Post by: bigrob on September 20, 2001, 02:40:43 AM
I might be stupid ( that is almost 100% the case) but anyway. how do i get my DVD to show on 4:3 format when i play them on my ps2. Choosing it in the menu of the DVD doen\'t seem to work....

I have exactly the same problem. I can only view my DVDs in widescreen on my 4:3 tv in my bedroom. I have tried changing the setting to 4:3 Panscan, but this doesn\'t seem to do anything.

Play the dvd. Then press stop. Do it then. Or you could do it on the configuration screen

Tried stopping the DVD & then changing it, still comes out widescreen though.

configuration screen of what, the ps2 or the dvd. Because in the dvd menu, even if the opion of 4:3 is there. IT DOESN\'T work. I am so happy i bought the ps2 to play games and not watch movies...because so far, it sucks at dvd playback

The DVD has to be in STOP mode, not  pause.  Adjust the aspect ratio in the DVD control panel, not the PS2 system config menu.  Also remember that if your DVD is a "flipper" with information on both sides of the disk, you have to physically turn it over in order to view the 4:3 version of the movie.  The label on the top side of the disk (as you put it in the PS2 tray) indicates which side you\'re going to see.

Just one question:  WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO DO THIS?  4:3 sucks; you\'re throwing away a significant part of the image when you view a widescreen program in that mode.

Most DVDs only contain the 16x9 view.  Which DVD are you trying to watch.  And 4:3 sucks ass anyways...

IF YOU HAVE A WIDESCREEN DVD, IT WILL ONLY PLAY IN WIDESCREEN MODE UNLESS IT CONTAINS BOTH WIDESCREEN AND REGULAR VISIONS.

Widescreen takes some getting used to, but in the end, I like it better and don\'t even notice the difference.

Also, What is it with people about the PS2s (lack of) ability to play DVDs... My experience with PS2 DVD playing has been nothing but good.

I understand that the PS2 won\'t play certain DVDs, but that\'s true of all players.

Watching a 2.35:1 movie cut down to 4:3 is for total losers.

Get freaking use to widescreen because when the world goes to 16:9 you will be use to it.  Heck, even 16:9 tvs have black bars.
