everytime i try to play anything in it, madden, gran turismo, a dvd movie, it always says "disc read error"
i tried emailing sony but they just tell me to run diagnostics or get all the dust out of it.
i did both to no avail.
so what should i do next?
do i need to just buy a new one?
help a brotha out here!?
-
This is sad to hear... :(
I would send it to SONY. Write a letter and let them know that you are very disapointed about the errors, may be they fix it for less then...

you know its funny how things work out for me.
the game i was looking forward to the most was silent hill 2.
i wait and wait and wait.
then on the DAY SH2 comes out my ps2 breaks.
man i hate my life so much.

dont know if this is the same in usa but in england but ring sony up and they come pick ur old one up, they give u a new one ( well someone else that has been fixed)..... but i think its better to buy a new one....... then swap it with your old one and take it back and get ur money back.... cos i went through 7 ps1 till they gave me one that worked properly.
and my ps2 recently broke...and youve guessed it they picked mine up....after 5 mins of playing the new one it blew up:crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying:

1-800-345-SONY, ask for a new one if you\'re still under warranty.
If you\'re not still under warranty then do the Wal-Mart switcheroo.
You could pay to have your PS2 repaired, but the DVD player is not worth $hit. I had mine sent in twice and it\'s beginning to mess up again.

so i should go buy a new one, then put my old broken one in the box and return it?
not a bad idea at all.

Luke, did you buy your PS2 at launch or soon after?
-
i got mine like mid november, so just after launch.

Like others have said, if it\'s still under warranty, send it into Sony and get it fixed for free. If it\'s not, take it to Walmart (or a store like Walmart) and say you got it as a present and it doesn\'t work. Ask if you can get it replaced. Most stores replace it without question if you say that.
