I have been holding off getting a GBA ever since I heard the rumor of a better-screen version coming out. Is there any new info on this, or is it still just a rumor?

It\'s still just a rumour.
I said it before and I\'ll say it again-the issues regarding GBA non back-lit screen is ridiculous. All you need is one frickin\' lamp light and you\'re fine. My only problem with the GBA is that it\'s games suck \'cept for COTM and Advance Wars. Hold out until later next yeat before you buy it.

Ok. I\'ll wait longer to buy a GBA. Thanks Jumpman.

...And F-Zero, and Tony Hawk 2. ;]
The backlit GBA hasn\'t been hinted at since the revelation that the GCN-GBA cord would block the port used for light peripherals...

Don\'t forget Golden Sun.

Yes, don\'t buy a Game Boy Advance until next year. I own one with Castlevania: Circle of the Moon and love the game, but find myself waiting for Golden Sun. I\'ll be buying that and Advance Wars this Christmas. Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn\'t have the same quality rules on GBA as it does on its home consoles. Oh, and about lighting, although it is a little dark, all you need is light. It even has a nice glistening colors effect when you get really good light. No need for a back-light (I\'d never use it anyways).

Nintendo will never release an "updated" version of a brand new system. The NES 2 and SNES 2 redesigns were only released near or upon the retirement of the original systems. And the lighting issue really is not an issue with the GBA. I play mine an average of 2 hours a day (long and multiple daily subway commutes) and do not have any problems with it.
Currently own Tony Hawk 2 (awesome), Castlevania (a must-have), Advance Wars (a must-have), and F Zero X (great.)
I will be getting Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo Revival tomorrow (finally) and Golden Sun in another 2 weeks or so. I think 6 games for the holiday season is a very solid reason to get a new system; console, handheld, or otherwise.
EDIT: On second thought, Dragon Warrior 3 and both Zelda Oracle games are must-have titles as well...
