There is simply no way the Harry Potter picture can match Monsters Inc\'s opening weekend gross. Potter will be lucky to pull in $35 million, while Monsters has almost doubled that. I predict that Potter will slip beneath the waves after two weeks, and the first quarter of 2002 will be all about LOTR. Potter will sink like a russian submarine.
Monsters Inc covers the widest demographic. LOTR is second widest, and Potter is the narrowest of the three. The oracle hath spoken. :D

I have read all of the Harry Potter books and they are great stories. I think the Harry Potter movie will do better than LOTR, only because LOTR is a vast and complex story that doesn\'t translate well into a 2-hour movie. Harry Potter, however does have just enough to fit that time-frame with an excellent story and satisfying closure.
I still voted for LOTR because it is the Supreme Ruler of Epic Stories!!!!!
