Im in a weird perdicament. See I have this mildly defective ps2 in which it only gives me problems with one certain dvd. It gives the blank, cant read disk message and skips at the end of the video. I have bought a very nice dvd cleaner at which I ran it through my ps2 about 10 times, no prevail. At first yea, I thought it was the dvd but later found out it wasnt. I GET REAL PISSED, and want to get do the ol\' scam Wal-Mart thing but they seem to be **** lickers to. So I was going to sell my ps2 in the green sheet to someone for about 250 with a game I dont want and an extra pos dual impact controller. Well, I check out some threads about people getting screwed by Sony and almost everyones ps2 is faulty. Now I look at my ps2 as worthy, thinking if I sell this one and buy a brand new one, The one I buy might be even more f*cked then the one I have. So I dunno, Im stuck. Its either I keep the one I have and deal with the f*cked up dvd or whatevers wrong with it. Or take my risks buying a brand new one. Hmmmmmmmmm. What to do, what to do?
:boom: :burn:   :crap:  :( :rpissed: :sconf: :sconf: :vader:

not everybodies PS2 is messed up. Most run perfect
If its only 1 DVD that doesn\'t play then I find it hard to believe its the PS2.
Find a dozen DVD\'s and games that don\'t play then start worrying about your PS2
I\'d buy a new one at Walmart and take the old one back in the box for a refund before I sold somethign bogus to someone else
thats just bad Karma
-
I would, but dont they check serial numbers? what the hell would I say?
The playstation isnt 100% bogus, its just 99% It just really pissed me off cause I was waiting for this certain dvd for a long ass time, and then once I got it, it didnt work. Took it back, got another one. Didnt work. WTF!? So I\'m stuck in this position.

I have the 1st Generation PS2 and it didn\'t give me any problems. Today I just played it 9 hr straight and it load like a charm. If I was you just buy another one. ;)

yup thats the name of my PS2 little Little Jules and so far i have only had a few complaints about it.
a few in game crashes 7 or 8 i think
and a couple of DVD that act kind of funny
Rules of engadment jumped all over the place but then again it was a highly dirty disk, it was covered with greasy finger prints. (thats the last time i rent a DVD from Global entertanment)
-
Hey 00seven, wasn\'t it your little Jules that once suffered an
accidental power surge ? (so you told, if I remember correctly ..)
Mine is a European launchday PS2. It works fine.

well we though it was hit during a thunder storm (on the 3rd of July 2001 which is Miss MoneyPennys birthday) but lucky for us Miss Moneypenny unplugged it from the mains before that happened :D.
-
no probs with mine either
-
OK, still doesnt answer my question.

Walmart does check serial numbers or I should say, I took a DVD player back and they did check the serial number. Doesn\'t mean they do it every time though.
Have you tried the DVD in question in another machine? Could be from a bad lot...
-
Well, since I ran a dvd/cd cleaner through mine, I had no more problems. Boy was I happy, I didn\'t want to send it to Boston for 119 bucks.
-
OK so, Two questions and I\'ll drop the subject... Shall I go buy a brand new PlayStation? What would the chances that it would turn out faulty?
and yes, I have tried the dvd on another system and it worked perfect*.
-
Buy a new one. There are at least a couple outlets that offer extended warantees if you are that worried about it. Best Buy and EB are two if I\'m not mistaken. It\'s anybodys guess on your odds of getting another bum unit but I think you\'re blowing the faulty PS2 thing way out of proportion.
A few tips:
Don\'t buy a major electronic appliance at WalMart
Do try the return scam at WalMart, if it doesn\'t work just play dumb. A long line or a young clerk at the return counter is your best bet. It is more likely to be jammed near the end of the month.
or
Sell the old one privately. Just be honest about it not playing the one DVD (which still seems a odd problem to me)

That are my plans as of right now. I have no other alternatives, Wal-mart is a bunch of ****-suckers. Oh well.

Have you talked to Sony yet? I just read a few remarks by someone wanting to avoid buying the Sony remote in order to get the updated drivers to fix a DVD playback problem that was fixed on later models. Sounds like it may be the cure for yours. You should look into it.
-
Well. how much does it cost? I should be getting a job at bestbuy coming here quickly so I will have a good discount for such items.
Anyway, Since my first dvd skipped, now its like a desease, spreading from dvd to dvd and its really pissing me off cause now I have to clean the lens before the movie and during. So anything that could possibly work would help. I already have my ps2 in the green sheet so its not going to be long before the phone rings.

If it\'s been over 90 days since you bought your PS2 take that sucka to Wal-Mart.
If you\'re not under warranty, go buy another PS2 from W-M and swap out the new one with your old one and take it back within 7 days and you get a refund no questions axed.

My questions have been answered.
