Title: Pikmin is to the NGC as Pokemon was to the N64/GBC?

This (http://nintendo.cloudchaser.com/columns/index.php?view=the_galloping_gaijin&title=japan_report_022) article from Cloudchaser Nintendo talks about how the Japanese are excited for Pikmin to come out.  It sounds like Pikmin will be the Japanese gamer\'s next craze.

Advertising started last week in Japan, for a game that Nintendo most likely see as their next big franchise and it\'s not hard to see why. In Japan, there is a word that encompasses all that is sweet, cute and generally adorable - "kawaii". If Japanese people see something, and utter this word - you know you\'re on the right track, and the response I\'ve encountered to these characters (Pikmin) so far, goes right off the "kawaii" scale. Already this week, I have arrived home to find my fridge door covered in handmade Pikmin magnets, made by my Japanese girlfriend, who, yes - thinks they\'re "kawaii". Grown men at the office have been chatting about the advertisement, how funny it looks, and how they\'ll be buying it - but for their children, of course.

pokemon could not save N64 from PSX.

Pikimin success only depends on if GC sells any consoles. A sure-classic system-seller can only be that if the system has a base before it.

Look at Shenmue. By all means, anyone who has finished the game puts it in their top ten, easily. But the base of DC wasn\'t big enough for people to recommend it to fellow DC owners (because there werent many)

It doesn\'t look good to me, but of course, I am an american, and kawaii = gay in my book. :)

lets see Pikmin pick up a TV series, several movies, and merchandising up the yin tang.  Pikmin will not take off like pokemon did...but hey...what do i know :)

still looks kinda fun though   :)
