7.9. Docwiz, is this the "objective" review you were looking for, or would you prefer the objective *cought*bull crap*cough* review from IGN or Gaming Age?
Then again, there\'s an adage in gaming that graphics aren\'t everything, and Dead or Alive 3 is a good example of this. Once you get past its graphics--and you will--you\'ll find that Dead or Alive 3 doesn\'t offer much of anything that hasn\'t been done in other 3D fighting games, particularly its own predecessors. In fact, Dead or Alive 3 plays almost exactly the same as last year\'s Dead or Alive 2 and inherits most of the previous game\'s characters, moves, combos, and timing.
Theres more than that, but nothing you haven\'t heard from numerous sources over the past few months. Good graphics, and, um, good graphics.
Go ahead a read it:

Oh, and by "bad", I mean not as good as the Xbox fanboys are saying it is.
-
Yeah baby... I\'ve been saying this for a while.... Ppl just don\'t believe me that DOA3 has nothing to offer....
DOA3 just is exactly as the older lamer game.... And I got tired of DOA2... So will Xboxers...
-
True,
Well, i guess CatBox don\'t have game afterall :D
though i shouldn\'t laugh, DOA2:HC is still fresh in my mind :sconf:
-
I still don\'t like gamespot even though they touched up on the aspect of DOA3 I didn\'t like the most about it, which is what reviewers (IGN, Gaming-Age) have been avoiding most about the game, but this review is an example of what I have been saying all along. DOA3 is DOA2 with a pretty bow.
-
After seeing the review, i felt a little bad that a game with so much hype didnt do as well as some would think. Now, I hate fighting games, I dont care if it has the most involved story ever, i hate fighting games, they belong in the arcade. The only fighting game I would buy is a Transformers fighting game, but I played the Beast Wars ones and they sucked. so....
-
I have the feeling that many xbox fans are going to be dissapointed when they play this game, just like what happened to me with doa2. The first hour or so into the game, is heaven and you are amazed by the graphics, but after that it goes all down the draina nd all you are left over with is a shallow and boring fighter.
This is the ideal "rental" game to me. Rent it for a day and be amazed and bring it back the next morning
VF and CvS2 will crap all over it ;)
-
i still take Ryu\'s opinion over all these website reviews...
but even so...i\'d have to make up my own mind on whther or not i like the game
-
i know for a fact that there is a keen intrest in the proposed update for DOA3
DOA3 Victorias Secret Edition

-
I\'m the same as Metal Gear Ray. I was bored of DOA2 after about an hour.
But DOA3 will still sell well. Why? Cause it has good graphics.
Some people ar stupid and think if it looks good, then it is good
-
Although the graphics is great, maybe the greatest for Xbox, I can still stand correct that this game sucks.
When I had DOA2, I felt the exact same way as you guys. It got boring after about 1 day. The characters need alot more moves, and alot more dephth overall.
-
Anyone remember "Battle Arena Toshiden" for the PSone launch? It was this gorgeous fighting game , that received rave reviewers despite having totally pointless gameplay and it wasn\'t until later sequels that people realized that the gameplay sucked, due to the fact that the graphics had gotten old.
Well, this is the same damn thing with DOA3. All the Xbox fans are jumping up and down because they have a beautiful fighter at launch and it plays like total sh!t. I imagine by the time DOA4 - DOA5 comes out, they\'ll be complaining on how damn boring it is also.
-
Street Fighter 2(old school), Tobal No2 and Soul Calibur are the best fighting games ever.
And though I don\'t like that genre very much, yet I still buy them. I have every Tekken, every DOA and every Virtua Fighter game that ever came out. Though I enjoyed them to a point, none quite reached the platform of the first three fighting games I mentioned.
This is my opinion. Like I said, I\'m not a fan of fighing games but I bought them anyway. And only three of them I liked.
So...you can say I have an objective opinion - but it\'s still my opinion. So don\'t yell at me.
And it\'s probably true for DOA2 and DOA3. Is anyone surprised? The fighing style of DOA2 wasn\'t bad. Though it was nothing new.

Sure BAT was lame after a while - but it was something new! No game had a side stepping feature before that! And none had changing camera views either. I enjoyed it enough but like I said in my previous reply, it didn\'t give me that long lasting replay of SF2, Tobal No2 or Soul Calibur.

