PS2 Ships 17 Million Units Worldwide

And then some, according to the latest figures -- this console is on a worldwide rampage.

According to a report issued today by Bloomberg Japan, Sony has shipped 17,910,000 units of PlayStation 2 hardware as of the end of August.

That compares quite favorably to the figure of 10,610,000 units registered at the end of March -- 7,300,000 units were shipped in the five months of late spring and summer. The regional breakdown of this figure is as follows: 6,540,000 units in Japan, 7,230,000 units in North America, and 4,140,000 in Europe.

Sony appears primed to kick that figure up even higher in the winter months to come, with the recent announcement of major price drops in Europe, and a huge arsenal of AAA games primed for the holiday season. We\'ll keep you posted as these numbers continue to rise.

PS2 will be at 20million world-wide when the Xbox arrives, and it will have around 8million in the US alone...

At this rate...sony will have around 29million systems sold in JUST 2 YEARS!!!:eek:

As Megiddo said, PS2 will be at 20million world-wide when the Xbox and NGC arrives meaning a huge disadvantage to them. If Nintendo and Microsoft want to catch Sony in the race they will have to sell like 25 M units in one year. I think that’s impossible

The fact that Sony is doing so well obviously upsets him and forced him to show his colors

He has been warnbed about the name calling

I have to admit I thought he was above that, but we all fly off the handle occasionally. I\'m pretty sure he regrets posting that garbage in this thread

I mean, this IS a PS2 forum remember.. people here will obviously be happy about the news of Sony\'s amazing lead in the console war.

Hell, I almost half believe that someone else used your puter to post that.

(BTW: Altered dosen\'t really hate Sony. I talk to him on PSO occassionally.. he\'s gotta huge collection of Sony consoles and games hidden under his bed that I wasn\'t supposed to tell you about. :p oops! )
