Does any one remember that rumor where Square was making FF7,FF8,FF9 remakes for PS2? Is there any truth to it?

I thought they more or less confirmed it last year.. But then there were rumors that they were going to GC..
Then Sony bought 19% of Square and Square has said they\'re staying PS2 exclusive..
So.. I guess they\'re coming to PS2 :)
When? No idea.

Thats strange I read lately that square said they are not PS2 exclusive(only certain games) I also read that they stopped doing the remakes of ff7,8,9.

Nate, this is a recap of the latest news with Square:
Before TGS, there were rumors all over the internet that Square was going multiplatform with lots of its games. Because of the poors sales of FF:TSW, Square lost tons and tons of money. Sony bought 19% of Square to keep them alive. After this, Square and Sony said that even though Sony owned 19% of Square, Square was still free to go multiplatform. But Square said that the only console they were interested in was the PS2. At TGS, the rumors were confirmed as just that -- rumors. So Square will probably stay with Sony for a while, if not this whole generation of consoles.
Square also said that they wanted to make games for the Game Boy Advanced, but of course Nintendo isn\'t going to let them without Square giving the NGC some exclusive games because of some contention in the past. If Square does program for any other system, it would probably be for the GBA. But as of right now, it\'s not very likely.
Where did you read about the cancelation of the remakes? I haven\'t heard any info on those games, but I doubt they were canceled -- probably just delayed a little until Square can recover.

I only want a remake of FF7, IMO 8 and 9 were disgraces.

The final Fantasy remakes are still being made in Japan, the likely hood that they will be released over here is slim. And when Sony bought stock in Square thier is no obligation to stay on as a Second party. Square is still a third party.
Now, square had stated that they were interested in developing for the Game Boy Advance and began nigotiations; however Nin. stated they would not let them develop for that system unless they did games for the GameCube. Square promplty ended negotiations.
Tomoyuki Takechi has siad that Final Fantasy Xi will be ported to multiple consoules. With the above refresne to NGC in mind, it is deducted that Square wishes to release Final Fantasy XI on the PS2, X-Box, and the PC. Square will publish FFXI for the PS2 and as usuall they leave it to EA to publish it for the PC and Xbox.
Moveing on to twelve. Twelve will be a PS2 Exclusive. This has been stated several times. The only reason XI is going MultiPlatform is because it is an Online game. And Enix, Namco, and Square need as many people as possible to purchase PlayOnline for them to make any money off of it.

bah 8 and 9 a disgrace
8 a little but 9 no way - 9 is my fav one out of them all if you ask me i just like the characters and all a lot more - except the main enemy Kuja - didnt care for him but the story rocked
not my fav rpg though that is held by SOM and Chrono Trigger