I don\'t get it?? Your saying the IGN and Gaming Age reviews are bull crap reviews because it is in opposition of what your perceive or believe?? This review is in concordance with what you want to believe so it automatically becomes the defacto standard? Very closed minded and narrow in scope. You need to broaded your horizons.
This is your logic? You do know that they are several reviews out there that praise this game correct? Only you selectively choose to acknowledge this one and only this one?? Sounds like someone who doesn\'t want to admit that it just might be a good game.
Does IGN suck or something? Are you telling me they can review games? Where does MGS2:SOL stand with a score of 9.7 from IGN?? Of course that score is valid!
-
:D
NEXT! :fro:
-
The only reviews you guys should listen to are mine, dammit! :D
So shall it be written, so shall it be done. :p
-
I personally would be hard pressed to even give the game a 9.0 based on the fact that I don\'t like fighting games. Now for me to say that this is what the game should rated as is ridiculous. I respect the fact that you think the game is a rehash but I don\'t think that gamespot\'s word is law. It carries weight of course but not the kind that reduces all review scores from every other site to it\'s own level.
-
I don\'t take any review as law except reviews from me. :D
-
Read DoA 3 review from http://www.videogames.com they have always the best reviews.http://gamespot.com/gamespot/filters/products/0,11114,475251,00.html
-
consider this thread moved to the console debating forum..........
or at least i hope some one dose it.
-
They say it plays like DOA2 and IMO DOA2 has the worst gameplay of any fighter, so thats not good

The Gaming-Age review said that the gameplay was same old same old, yet they still gave it a A rating. The IGN review didn\'t even mention the gameplay in DOA3 compared to DOA2. Docwiz was complaining that the Gamespy review wasn\'t objective enough because it got a score in the 80s. I was just pointing out to him how stupid it was to claim an objective review is only a review where the game gets great scores.

Like I said, IGN and Gaming Age are full of crap. They are giving out the high score based only on the graphics. The Gamespy and Gamespot review are judging it more fairly. This is the same thing with DOA2. Almost every magazine and webzine gave it a really high score, and even "fighter of the year", because of the graphics. They completely ignored how shallow the gameplay was.
-
Just played DOA3 at K Mart, not as good as SSBM. And like everyone, the Gameplay is the same.

Oh, and by "bad", I mean not as good as the Xbox fanboys are saying it is.
I just look at the facts.... All of the other non biased sites out there rate all the games differently.... IGN gives it a high score, as does Next generation as does gaming-age as does game informer, etc....
I just think its interesting that NOT one single xbox game has got a high score from gamespot and they constantly put down xbox all the time. Biased does come to mind... The fact that they gave shallow tekken tag team a higher score than any xbox game should kind of put biased in there.
Remember folks, many people will make up a lot of stuff because they don\'t like Microsoft or because they suck up to Nintendo or Sony but that doesn\'t make it fact.
The funny thing is that all PS2 games except for a very few should get a lot lower scores, but you won\'t see that from gamespot.
Its kind of like getting Faston to rate xbox games, you know that blind idiot would give xbox scores of 2.0 or so.
Its pretty much common sense..... Check out tons of other websites and magazines and find out what they rate it and other xbox games. I am honestly suprised xbox games don\'t get rated a 5.0 from Gamespot, might as well be called Sony or Nintendospot...
Xbox is getting some really high marks from NON BIASED magazines. The problem is that video games are so damn political today it makes me sick.
Just like Trip hawkins talking smack about the xbox because he gives sony a blowjob. Yes Trip, I hope you read this message because you really are a dumbass. Sony won\'t buy 3DO because you have crappy software that they don\'t care about, they just want you to keep on giving them blowjobs and dissing Microsoft. The only reason why you support Nintendo is because you know they are not in competition with Sony.
-
Docwiz: In a non related question..... Do you work for Microsoft?
-

What the Hell are you talking about? Did you not read the Halo review or at least WATCH their video review of it? They had absolutely nothing but praise and the framerate issue wasn\'t even a problem with them. They barely had any faults with the game at all saying that as soon as they got it, they played it for 10 hours straight. That\'s high praise for any game. How many games do you get where you just sit down and lose 10 hours?

