There is NO war...Gamers have already cast their vote, and they have given sony a land-slide victory...
What, with 15.000.000+ consoles sold, with about 99% of every single third partie in their back pocket begging to get a piece of the pie, sophsticated online plan, second-to-none in innovation and choice...
There is NO WAR...Playstation2 is the champ, and you should all jubilate this event.
Xbox vs? Gamecube?...No war either, it\'s laughable to suggest xbox will beat the sales of Gamecube, it\'s just not a smart thing to do.
So all in all...there is no "war"...just a celebration Sony will experience for the next 4 years:)
-
Your sortof right. It is not a "war". It is really just a competition to see who sells the most systems and games. Who will have the biggest audience? Gamecube? X-Box? PS2? No doubt PS2. They already are in a high lead. You were pretty close. Good job.
-
You\'re right, there is no actual war, but there is a competition. The PS2 has the best chance of success considering its user base, 3rd party support, and all that good stuff. However, that doesn\'t mean the other two consoles won\'t offer a "challenge" of sorts.
Of course, why are you relating a console\'s victory to its sales? It\'s the games that matter.
-
As we all know, Nostradamus predicted the year of YNOS which spells sony backwards, :nut:
-
I would prefer decade...2000-2010 belongs to Sony...it\'s all but a confirmed fact.
-
Well, technically speaking, even such a huge head start doesn\'t neccessarily confirm that a system will win. After all, the Genesis had a some 15,000,000 system lead on the SNES when the SNES was first released as well. This has to do with a lot fo factors, though I feel that this is the most notable: PS2 has virtually no competition right now, so of course it is selling well; when the competition does arrive those sales will likely slow.
Not that this doesn\'t mean PS2 can\'t be the most successful--on the contrary, it doesn\'t mean anything of the sort. PS2 will have an easier time being successful than any other current console, not only because of this head start in terms of systems sold but also in terms of it\'s head start in the games area. Just think; Sony could start a "Greatest Hits" type thing with marked down titles that would in turn increase console sales a whole year or so before Nintendo or Microsoft (theoretically). Plus they simply have a large library of games established when both other consoles have libraries of zero. They will still retain this head start in terms of the number of released games until the console \'war\' is over.
Not that PS2 will rule all; it\'s feasible that NGC or Xbox would even come close in sales. At this point it\'s very hard to judge, based off of past events. We\'ll just have to check out the situation in about a year (it\'ll be here before we all know it, trustith me) and see what pace everything is on then--at that point we will be able to make far more accurate predictions. Now we\'re predicting the futures of consoles that haven\'t even been released, a very hard thing to do.
-
as far as im concerned, Sony had this \'war\' won after PSX became so successful...with the PSX going so mainstream, like no other before, Sony became associated with mainstream and casualgaming...PS2 was a guaranteed success...
its still not 100% certain that PS2 will win, but im wagering it will

Kewl, huh?

dr. tool speaks again!

Its quite simple, anyone who thinks the GC or the XBOX will shrivel and die after a year or two are idiots. They may not beat PS2 in sheer sale\'s numbers but they WILL be succesful. This is a kick-ass time for us gamers because we got 3 huge companies pulling out all the **** to will us over.
I love being a consol whore and having no loyalties in this.
ps. Nice sig Megiddo.

Don\'t just consider sales. Sales can be affected by price. The actual capabilities of, and games for, the consoles are more important.
If this helps, here\'s a list of every "generation" of console that I know of:
4-bit generation: Atari 2600 etc.
8-bit generation: Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo Game Boy (portable) etc.
16-bit generation: Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis
64-bit generation (introduction of disc-based systems and color portables): Sony PlayStation (disc-based), Nintendo 64 [introduction of 8-bit Game Boy Color]
Early 128-bit generation: Sega Dreamcast (disc-based)
Middle 128-bit generation: Sony PlayStation 2 (disc-based)
Late 128-bit generation: Microsoft X-Box, Nintendo Gamecube (all disc-based) [introduction of 32-bit Game Boy Advance] [PlayStation 3 to come later]
-
There is no such thing as a 4-bit console.
-
Sega Saturn? What?
-Eik
-
Why doesn\'t anyone seem to know that the Atari systems were 4-bit? Don\'t you think the NES could do a lot better than any Atari?
Oops. Did I type Sega Saturn? I meant Sega Genesis.

I figured it out first, then M4, now you. :p

The Ataris were all 8-bit.

Okay, back to the topic. Remember that a "losing" console still has sales, just not the most sales. I know this is a PS2 site and that anything I say supporting the GC would be interpreted as biased, but I think that GC will at some point within the next 6 months (just guessing) be considered "better" than PS2, despite not having as much sales as the X-Box (at that point PS2 will probably be dead).

Dominating the OS Market has given Microsoft a bad reputation? wtf

That\'s exactly the same method PS2 followed to become incredibly successful. Why would it all of a sudden make MS fail?

What I should have said is that there\'s no harm in being a late adopter (of GC or XBox). The 6 months was just a wild guess.
