Square ceases its film operations (http://www.thegia.com/news/0110/n02d.html)
Financial losses ensure the end of Square Pictures.
Due to Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within\'s disappointing performance in both the American and Japanese markets, Square announced today that they\'re leaving the film business. Though cost-saving measures such as reusing the character of Aki in different genres were rumored, it now seems that these are not to be. As a result of the losses, Square will also likely not post profits this financial quarter.
I guess it could be taken as good news, but I was hoping they\'d come back and make a "true" Final Fantasy film. Oh well.

Has a flashback of sitting through FF:TPSW ..
Thank God for small miracles..No more Square movies.
Yes, I realize that was maybe abit harsh , but I really, REALLY hated that movie.

Expected. If the movie that cost 150 million to make, and only grabbed, what, 30 million, something has to be changed. Now, while we probably won\'t see another FF movie in the near, near future. Square studios might become a competitor to Industrial Light and Magic and other special effects companies. In this case, the studio will be put in good use (not to mention, all the CGI work on the Square games will get a boost).

I am one of 5 human beings on this planet who liked FF:TSW, but really Simchoy summed it up, cost 150 mil to make, raked in 30 mil. Maybe with great DVD sales across the board it could approach 100...but I pulled that estimate out of my ass...oh well.

I liked the movie too, but I think too many people thought it was going to be an action sci-fi in the mould of aliens etc, not the whole spiritial Gaia theme. It\'s kinda sad that they won\'t be making anymore movies, but hopefully we\'ll see more CGI movies with the same kind of visual awesomeness as FF: TSW
