GETAWAY SECRETS REVEALED!
We spoke with a source close to the PS2 project, who revealed some very interesting details regarding the high-profile title
The Getaway is a remarkably ambitious project attempting to blend the photo-realistic precision of Project Gotham with the action and immersion of Grand Theft Auto 3. The project is one of Sony Europe\'s top priorities and a huge amount of money has been channelled into the game since its inception and has incurred long delays to give the development team enough time to fully realise its ambitions.
We recently spoke to someone close to the game who discussed in detail some of the its outlandish features. The game has naturally drawn comparisons with Grand Theft Auto 3 but the source claimed that the Rockstar title was "like a cartoon" in comparison. The source clarified this by explaining the main difference lies in the expansive interiors in which players can explore. One example cited was a lap-dancing club in the Soho area of London that has been precisely mapped, in which you can enter and lure lap dancers away with you. Clearly the way forward.
Other examples of the game\'s amazing depth are apparent when, for example, you are involved in a car chase on Oxford Street. You are unable to make progress thanks to a traffic jam, but instead of waiting to be caught, you can leave the vehicle, run down the street and accost one of the many pedestrians, taking them hostage. If this works as well in practice as it sounds, The Getaway will be very special indeed.
A further interesting point lies in the fact that Sony Japan has reportedly insisted upon a "tourist" mode being included in the game. Because of the accuracy with which London has been mapped, Sony felt it would be a shame not to be able to simply appreciate this fact, so you will apparently be able to board a tourist bus and take a guided tour of London. Fully awesome.
When questioned about the game\'s length, our source suggested that even if you knew what you were doing it would take some 20 hours of gameplay to finish, which, for a title so detailed, would be very impressive. Furthermore, once you finish the game as a gangster, an option opens up enabling you to replay the entire game as a police officer, even taking a different route through, with different locations. The game will also boast online features and make use of the planned hard drive peripheral.
In terms of release, we were assured the game will definitely be out next year, but that the development team was apparently worried that this might not be enough time to include everything they wanted to.

I just hope it lives up to the ambition

I sure hope it does too. I absoultley love GTA3 but the one thing I thought was missing from it was being able to enter the buildings
