Wow, crispy ingame screens. Realize this is Sony 1st party stuff.
I\'ve already read some very positive previews about this game.
Seems like the \'castle/environment\' is one big model with zero loading time.
Can you spot the jaggies ? I can\'t - there are non ! LOL  PS2 is graphically a piece of crap, huh ?
Shame the game will launch here in Europe January next year, I can\'t wait.
-
Damn that game looks like crap..
Xbox rulez!
10x power of PS2!!
ROOUUUUGH!!
Crusade against PS2!
No really.. Eye-popping graphics.. (Look at that tree!!!!!!)
Cant wait!!
-
wow, nice textures they have
I wish some developer would use some proper bump mapping in one of the games
-
ICO is seriously the most beautiful game I have ever played. you literally get immersed and lost in the world. the lighting is amazing. It actually simulates the effect when you look at something bright, it takes a second or two to adjust.( when using the look around function.)
there is fogging, but it is more like mist- it looks realistic and somewhat dissapears when you zoom in.
the sound is great-ambient sound is perfect. there is no in-game
music. (thank you!)
The game seemed too short, though- I wanted it to go on & on.
cheers-enjoy!
-
Well, Metal_Gear_Ray, I think real bump mapping is just \'one bridge too far\' for PS2, at least at such a scale. But if you look
carefully I think you can see that the textures were bump mapped in their production process. Anyway, I really like the
drawdistance and the jaggie free visuals.
Hah, did you read the Power Unlimited preview on ICo ? It was
real good and positive.
-
How long is ICO?
-
it is literally less than 10 hours long. I did it in about 1-2 hour sessions. (only stopping when I got frustrated at a puzzle.) I only got killed about 5 times.
I\'m no rocket scientist, but the puzzles were pretty easy.
the joy is in the environments ICO creates.

I didn\'t pass ICO yet but its the most breath taking game.
In this picture, you have to see the wind blowing the trees. It moves and twist with the wind! UNREAL!!!

Hmm..
Anyone know where I can find a video of the moving trees?
Best trees ever!! :nerd:
-
fastson-
I would try http://www.ign.com
they usually have a lot of vids...
-
And xbox fanboys had the nerve to bash this game

It is a beautiful game. I finished it twice, 7 hours first time, and 3 hours the second. Odd thing is that I believe it is running in low res. It wasn\'t noticeable at all while on my Wega, it was quite stunning actually, but on my HD set it is visually akin to a PSX game.
-
That\'s muh baby... I loved that game... I might have to beat it again since I\'m finished with DMC..... No wait..... MGS2 is out soon..... NEVERMIND!
I love the graphics.... And the game is so addicting.:)
-
how about that water effect near the windmill? I kept jumping in just to see it.
-
wow... I knew this game looked good, but not THAT good. Damn... there goes MS arguement about Xbox being 3 to 4 times more powerful. Thanks mate.. can\'t wait to get my hands on this game. :)
-
Nice looking site phil...
-
mmm.. Didnt find any "tree videos".. :(
If anyone has some suggestions, please tell me :)

Real bump-mapping is not "a bridge too far" for PS2, wait and see, most games are using it here and there (Jak & Daxter) but soon games will all have it. Anyway ICO uses bump-mapping and enviromental mapping etc etc , so what you on about?
-
I looked at the trees really close up, they have this really cool way of shading the leaves. the leaves\' shadow & light spots sort of "undulate" and pulse. since the foliage is overlapping, it give the illusion of a denser leaf count. wish I\'d thought of that.
-
Yeowza!
And here I am, saving all my money for FFX and MGS2 :(. Maybe I\'ll have the money after christmas (though I doubt it, if I buy the speakers I want).

Hey I think I know what you mean. I played the demo from the OPSM disk on my projection TV, and it looked very jaggy. Other PS2 games have not been so bad when displayed on this TV. Was it the demo, or my TV that produced that? If the jaggies were there, wouldn\'t they be visible in these screenshots? No way to hide them in a screenshot. I\'m thinking it might have been the demo that was the problem.
-
The jampack demo, OPSM disc, and the finalized game suffered the same transition for me, so I\'d have to guess that it is probably not the demo in your case. Regardless, I hope that any following sequel of ICO will make the jump to a higher res, at least for our sake.
-
Absolutely stunning and incredible! I had no idea it looks THIS good. At first I thought the game is not for me, now I must have it!

More ICO screens!!

I\'d hate to burst everyone\'s bubble here, but ICO does not look that good. The game is phenomenal, and it looks beautiful, but not in the clarity those pictures show. Don\'t let that change your mind however, ICO is stunning.

Well, I guess that just your opinion about ICO\'s graphics, but I was blown away by the graphics, they\'re amazing, it\'s a very awe-inspiring game. It really is a beautiful game when you really get to look at it.The draw-distance is amazing aswell.:D

Re-read my statements.
I never said I wasn\'t impressed by ICO\'s graphics. I said they don\'t look as good/clear as those screenshots. Those shots have no aliasing artifacts whatsoever, and that\'s not the case with the PS2.

I never said you weren\'t impressed by ICO\'S graphics. I was just stating my opinions about the graphics.I think the graphic look just as good as those screens. Anyway graphics don\'t matter much, gameplay is what count and this game has great gameplay.

To me, that implied that you were blown away by the graphics (which you obviously stated) and that I wasn\'t. Which wasn\'t the case. Anyway, it\'s pointless, the game is beautiful, so let\'s drop it.

I don\'t think it\'s a resolution issue with ICO, I think they applied some kind of filter to the image to give it that hazy look as an artistic decision -- to increase the ethereal quality of the game. It doesn\'t look like a normal resolution issue to me at least, not sure though.
-
I remember playing Ico on demo disc and I noticed lots of noticeable jaggies and low resolution or somehting like that because the pic is kind of blurry. Also, i notice the texture on the game is probably lower than the pic shown here. I might be wrong about the texture but I am pretty sure there are jaggies on the game. I didn\'t know getting rid of jaggies make a big difference in graphic until I saw it. Imagine if all of ps2 have fsaa on them, then the graphic will looks like a CG wouldn\'t it?
I notice there are jaggies on Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 2, Jax and Daxter, and most other games. If jaggies were eliminated, then i think we\'ll see eye candy graphics. Also, reason why DMC and J&D have jaggies have to do with it running in interlaced mode not progressive scan. I saw pics of them on the net with lots of scan lines (usually noticable in fast motion) and mismatch frame.

Thanks ppl, for the extra pics. I went to CVG and watched em. Awesome.
Anyway, please feel my pain, and the pain of all Europe gamers, because we have to wait till March 2002 for this game :crying:
About the resolution issue : I saw the DMC pal version and it was absolutely jaggie free, at least for my eyes. I think you have to intently search for them if you wanna see em. So I guess that\'s the same with Ico. Ico might indeed have a visual filter, like SH 2,
as Teiresias mentioned, which is nice.
The low resolution of the textures was just in the early code. They said the textures in the final product are definately high res
textures.
I hope Sony uses the time till the PAL release well, to improve some more on the game.
