Since barely anybody at these forums seems happy with Xbox, do you guys think the battle for console sales is between the PS2 and GC?
THIS IS NOT A FLAME STARTER. I personally think the Xbox still has some chance to sell decently although it most probably, IMO, will take 3rd place sales-wise. The GC, on the other hand, seems to be doing well and has some games, now and in the future, that look appealing to me. The PS2 is just plowing through the US and Japan and it doesn\'t look like it can be stopped by anything but the GC. If the GC doesn\'t do anything, I think we could see another 70-million seller.

I ain’t happy, more a bit disappointed, but I don\'t need to b!tch about the XBox, it is just another console, IMO. I\'m very happy with my PS2, and have no burning need for any other console at this moment, maybe in a while I’ll get an XBox and GC, but right now neither has too many titles that i want,
I don\'t want to buy a console and wait 6 months before I can start to enjoy it.

I\'m completely happy with my xbox, its as good as I thought and more.
Halo owns, and NFL Fever plays as well as madden( I think better) and looks better also.
Air force Delta storm blows though, I guess its alright, it lacks a sense of speed. I have\'nt played some of the other games so I can\'t judge them.
The xbox really is a good,,solid system with huge potential you guys should really give it a chance.
And playing games in Dolby Digital 5.1 is sweet, it really puts you into the game.

Wait a 1/2 year - year and see what its like then im just starting to fully enjoy my PS2 with games like GTA3 and Madden 2002 and Tony Hawk 3... dont count the x-box out yet.

Don\'t get me wrong. I don\'t think the Xbox will be a bad system at all. It\'s just that great consoles don\'t always sell. For example, the Dreamcast and Saturn (yes, the Sega Saturn). I wouldn\'t be unhappy at all if MS sold the most consoles out of the big three, I just don\'t THINK so. With Bill Gates and Microsoft you never can tell.

I am not disappointed at all. It\'s actually more impressive than I thought it would be.
Halo is flat out gorgeous and it plays extremely well also. I\'m not a big fan of shooters, but this has turned me. A+
Munch took some getting use to, but I\'m hooked. Amazing Graphics! A+
Dead or Alive 3. This is by far my favorite fighting game. Virtua Fighter and Soul Calibur are a little too slow for my liking. Tekken, I could never get into it. It\'s graphics are unmatched! A+
NFL Fever. Not the best, but not far from it. Next year\'s will own! A
Dark Summit. A unique game. It\'s good looking but in no way pushing the Xbox. Choppy frame rate and pop up, just a sloppy job. It\'s kinda fun. B-

If you have an extra 20 minutes or so, give my thread a read. I am not disappointed at all. I thought all the launch titles woud suck or be average, but the ones I have playe and gotten have turned out great!
Best launch ever is still Panzer Dragoon\'s launch, I mean Sega Saturn! I am so frickin excited for the new one!

Well I think XBOX is a good and powerful system, but it´s late. If M$ console would have arrived 1 year before, the system could win the war. Now, with 21 (or more) millions of PS2 sold and great games for Sony (FFX, MGS2, BG, SC2, J&D...), I think XBOX will sell a lot but never as PS2 will do. This war has got a winner. I don´t know what will be the next generation winner but I´m sure that Sony has done 90% at the moment in order to become in the King of Videogames.

who cares about a \'war\'? I talk of the games. My favorite systems ever have been commercial flops. But they have the best games on them for the generation they are in. XBox looks like it is gonna have a TON of killer apps. If you can\'t see that then I can\'t help any of you.

it\'s quite sad that the main "killer" aps (Project Ego, Malice) are only launching then.. I am glad I don\'t and didn\'t have that problem with my PS2. As for the games for PS2 after may - can\'t tell you any besides FFXI, The Getaway, Outcast 2 - but seing how PS2 is gettin\' better by the month, I am sure the developers have some nice suprises for second half of 2002. :)

Ginko, come one--don\'t you think your review of the xbox lineup is a little biased? Halo A+, DOA3 A+, Fever A, Munch A+, Dark Summit B-? Halo is a great game but it has problems (and I haven\'t even played it that much). It\'s not perfect. Munch is not that good. It\'s boring and repetitve--no where near an A+. Dark Summit is absolutely terrible. I haven\'t played Fever. DOA3 is great though.
Who cares how heavy the xbox is? Give it up.

It\'s quite sad how biased you are. The main killer aps and the reason most people bought the xbox is Halo and DOA3, not PE and Malice. The main reason people bought the PS2 is FF, Tekken and MG.
Sony has a lead now, but relitively speaking, the Genesis had the same lead when the more powerful SNES was released. It took time, but the SNES eventually won. This by no means indicated that the xbox will come from behind, but you can\'t count it out either.

For once, I agree with Watchdog almost 100%.
I don\'t think the Xbox will ever take the lead though. There is just too much going against them for them to be that successful.

Which thread are you talking about? I only see three of them without scrolling too far down (BTW mm..., Damn you Sony!, and Wowzas!). I have played Halo, Munch\'s Oddysse (sp?), Halo, and NFL Fever. The only one that really stood out was Halo.

I don\'t care what console becomes number one, just that I play it when I get it. I don\'t know when I will get a GameCube, but it will be when I actually have a desire to play it. I keep hearing about games that have framerate and washout problems on GC and would like to have a little more of everything before I get it.

