GameSpot has learned new details on Final Fantasy XI for the PlayStation 2. The game will take place in the world of Vana Dir. In this world, different races live in a place where sword, sorcery, and technology coexist. Details regarding the game\'s story are sketchy at this point, but it is known that the game involves battling against a resurrected evil existence and searching for crystals.
No specific gameplay details have been disclosed yet. However, in Hironobu Sakaguchi\'s vision the game\'s story will be more involved than in previous online RPGs. Sakaguchi hopes that the world of Final Fantasy XI will have a general history and the game\'s plot will sweep through the entire gameworld. Stay tuned to GameSpot for further coverage of Final Fantasy XI.

I have no doubt in my mind if square can do it. I am more worried about people Buying the game. Most people don\'t want to pay to play. Even though thats not really what thier doing. They are paying for the PlayOnline service which is going to use several games. I was sold on this game along time ago. Im worried about selling it to everyone elts.

Ever heard of Everquest Caspian? That game is the single highest selling online game ever, something like 20 million users and growning. I think the people who would pay to play are there.

Your talking PC friend. I am talking Playstation2. The difference is so astounding I couldn\'t begine to explain it. Im positive that the PC gamers of Everquest would Love Final Fantasy XI, however how many of them own a PS2? PC gamers usually don\'t get into consoul games. And I use "usually" in the broadest sence of the word.

I own Everquest and it kicks ass, but it\'s not the single highest selling online game ever, Half-Life is. And not my a little, more than twice.

Okay then how about Phantasy Star Online for the late Dreamcast? That game grew popularity worldwide. I think the issue of whether or not FFXI will have a following is not even an issue. Tons of online fans+tons of Final Fantasy fans=huge amounts of backing.

Phantasy StarOnline is an entirely different thing. For one you don\'t have to spend an extra 100 odd dollers to play it. For Final Fantasy XI you must have the harddrive and Internet Adapter. And Phantasy star may have been popular but it still didn\'t sell more then a million copies. We agree thier though. I was more to the piont where you mentioned Everquest 20 million users. I would be more then exstatic if every PS2 owner bought the HD and Internet adapter to play Final Fantasy. Then I could alway kill someone new. lol
