Title: just something to discuss about...
Post by: lionken07 on November 08, 2001, 10:43:18 AM
well, I was talkin\' to my girlfriend and she told me something like We should be equal (male-female wise), I told her I\'ll try to even everything out if she wants it that way (I guess every woman\'s difference when it comes to things of that nature).

Many things come and in my mind...yea we all talk about equal rights and the like...but

-why do we have "All Men are created equally" ? why not all women are created equally?
-what about "mankind"?
-how about "manhattan"??
-and "chairmen"??
-congressmen???!

I\'m sure there are many more like that, but just state about being equal isn\'t enough.

We say all those things because mankind is shorter than womankind or peoplekind, and we\'re all a bunch of lazys.  Manhattan, however, I think was a proper name from the native Americans.

It doesn\'t really bother me, the MAN in mankind and others just means people in general. It has a lot to do with languages, for example the English language is a lot more \'sexist\' than Finnish. In Finnish we only have one word for \'him\\her\'. We also say \'peoplekind\' in stead of mankind. On the other hand, professions such as lawyer usually has a masculin form, for example \'lawman\'. Direct translations by the way, we don\'t speak strange english. (except me. :p)

I\'m just interested in languages, that\'s why I\'m explaining these kindsa boring things.

What bothers me more in this world are the things that really state we are not equal. Such as females get lower pay just because we are females. At least we got it better than those in Afganistan..

Man is a general word.

Think of it like this..

There are a bunch of males and femlaes bunched together.. Then someone comes up and goes "Hey you guys!".. They aren\'t all "guys", it\'s just a word that is generally used.

Which reminds me...

In French, if there are a billion women they are referred to as \'elles\', a feminine \'them\'. If one man is added, they are referred to as "ils" meaning a masculine \'them\'. Whenever there\'s a man involved it automatically turns into "ils". Funny.

"MAN", this thread is lame.   I made a pun

Equal rights are great untill the Females have something heavy to pick up.

Then, its "Can you get that for me, you\'re a man."  Then I say "What about this equal thing?"

and then she says "Well, guys have higher muscle percentage than women."

and I say "Gee, I wonder how that happened."
