Title: Computer Virus?--help appreciated
Post by: Ghettomath on November 03, 2001, 04:37:37 AM
Well,  boy oh boy are computer problems fun:

It seems to be that the entire mircosoft office programs (word, frontpage, acess, excel) are locked down.  The icon still exist but when I double click on one I get a lovely little gray box with:

Microsoft Office 2000 Premium
Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000      Premium.  Gathering required information...

-then-

Internal Error 2344:  Please contact product support for assistance

-then-

C:\\WINDOWS\\StartMenu\\Programs\\MicorosoftWord.Ink
The Managed Software Installer failed to install the program associated with this file.  Please contact your system administrator.

Any ideas here?  Should I just save all my documents on a back-up disk and un-install and re-install it?  Thank you for your replies.  Computers are Satan:evil:

Here is what I would do:

1) Beat my dog.
2) Have a soda.
3) Go take a dump.
4) ReInstall Office.

Assuming it is a virus, and not just a corrupt office file, you need to find out what it is.  I\'d suggest you run the online virus scanner on your computer available from the Symantec Security Response (http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/) part of their website.  That link is also usefull to read up on the latest viruses and threats out there.  If you want a to just go to the page with the free online scanner and computer security check, this is the link (http://security.norton.com/default.asp?langid=us&venid=sym) for you.

just download a virus scanner n scan.  if it doesnt work try another 1.  if the worst happens u can always bring it to a technician or format and re-install everything.

I would just like to say:
(a)thanx to Fatal for that great website
(b)say its great to be back, the forums havent been this active for a while and
(c)no matter how tempting it may be, do not, DO NOT, download p0rn onto your hard drive.

A friend of mine just got into computers, gosh, I guess it was about 4 years ago now.

He was chatting with someone and they said, "Want to see some porn."  Being an ignorant guy, he of course said yes.  Well, they sent him an EXE file and he actually ran it.  What an idiot.  Served him right.

But you have to admit that it\'s worth the risk.

boobies.....:facelick:
