Title: PK, CK, BSOD, FSOD, Oh no... Will Square be prepared for FFonline?
Post by: SonyFan on September 25, 2001, 08:34:47 PM
Well since the PSO servers are down right now in preperation for v.2 comming out soon, I thought I\'d take the time to post this lil bit of info I gathered, and I\'m wondering if it will change your mind about paying to play FFOnline.

Almost since it\'s release PSO has been plauged jackasses who use cheat devices (GS, Xploder, CodeBreaker) to wreak havok on the rest of the community. People are scared to go into games anymore because of the fear that they\'re character will get killed and robbed, Frozen to the point of reset,.. or worse.. that the prick will use the GameShark to corrupt your character file and essencially trash all those long hours lvling up and collecting rares.

The latest wave of maintinece is keep these people OFF of v.2 where the customers are actually paying. So far, word from Barubary and CMX at the GSCCC is that there aren\'t many recourses left for them to take short of a cheat method that bans innocent players along with the cheaters. (Hoping that the collateral damage is too much for ST, and they\'ll back down) The bad news is, now that the PS2 is gaining more online steam... they\'re preparing to hack FFonline and provide the same types of codes to the general public.

Would you be willing to pay upwards of 5 bux a month so that you can just walk around aimlessly afraid to join games outta fear of being screwed outta yer character and inventory in almost every way imaginable, so some some 13 year old wanna-be hacker can have a few laughs at your expence?

I wonder if Square is aware of this, and what steps are they taking to prevent it? Does knowing that this kind of behavior WILL go on in FFOnline change your mind about purchasing the game at all?

Sounds like a little Diablo Deja Vu to me.  Diablo 2 does a great job of preventing hacking by storing your character on a server instead of locally on your machine.  On the upside it prevents hacking, but on the down side there is no 1-player mode, so you\'re at the mercy of the network.

I think more then lickly Square will go through greate leangths to stop cheating. I do not know if thier going to go to the extremetise of Diablo 2 and keep characters server side. But I have faith. It maybe be blind faith. But it is faith none the less.
