For Carey, who arrived at Westwood\'s Village Theatre in jeans and a black tank top adorned with an American flag, it was a form of therapy - not for her personal troubles, but for the heartache she shares with her fans in the wake of last week\'s terrorist attacks.
"My fans have gotten me through all my personal little issues, and I want to give them back, even if it\'s just for tonight, a few minutes of peace," she said as she made her way into the venue. "Definitely every American is grieving in their own way, so I\'m just happy to be here." In between interviews, Carey stopped to autograph copies of the film\'s soundtrack and pose for pictures with fans.
Looking beautiful and rested, the singer spoke about her problems in a "such-is-life" tone, saying she simply needed a break from a merciless schedule. "I was exhausted, I needed to rest," said Carey, who underwent psychiatric care for what her publicist termed a physical and emotional breakdown. "I tend to work myself to the ground like a superhero. And guess what? I\'m human, so you can\'t do that. But it really required me acknowledging that. There was nobody to tell me to stop working."
"Glitter", which opens nationwide this weekend, stars Carey as a singer named Billie who achieves pop stardom but struggles with the abandonment of her past, a shaky love affair with her producer and the pitfalls of success. Inside the theatre, Carey sat in the center section flanked by security guards and handlers. Fellow movie-goers, who had won tickets through Los Angeles radio station Power 106, regularly erupted into cheers, from the moment Carey\'s name appeared in the opening credits to her character\'s final performance at New York\'s Madison Square Garden. At one point, when Billie\'s boyfriend asks her, "Do you think because you swing your ass onstage and hit a couple high notes that makes you some kind of colossal success?," audience members answered with a resounding, "Yes!"
Carey said she hopes the mostly light-hearted "Glitter" will provide movie-goers an emotional escape during this time of turmoil. "But obviously nothing can overshadow the events that have gone on, and I need to stay focused on that," she said.
The singer will return to the stage for the first time since her hospitalization for the star-powered benefit show "America: A Tribute to Heroes" on Friday (September 21), joining such stars as Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow and Faith Hill. "It\'s so difficult because everybody\'s been affected by this tragedy in a different way," Carey, who will sing "Hero" at the telethon, said. "I\'m not a politician, but I would just say that my heart goes out to anybody that\'s been affected, all the victims and everybody in this country, because we\'re trying to come together as a nation and really be strong and it\'s hard, it\'s not an easy task."
Friday\'s commercial-free event, set to air simultaneously on several networks, will raise money for long-term relief efforts benefiting those directly affected by the attacks. "I hope [it] will create even more unity," Carey said. "The most important thing is to stay positive ... We can all do our part." The soundtrack to "Glitter" will debut on next week\'s Billboard 200 albums chart at #7 .

Say it ain\'t so, Mariah! Tell me that isn\'t you giving one of history\'s worst performances up on that screen, tell me it\'s some freaky clone or something! There just aren\'t enough bad words I can use to describe this movie. It\'s completely deplorable, and I am worse off physically and emotionally for having sat through it. Oh, does my girlfriend owe me...please, do yourself a favor and avoid this movie like the plague it is.

Well, while I wanted to go see O, my g/f dragged me to Glitter. And after what seemed like an eternity to say the least, I was bitter. Why, do you ask. A)Mariah Carey couldn\'t act her way through a second grade school play, B) The movie is basically all about her real life, if I wanted that kind of info I would have set my VCR for when there was an A&E biography on her and C)this script is as compelling and interesting as watching the dust grow on my computer screen. If you want to see how to not to make money on a movie well this one is right up your alley. I could go on and on about all the horrible things this movie has to offer, but instead Ill just sum it up by saying after I saw this movie, another one came to mind, 10 Things I Hate About You.

Glitter is possibly a "waste of time" movie.
To sum this movie up in a sentence, "No one can act, not even Mariah Carey." Contains Spoilers This movie is so predictable that any child aged 4 to 10 could write a better story than this one, I remember sitting in the theater and watching Mariah Carey in skimpy outfits and beautiful gowns saying to myself, "I know what is going to happen next, she is going to fall in love with this guy, he\'s going to cheat on her, she won\'t believe in her talent, and all of a sudden a guardian angel will tell her that she has great talent, and she lives to be a great singer, big deal."
The story is the least of the humiliation, it\'s the acting. It\'s like watching KISS: Kiss meets the Phantom in the Amusement Park\'s acting mixed with Spiceworld\'s story.
Every five minutes you\'re hearing the shrieking sounds of a High-C from Mariah Carey, by the time you leave the theater your ears are bleeding.
Mariah Carey had great talent in the past, but I think her movie and her music career went with her.....