Now, in case there are any more doubts, all three consoles will have great games this Holiday season. Harping on how a game can be better is pointless especially when it comes to something as trivial as graphics and I am referring to your comments about MGS2. I\'m glad you made the concession that the game really is great, but to say that the graphics could have been better is moot. Enjoy the game for what it is. A person who harps on how things could be better is never satisfied and to do so would be counter-productive to posting anywhere since nothing can ever be too good.
Unless of course, in your case, it\'s the same exact game, same exact graphics, same everything, just carrying a big fat green X in the middle.
Where\'s AlteredBeast when you need him... DOuble standards are his forte.
-
Ryu I totaly agree with your comments. I personally like "Enjoy the game for what it is", a true pearl of wisdom. It\'s just so ironic that in this thread, almost everyone is dissing DOA3 for what it isn\'t.
-
DOA3 creator says "this is the greatest fighter ever created" and I disagree with that. Obviously, I am going to have issues with the game and the obvious criticism being that DOA2 is not the greatest fighter in the world.. so how can anyone expect DOA3 to be?

yeah Ryu ......like you I don\'t usually read too much into what developers say about their own games.
and after all isn\'t it down to the induvidual gamer to decide if its hot or not
personally i think the whole Dead or Alive series sucks the big one :D
for me its the "greatest button basher/masher ever........"

I always hear people on the internet says Doa2 sucks so I decided to rent it 3 weeks ago (the same week that I got GTA3) to see what it\'s like and to my surprise, I ended up playing 47 hours in one week (I had loads of time after I finished my exam).
The only place that I see people hating this game is the Internet. An friend of mine who was a huge Tekken fan (he always come to my house to play TTT) came over to play DOA2 for the first time last weekend and he thinks it was a very good game, if not better than TTT.
Yesterday I had 4 friends (two PC fanboy, one who only plays CS and the other one who spends 4 hours studying everyday) came to my house and had 4 hours of gaming on my PS2. We spent 5 minutes on TTT, 30 minutes on GT3, 30 minutes on Time Crisis 2 and the rest of the time on Doa2. They all think that Doa2 is a really good game. So really, the only place that I hear people say Doa2 sucks in the internet.
At first I wasn\'t too happy to hear Doa3 is XBox exclusive but now I don\'t really care seeing that the gameplay hasn\'t been changed much from Doa2.
-
mmh.. I know that when I got my PS2 at launch along with TTT and a few other games, I was very happy. Being more of a DoA player in those days (I hated Tekken 3 since it was so slow compared to DoA - might have been a sloppy PAL conversion though), I was quite suprised with TTT. After a few weeks, DoA2 arrived and of course I got the game the first day it came out. Back then, I would have said DoA2 is better than Tekken hands down, but as the time passed by I lost more and more interest in DoA2. The gameplay no where matches a Tekken in the long run... the stuff that I really started to hate about DoA2 was its short matches and some other issues (overpowered characters etc). I think most people enjoy DoA2 more since its a easier game, especially to buttonmash. Tekken can be pretty fustrating for a newbie if played against an experienced player. It probably all comes down to personal preference, but I think in the long run Tekken is better in all aspects.
-
IronFist, great info. I can\'t wait for PS2 Tekken 4 comes out! ;)
-
The best fighting games IMO in my game library are Teken Tag Tournament(never had Tekken3) and Soul Calibur for Dreamcast. I liked DOA2(Dreamcast) and was thinking about getting PS2\'s Hardcore but there\'s not to much difference between the two is there?
-
The DOA games are sadly heading the way that the Mortal Kombat games progressed. I loved the first and second, but then they got bad. I bought Mortal Kombat 4 for Dreamcast, and boy what a piece of ****! I hope DOA4 has fresh gameplay and not just preety graphics.

well the reason you see people on the net saying it sucks is because most people on the net are more or less a lot more into gaming - hence the reason they visit forums based on it
i myself loved playing DOA2 - but it is a very shallow fighter none the less - its fun yes - especially for a person new to gaming who can buy the game and jump right into it and be good - i mean i practiced that game and yet the matches were always close with my friends
but really its a good game for what you make of it - but when it comes down to it - the game has no depth beyond interactive backgrounds - its just a button smashing goodtime in my opinion

Well then you either have friends who can play a mean game of pick up or you are not very good. I soundly beat my friends, nearly every time (once in a while after a long night they will eventually win one).
DOA3 is fun, but it is not as shallow as many of the people here would like to believe. The interactive backgrounds that you so easily dismiss dramatically change the way good players approach the fight. I\'m not saying it\'s as deep as VF, but beyond that it stands in at a very solid second.
