Title: The One!
Post by: SER on November 02, 2001, 10:04:26 PM
I just saw the movie..

It was great, very Matrix-esque bullet sequences. :) Jet Li is getting better at acting.. Not that he was bad before, it\'s just that now he is starting to speak more English, but at the same time, look like a very old man.

I love the extra humor thrown in, be on the lookout for the President joke, you can\'t miss it. :)

All in all, great movie.. Great action scenes, but very predictable.. But, that\'s what an action movie basically is.

The One is the best movie since The Matrix.  It was very cool.

serrano007, Predictable?  For the first half of the movie, I was still trying to figure out what was going on.  The other half I was looking forward to see what happened next.  Maybe I\'m just slow, but I didn\'t think it was predictable at all.

That is the first movie ever that I actually want to go see in the theaters again.  It was that good.

Predictable, yes. You knew that that they would get mixed up when they got warped back at the end.. And you knew that the ring on the finger thing would come into play.. Other small things like that.. It\'s an action movie man! :)

Don\'t want to say more, might spoil it for some. :D

This looks like the biggest Matrix rip-off in the history of rip-offs.  They even used "The One" as the title.  Not that I\'m complaining b/c I\'m seeing it tomorrow...

I\'m glad to hear that it was good.

yeah I thought the same thing and they even gave it the title the one. But the way they shoot the fighting scenes with the camera in the movie I kind of don\'t like. It looks real cheesy. But rip offs are expected as long as it is a good action flix I am not gone complain.

And to keep up with the off topic I can\'t look at that avatar either it hurts my eyes everytime. Those flashing colors will me make you blind.

Did you know that The Matrix was not the first movie to have those paused rotating camera effects? Wing Commander was the first.. They just added those slow mo bullets, basically. :)

So you\'ve seen the movie?  If not, don\'t judge it until you see it.  If so, tell us what you thought...

I am actually disappointed that there aren\'t more movies that are The Matrix style rip-offs.  The Matrix had some brilliant effects, and I was sure that it would be the next big thing.  But if I am remembering correctly, The One is the only movie after The Matrix that uses the cool camera effects style.  I am hoping for more movies like this in the future (hurry up and get out The Matrix 2!).

Anyways, I think The One is more than just a cheap rip-off.  They did a lot cooler things than what was done in The Matrix.  Hopefully this will push the makers of The Matrix 2 work harder to make the movie even crazier and graphically impressive.

As a martial arts action movie, The One is pretty tame. Even the Jet Li vs Jet Li scene.

You want amazing choreography in a Jet Li film, go watch The Legend 1 & 2 aka Fong Sai Yuk. Or The New Legend of Shaolin or the Once Upon A Time in China series.

Even The Matrix had better martial arts scenes than this movie, I\'m sorry to say.

But in terms of story, this is easier to understand and also cooler.

I agree that the Martial arts was not as good as in other movies, but the amazing special effects and cool story made up for that.

Yes, I saw most of those.. The only ones I didn\'t see were The Legend 2 and The New Legend of Shaolin.. They all definitely beat the martial arts of The One hands down..

Once Upon A Time in China 2, The Legend, and Iron Monkey have the best martial arts out of all the movies I have seen, IMO.

Do yourself a favor and watch The Legend 2 and The New Legend Of Shaolin. They\'re both available in the US on VHS and DVD.

And who has seen Once Upon A Time In China & America? Here\'s some interesting facts about it.

Sammo Hung is the director & choreographer.

The western theme was Jackie Chan\'s idea.

It was originally supposed to be a collaboration between Chan & Hung.

Hung, instead, worked with Jet Li and "stole" Chan\'s idea.

It soured their relationship.

But after apologizing, they\'re both on better terms.

Chan eventually went on to make Shanghai Noon.

Don\'t think it is worth buying. :D

A rental is good enough for me.
