Bad luck there..
What was the modelnumber on the first one?
Whats the modelnumber on the new one??
(Example: SCPH-30001)

I suggest you REQUEST a NEW model from the store or something..
(At least its free! :D )

In Sweden:

Take it back to the store.
They send it to Egmont. Egmont sends you a new console.

But now they got some new system..
Now you must call them.. Register your console (like I have) and get a number.
Then go to the store. Write down the problem you got, name and address ect.. And the registration number..

And then they send it to Egmont. Its suppose to be alot faster now.. Like 1-2weeks.

I dont know.. I reckon they build them in Afghanistan ;)

No really.. This isnt suppose to happen to the new systems..
Like they said, the old launch consoles were build really fast and the quality were poor on some of them..

It is amazing that people still hold Sony products in such high quality regards, frankly, they are starting to get worse and worse.

I didn\'t have to get my second PSX tile 2 years after, it hasnt been a year for most of you and you guys have had to get yuors replaced.

I had 3 PSXs, and treat all of my stuff like gold.

My Ps2 is still working perfectly, except for the audio unsynchs itself on DVD movies all the time about an hour into it, all I gotta do is pause/unpause it and it works fine.

Panasonic!

No, my PS2 doesn\'t have that problem.  It is probably just the launch PS2s that have that problem.

Bad hardware happens to everybody. I Have a Playstation that doesnt like FMV, but its never failed to load a game properly, so I accept the(more often than I care for) choppy FMV. The first Genesis I bought had the right sound channel die in 3 days, I havent had a problem with the Genesis I\'ve had since. The first DC I got wouldn\'t play anything except music cd\'s. The one I have now works fine. I got lucky with the PS2, I haven\'t had a single problem with it(knock on wood). The GC launch probably had its fair share of defects, as will the Xbox. It\'s just the luck of the draw. Sometimes you just get a defective product.

I didn\'t buy mine on launch, though. Oldies will remember me as quite an antagonist :)

I\'ve had my PSX for 4 and a half years... No probs... I even spilled milk all over it and to use a blowdryer. Still worked like a charm after it had dried.

No problems with my PS2 yet either.

Kopking, maybe there\'s something wrong with your power outlets or the electrical system where you live, since this seems to happen a lot...
I\'ve never heard about PSX\'s, nor PS2s for that matter, braking from any of my friends and I have a lot of friends who either own a PS2 or a PSX.

well the one i got now works fine!!!! touch wood....woooo hooooooo got it friday been playing it since.

nothing wrong with the power output, my old ps1 the control ports become dodgy...would not sense a controlleeer, till you pulled it just the right amout!!!!!!

but the ones they sent me went like this

1) my original one- control ports faulty
2)didnt work
3) different (older) model
4)worked for 3 days then wouldnt work
5)worked fine till my mate kicked my bag which had the ps1 in it
6) you guessed it ...never worked
7) yeah!!!!!! one that finally worked

im mean sony shoud test them a bit more before they put them out..i think they just fix the reported problem and dont worry about anything else!!!!!! and may broke something else, i just wish they checked them abit more.....so u only got2 get one replacement one not keep getting faulty replacements

there were quite a few teething problems with the PS2 on launch..... but I know for a fact that the percentage of faulty PS2s now is really low!

Also when my mates PS2 needed replacing (he bought one of the first units) he got a brand new replacement??

I got my ps2 from HMV and only found out it was broke because it wouldn\'t play a borrowed game, also it seems that the one I got originally was allready a return because it was missing stuff like the CD and registration card.

I only realised when I opened the new box to find everything sealed. HMV have a pretty good 60 day no questions asked return policy though.