Mariah Carey should clear some shelf space for her first Razzie for this vanity project gone awfully wrong. "Glitter" has got to be the most pathetic, inept, silly piece of cinematic trash to ever disgrace screens.

Wow! Glitter has to be the most enjoyable movie-going experience that I\'ve had in a long time. Of course, the fact that I had quite a few drinks before I watched this stinker made the ride more bearable.
First, I\'d like to say sorry to all those Mariah Carey fans out there. At least she\'ll have her recording career to fall back (maybe). Second, I have nothing personal against Mariah. I\'m sure she\'s a great person once you get to know her, but Glitter has got to be the most f**king ridiculous movie I\'ve ever seen.
Come on!!! Who at 20th Century Fox green-lighted this turd? This flick sets new standards for film incompetence. The acting (what little of it there is) falls to capture any genuine emotion, and the script offers us nothing in the way of believable characters or dialogue (not to mention the occasional plot absurdity - you\'ll know them when you see them) Director Vondie Curtis-Hall tries to give the movie some glossy production value, perhaps to take your mind off the fact that Mariah can\'t act, but he fails, allowing editor Jeff Freeman to go insane in his use of aerial shots of NY (including a shot of the WTC towers, which will probably be the only thing in this flick that will generate any honest reaction from the audience) and some bizarre editing in certain scenes that I suppose was done to give the movie some "style". Oops! That didn\'t work!
What else is there to say about this flick? I knew walking in that this was going to be a bad movie. That\'s why I got a couple of drinks before the movie to enhance my "Mariah experience", but this movie pulled the rug out from under me. It was actually worse than I thought it would be. I actually started feeling sorry for Mariah that she was in this! She\'s a talented singer, but for God\'s sake, can somebody please talk some sense into her when, and if, she decides to do another film!
So, what are you waiting for? Get some friends together, get sloshed, and catch this little "gem" while you still can. I\'m guessing it won\'t be around for long!

Yes, I did say it WAS utterly brilliant, but, wait a minute... MAYBE I WAS BEING SARCASTIC WHEN I SAID IT SUCKED...
Most members around here know how much i LOVED the Tomb Raider Movie, and I am PROUD to admit how titilating I found it.
-
Samwise: Loser.
Racer: Cool.
My opinions are not to be taken seriously as I have the mind of a 4 year old. :D

Actually it took me 10 secs to hit the search button, type in Tomb Raider and Racer\'s name. Then copy the URL of the second or so thread.
It was just because I remembered how Racer raved about the TR movie. If good memory makes you a loser then be it. ;)

Um yeah, ok then. Seems very plausible...

Let\'s just say that I have definitely learned to run the other way from Racer\'s taste in movies. That whole Tomb Rader fiasco will have me depressed for years. Oh what I could have done with that two hours of wasted life.

It wasnt that bad guys...

So does Mariah show those tig ole bitties or not?

People like Racer keep people like Mariah Carey in business, and keep albums like Live\'s "V" from selling over 200,000 in its first months.
Racer, I hate you.

Racer was watching Dice ;) They play this movie at least once a week on HBO and yes it is terrible.

I saw some of it and thought it was hilarious. Kind of like when I saw Battle Field Earth with some friends, instead of walking out like everyone else we just stayed and laughed at everyone they did. "Let\'s make them eat rats". "Look I\'m shooting a cow". "My movie career is over".
(yes, Glitter is one of the worst things ever. And I\'m not just talking about movies)

Actually I watched the WORST MOVIE EVAR yesterday. It was so horribly bad that I don\'t know how I got through 1½ hours of that crap. Probably because I was hungover.
It was called "The Hands of Death". Worst. Movie. Ever.
And it was very 80\'ies as well, just to top if off. Ugh. :crap:
