HOLY Sh!te this looks awesome. Any doubts about RL anymore should be put aside after this video.
You can download it to at:

While you\'re downloading it...
"Easily, the most memorable moment of my Gamer’s Summit Rogue Leader experience is the sight of Imperial Walkers wading in shallow water to attack Rebel troops in the Vengeance at Kothis mission. Seeing the hulking AT-ATs making their way towards the shore while surrounded by beautifully reflective and wavy water (with a downed Star Destroyer in the background) is truly a sight to behold. I wish I had a screen shot to show people, as this really must be seen by all gamers. Hopefully one will surface online soon."

This is one of the best mental pictures ever right now.

RL and HALO are the best looking games around, IMO. ^_^;

It\'s funny.. after a long debate between two members at PS2web forums about Halo\'s graphics vs. Planetside.. I just don\'t find Halo that impressing anymore. Maybe it\'s just me though...
Phil
Note to Nu: seeing that you were a former member at PS2web, you might remember the debate I am talking of..

seven: You said you were a developer in the other thread..
Which company?
-
I work for COMIT Financial Systems, a company in Switzerland that applies IT to the finance sector (our customes are banks i.e. UBS, Credit Suisse and others).
I program C, (soon C++), Java and a bit of assembler and visual basic. Not anything related to gaming yet, but I am hoping to gain some valuable experience in a few years when I stop by in the US or perhaps Germany or the UK.
greetz,
Phil

If that is true, like you say..
Its pretty weird..
GC games looks worse on TV than on a picture??
With PS2 its the other way around..
Hmm.. :nut: :nut: :facelick:

fastson,
No the game looks good graphically, it just doesn\'t deliver the sense of \'flight.\' Once you see it in motion in your face, you\'ll understand. The ships look stiff. I hope that isn\'t the case when the game is released.

datamage: Oh, ok.. Thanks :D

Wow, the video looks great ! It\'s defenitly the best looking GC game by far.:D

So you guys are trying to tell me a 4 mb 1.6 minute .mov file looks better on the computer than a TV. Some of you need to get off crack:laughing:

Dont remember, friend. And I haven\'t been following Planetside. Why isn\'t HALO that impressing anymore? Just wanna know...

I don\'t know, maybe it\'s because I really don\'t like Star Wars (the movie) that much or maybe it\'s because nicely drawn ships flying against a black space background doesn\'t scream graphical power to me or maybe because the last version was absolute ass or maybe because it just doesn\'t look that much better than Freespace 2 for the PC, but I think Luigis\' Mansion and Wave Race look much better than RL.
I look at it this way. Imagine the cars from GT3 flying in space shooting lasers admist partical effects. PS2 can do this game as far as I\'m concerned, if not exactly close. Those ships don\'t look any better than the cars in GT3.
(I\'ll probably get flamed huge for this post, but I\'m used to it by now)

I\'m sleepy, I\'ll let everybody else slam this and put in my 2 cents in the morning.

Maybe in a year or two this will be true. Right now the bump mapping in this game is better than any I\'ve seen so far this generation. Best looking game I\'ve seen? Maybe, but DOA3 is looking better and better every day.

Haul your @$$ to a Toys \'R Us and watch RL there. Not like it matters, your mind is made up.

Yes I want highly animated motions that resemble a person flying. ;) You\'ll see what I mean, if it remains the same.

If you saw a recent build then the chances are it will. Rogue Leader is in its production stages now.

I still think it can be acceptably "faked" on PS2. Cut a few corners, make a few sacrifices and it could be done with little or no noticable difference. There isn\'t anything startling about it. And I agree it looks like you are flying on rails, but maybe it\'s fixed now, I don\'t know.
There just doesn\'t seem to be high detail--the draw distance needs serious work (death star) and I\'m just not that impressed.

