Whenever my computer boots up there is this unpleasent grinding noise. Anyone know whats wrong with it. Smacking it doesn\'t work :D
-
Have you tried the 2-story method?
Drop it out of a 2-story window...I guarenteed to stop all grinding!:D

Could be the fan inside the power supply maybe, how old is your PC?
-
it is yer A:\\ drive looking for a boot disk

Sounds like it could be anything with a motor booting up..
Heat sync fan, hard drive, CD-rom, disk drive. If it is grinding on start up then it may be failing.

maby u have a very low amount of memory like say 32 mb and its ur hard drive swapping data, my trusty emachines used to do that until i upgraded the ram from 32 to 160 mb.

The same happened to me. I opened my comp up and then turned it on to find out it was a CPU heat sink fan. I replaced and it sounds fine.
2nd choice is most likely your PS fan as someone else mentioned.

Maybe it\'s the dumptruck outside your window genious. ;)
