Title: XP + More Ram = Happy Vid
Post by: videoholic on November 05, 2001, 03:52:56 PM
If you are even thinking about getting Windows XP, make sure you have 256 meg of Ram at least.  I had 128 and just added 256.  WOW what a difference.  The switching between users is now instant.  It\'s great.  Don\'t even concider going to XP without at least 256 megs of RAM.

When I had 128 it was sluggish.  If my wife had IE running on her side, my side was sluggish.  Let me just tell you, you won\'t be happy.

I guess that is why there are a lot of free Ram upgrades with the purchase of XP.

yeah.. true, rambus memory is as least twice as much as the regular pc133 and slightly more exensive than DDR chips. I also want more but cannot afford it yet.

and emperrob, I have a pIII with Rdram and it doesn\'t makes a big diverence in preformance. Its not worth the money but I got free so...

I just bought 256 meg for 100 bucks..  It has come way down in price!!!  go to memorysuppliers.com ..

And as far as RDRam, I think it is suppose to be a lot better in certain aspects, but it\'s not being taken advantage of really in software today.  I don\'t remember the specifics, but I am extrememly happy with this rdram.  The difference in adding 256 megs is really unbelievable with XP.

DDR ram right now for 256mb is only $30

You can not go wrong.

I am running XP on 256mb, but for $30 I think Im gonna have to step up to 512mb of ram

Ahhh yeah..  Big pimpin..

Once Crucial.com (http://www.crucial.com/store/listmodule.asp?module=DDR+PC2100&Attrib=Package) starts selling 512 chips of DDR, I\'m all about it, k-dog.

I wish I had waited till the new motherboards came out to buy my P4, but i\'m happy now. It just ended up costing me a little extra cash for the Ram.  No biggie.  Just a couple months ago 128 chips were over 200 bucks, so now that they are down to the 40 buck range it\'s at least getting closer to SDRam.

I remember in college buying 4-1 meg chips for 100 bucks a piece.

So I guess I saved $255,900 by waiting to buy my 256 megs of ram.

If you\'re american u got ripped off.
I can get 256meg sdram for 62 AUSTRALIAN dollers.

That\'s 31 USA dollers.

I\'m gonna buy 512meg sdram when i get my tax return. :)

I\'m currently on a celeron 533, 128meg sdram, 20gig ultra 66 hd.
Geforce 32meg DDR AGP card.

I\'m getting a TB 1.3 or 1.5 cpu, AMD mb from Gigabyte and another 512meg sdram.

I don\'t want a new Geforce card cause there\'s really nothing on pc that really needs anything more then a geforce card.
I might get another HD 50gig or something like that..
I\'ll probably go to a swap meet to buy the HD..
If i have to. I\'ll just get my brother too order the stuff for me through his supplier. (he has his own computer business)

ugh reading this makes me want a new mobo, stupid pc133 sdr ram.

Well that settles his, now I\'ll "have" to buy a KG7-RAID along with a few hundred megs of ddr ram thanks to you guys. After reading about you people and you fast rams.

And so I can really use the ddr ram I\'ll have to get a Tbird with a 266Mhz fsb :(

*edit* I just remember that my Tbird has an AXIA core, so I already have a 266Mhz fsb, whoopdeedoo *edit*

Jealous of what?  2 ghz isn\'t that much faster than a 1.3.  And XP is very nice on a fast machine.  Lots of stuff to get use to, but it\'s nice.

Watch the prices fall there everyday.  That is the best place to find good prices.

Ram is so damn cheap now.

And by the way.  The term ripped off implies that I was ripped off.  Give me a break.  I made more than 50 bucks while typing these stupid responses in this thread.

Buhahaha doubt that. I get manufactures cost prices, and buy at manufacture costs. NOT Retail prices.  Why? like i said, my brother owns a pc hardware business..  I also get listing on when prices are goin to change. (there not always spot on. But there pretty close)  So, I doubt i\'ll ever get ripped off.. AGAIN. (I used to pay retail) BUHAHAHAHAH
I think getting ripped off, is when someone pays say 200 dollers for a product.. when you can get it elsewhere in the SAME time for 100.. Not acouple of months later...   Off course things drop in prices as they get older.  DUHH  But DDR is fairly new too mem.