ahw :( I was hoping that you would at least remember the good debate we had about Microsoft and their pollicies (also, my doubts about X-Box etc). Perhaps because I was posting under my real name \'Phil\' overthere...
about the Planetside vs Halo thing: firstly, there\'s this screen that I remember very well of Halo, seing this cliff which looked impressive. But if you looked at it closely, you saw that the texturing was terrible. Instead of nicely moving from grass-texture into the cliff-texture, it was just cut off and didn\'t look very nice at all. Further, the trees, looked kind of stiff with not very nice textures. Pretty unrealistic. Cars and Humans looked pretty well, although faces and such are more or less sealed, which didn\'t allow to compare it to Planetside. And I guess the big frame-rate issue that has plugged this game since E3. From what was (wth?) supposed to be 180 fps on X-Box hardware, came down to not even constant 30 fps, which I thought was laughable. As for the graphics part: If you want, I will back this up with screens etc (although I would have to look for them first) - but I couldn\'t really care less if Planetside looks better or not (and Planetside is made for online play.. go figure). As for now, Halo doesn\'t make me jump in the graphics devision. Might change my mind though upon further movies etc. (I find Outcast 2 to me more impressive, at this point).

I don\'t think you are in any position to speculate about what is possible and what not and when on PS2.

I know who you are, man. I just dont remember that discussion. To be honest I never really payed attention to those kind of threads.

Y\'mean this one (http://halo.bungie.org/screenshots/msxbox.031301/h7.jpg)? Lil\' stuff like that has been polished in the more recent builds of HALO. Seems like just about everything has been bumpmapped in the enviroment, and when light is cast upon them, it looks incredibly realistic. But anyways, you\'ll see the improvements when HALO launches Nov. 15th. :)

I dont know if anything like this had been added in(Moving grass-texture into cliff-texture), I wasn\'t looking for anything like that. But the grass textures are much better looking than when the game was shown at Gamestock.
Further, the trees, looked kind of stiff with not very nice textures. Pretty unrealistic.
Well, there\'re tons of \'em on most levels. The snow level really has a forest, and larger open plains too.
Cars and Humans looked pretty well, although faces and such are more or less sealed, which didn\'t allow to compare it to Planetside.
Er, sealed?

Locked at 30fps. :)

Neh?? You\'re getting a tad mixed up. DOA2:HC, when ported directly to the Xbox hardware, ran at 180fps. Not HALO...
As for the graphics part: If you want, I will back this up with screens etc
Thats fine, I\'ve looked at a ton of Planetside and HALO screensots. While Planetside is a good lookin\' game, comparable to HALO, I still think HALO looks better for several reasons. One being the art style.
As for now, Halo doesn\'t make me jump in the graphics devision. Might change my mind though upon further movies etc.
I\'m betting on it. ;)
(I find Outcast 2 to me more impressive, at this point).
Erm...
...
Forget it.

Yep, you got the screen correct - that was the one. Note the grass texture and then the cliff. looks pretty cut-off. Okay, if it has been fixed, I\'ll take that back. :)
Well, there\'re tons of \'em on most levels. The snow level really has a forest, and larger open plains too.
Brings me back to the above screenshots. Looks kind of wierd and empty Trees or bushes or what ever it is, looks funny. Again, if this has been fixed, I\'ll take this back aswell.

Sounds good. Hopefully I\'ll get to see some screens aswell. Seems to me I am not aware of the recent fixes in the game.
Er, sealed?
Well, since it was a Planetside vs. Halo comparasment, they were comparing the overall look of the humans and soldiers in the game. The arguement was that Planetside is much more detailed, which I believe aswell. One of these arguements were the detailed faces in Planetside. In Halo you don\'t see any of these. Pretty pointless anyway in debate, so forget about it.
Locked at 30fps.
I\'ll believe it, when I see it.
Erm...
...
Forget it.
Well, I am comparing screen by screen. I just like the overall look of Outcast 2 better, although I haven\'t seen that much. The environments look much more detailed - Halo just looks a bit plain and empty. Maybe I\'ve been looking at the wrong screens. (This isn\'t a PS2 vs. X-Box comparasment btw)
-
about the 180 fps thing: nope, I am not getting mixed up with DOA2 - it\'s Halo for sure. It\'s what various (biased) pc magazins have published here in Europe (don\'t recall which one, but it probably wouldn\'t say much anyway) - and also several X-Box fanboys pointing this out during a few debates. Pretty pathetic, so lets forget about it. Fact is, it\'s around 30, as you say.

I\'m sure the Battle on Bespin has a huge black background, also that mental summary I posted, Oh yeah, those all of black backgrounds. Just because you don\'t have ground doesn\'t mean it can\'t be done.
