At the 640x480 the Xbox is likely to remain in, a faster CPU could have significant performance differences. A 1 GHz P3 offers 15% higher framerates than a 733MHz P3 in Q3A.
If the CPU is a Celeron CPU, it will be the most significant flagrant technical flaw in the Xbox design. As we\'ve shown at FiringSquad, AMD\'s Duron completely destroys the Celeron. If the CPU is a Pentium III, then the Xbox will be in better shape even though 1 GHz would have provided a faster system. We\'ll have to wait until November for the final answer.""

No more changes will be made, Xbox production started a week ago.
MS could be keeping low key about it, but its highly unlikely. The Xbox is still a very capable machine, I wouldnt\' worry about it.

Some fanboy started this UP. It has been a p3 since day one. That has not changed the only thing that has changed is the drop in speed from 250-233. And the speed could have always been 233 ms just chose to wait until the very end to tell the fans. That is a normal corporation move.
it is 2 months away from launch if you think the specs are not final yet then your crazy. That would be stupid. Ms is a big corporation and they are not stupid. I mean these companys no what they are going to do long before they tell us. Bye the time they let the public no it is months after everything is done. IF THEY where using a celeron they would have said it when they finally told fans about the gpu speed. Because the p3 only handles small operation which is barely nothin. The gpu is where the xbox gets it\'s power.
So if the it was a celeron they would have said it a long time ago because it would have made no sense to hide this because the cpu basicly does nothing in the xbox.

There is one other major change. When they announced the X-box, they said it would run a 1Ghz P3, then later dropped it to 733 Mhz

No they didn\'t... It started off as 600-somethin\' mhz, and was raised to 733mhz. Then a couple of months later, rumours started flying around that the processor would be raised to 1ghz(Some have said that MS started that rumour... Why would they? :confused: ).
The 2 GPU drops, and the CPU increase were the only changes made to the Xbox hardware... Oh! And that Hyper Transport Technology was put in too, I guess we could kinda sorta consider that as a major change.

The Power of the X-Box comes from every piece of hardware=The P3,The NV2a,the MCPX,the whole architecture ! The P3 has to do calculations about phisics,AI,collision-system,etc and the fact that the large majority of floating point work performed by the Xbox will be done by the NV2A graphics processing unit doesn\'t mean the P3 basically does nothing in the X-Box ! The P3 is a very powerful CPU considering the Tasks it has to do...

I know that I am just saying it is nothing to hide because the bulk of the xbox power comes from the gpu.

There\'s some truth to what all of you are saying.. but.
You cannot stick a GeForce 3 in a PentiumII-266 and expect great results. It won\'t happen. The card is still dependant on the CPU,. I\'m not comparing a P2-266 to the X-box, but you get the idea. The card doesn\'t do everything.

as long as they don\'t put a Pentium 233 MMX into the XBOX, it might turn out a couple million polygons :D hmmmm, i wonder what the real performance will be like... pushing polygons that is.

Expect 2nd gen games to be in the mid 20\'s to 30\'s. Mike Abrash says Xbox should be able to push 40-50 with a considerable amount of effects... And 1st gen games like Azurik are already doing 18mpps and more.

That is a nice number, i think DOA for the XBox looks sweet, i think the character and levels have a very realistic look to them..

Yes...I read X-Box has enough bandwidth to handle 50+ mpps in Game...and the NV2a has enough power to catch these numbers(it all depends on the effects tuned on...with 1 infinite light, 2 textures=70 Mpolys/s...then the more you add effects...the more these numbers decrease...)

I am not biased against DOA3, I am quite excited about it. But I certainly don\' see the characters as realistic looking. They seem to have a less gritty feel than some other games. More of a Psuedo anime style really. But very nice looking.
btw... one thing that i think most people have overlooked about Xbox is the fact that it isn\'t RISC. Isn\'t this going to to eat more bandwidth relatively speaking.
And I have a question about PS2. Is it able to texture in Jpeg format, if not I remember someone talking about it not having to use bmp for textures. Another bandwidth saver if so.
Just some thoughts... I really think the capabilities between the three systems will be fairly close. At least to the end that I will greatly enjoy all of them.

Somehow I seriously doubt that. Azurik does not look like it\'s throwing around that many polygons. If it is, then the dev team is lacking.

It is, datamage. Take a look at the official site. I know it doesn\'t really look like it at first glance, but if you look at some of the bigger, more detailed pictures, you can see all of that geometry. Lots of work went into the monsters, and the main character.

Well I took a gander over @ their main site, but I wasn\'t able to find a quote stating that. I believe that you saw that, I just don\'t believe it\'s true. Either there\'s some polygons hidden somewhere, or my expectations of what 18mpps should look like is off. I am taking the character models, draw distance, etc, into consideration, I just don\'t believe it. Just like I don\'t believe Jak and Dakster is pushing 12-15, or whatever the number was. I think the developers stretch the truth a bit.
-- Perhaps the engine is capable of drawing that many polygons, I just don\'t think the game is actually pushing that much. Oh well, polygons nowadays don\'t mean much anyhow.