And it all comes down to the talent of the developers and porters. Clearly Gamespot is talking about one game. Sheesh, Bespin in Rogue Leader can run at 60 fps and its displaying the entire fricken city.

Even if some of you say that these titles aren\'t all that great or that I\'m being WAY too optimistic, can you name a PS2 game coming out next year that is equal or better than the ones I listed for Xbox? If you think PS2 looks bad this year, wait until next year when Xbox and GCN games start pulling away.

Project Ego: No one\'s ever played this game. Not a killer ap, it could be terrible.
Shenmue II: The only title on the list worth arguing about, but it did absolutely nothing for the DC.
Bruce Lee: Quest for the Dragon: I\'m going to go out on a limb here and say this game will be complete ass. I\'ve played dozens of Bruce Lee games and all of them sucked.
Panzer Dragoon: A solid game, but did nothing for DC.
Brute Force: It sure is pretty. Nothing is known about gameplay yet. Again, you can\'t make any claim of granduer based in this game.

I could say the same about any PS2 game coming out, however you\'d quickly point out to me the developer track record. I believe the converse of your statement is true instead; the Dreamcast did nothing for Shenmue. On the otherhand, the power of Xbox and the marketing of Microsoft could give some exposure to an already great game. With those two things behind it, Shenmue and Xbox could share a symbiotic relationship just like Final Fantasy and the Playstation brand.

I hear you. But it\'s pretty hard for PD to make an impact on the DC when it wasn\'t even released for it. But I agree with you, if PD isn\'t released for Xbox, it won\'t make very much of an impact. ;)

I asked a simple question: What games are coming out for PS2 after May? I get no replies, meaning nobody knows. it is the same for XBox, you guys can\'t say \'there is nothing coming out for XBox" and turn around and say "PS2 has a great future" wtihout giving some games.
Give him some credit, If he keeps making sense like this, I may actually get to enjoy his posts, rather than loathe them.

While I don\'t know this Peter guy, I do know that the game is developed by the same guys that gave us that "brilliant" and "masterpeace" black & white, right? A game that was hyped bad, should have been revolutionary but failed to deliever. I am not saying though that it was a bad game though, it just didn\'t live up to what they initially promised us.

Actually, equal games is not neceserally better for Xbox. The people who own a PS2 won\'t need to buy a Xbox just for the *slightly* better graphics. You can point me out how much better Xbox\'s hardware is, but if it only looks *slightly* better makes your point absolutely irrelevant. Anyway, that\'s pure speculation, we\'ll see when we get there. And pleaaaase! what\'s more important to you, the exclusives or the hardware?
As for Altered\'s question what games are coming to PS2 after May 2002, here\'s the answer:
1. The Getaway (2002 -> should be a blast)
2. Tomb Raider Next Generation (Tomb Raider :))
3. Test Drive (will be on Xbox too)
4. Stuntman (look at those graphics)
5. Need for Speed: HP2 (Should be good fun aswell)
6. TimeSplitters 2 (should be great, considering part 1 was awesome)
7. Tribes: Aerial Assault
8. Collin McRae Rally 3 (should be great aswell thanks to Codemasters, to bad it\'s a Ford :()
9. Tekken 4 (should be a blast for the Tekken fans)
10. Wipeout Fusion (it\'s out here in Europe soon, but I guess it will be mid 2002 for US)
11. Soul Calibur 2
12. Dino Crisis 3
13. Outcast 2 (look at the graphics)
14. Primal (Europe release will be first, so I guess later in the US)
Does that answer your question? I am very aware that a few of those are also coming to Xbox, but again, *slightly* better graphics won\'t be an issue for me. I can also see at least 5 exclusives, 4 of them that will be worth every cent (Wipeout, The Getaway, TS2, Primal, Tekken 4).

After listing that, there are a few interesting tidbits:
Both the X-Box and the PS2 lack a huge platform game for 2002 to compete with Mario or a title with the enormous backing that Zelda has. Both the PS2 and the X-Box also lack a huge system selling RPG as well. FFXI may be what Sony needs to start their online funk, but I honestly don\'t see it being as popular as FFX or FFXII (Single player games) will be.
This puzzles me simply because the Japanese love their RPGs and if you want to be successful, you need a system selling RPG. Enix and Squaresoft have a pretty clear release schedule now with the upcoming release of Kingdom Hearts, FFX and FFXI as well as DQVII and DQIV being released in Japan and here in the states. Naughty Dog makes one game at a time, but they have no immense plans after J&D as far as I can tell. Sega has also said that Sonic will go to the cube, but their other franchises are waiting to be sorted through. Perhaps the huge platform seller for the X-Box might be NiGHTs?
It\'s too early to tell right now, but both consoles have great futures ahead of them. X-Box seems to be the developers platform of choice when it comes to new developers trying to break ground with a new company. It just seems a lot of companies are keeping very quiet about their release schedules. I think it\'s a show of the console war actually and the big guns will only be shown around E3 and Christmas time. We\'ll see though.

Like you said Ryu, both consoles (actually all three consoles) have a bright future ahead of them. Next year is going to be great no matter which console(s) you own. My most anticipated games next year are Timesplitters 2 and Wipeout Fusion. All the other games are just little bonuses. :)

Xenosaga... Now there\'s a game that just slipped right by my ass. I take it back -- PS2 does have plenty of system selling RPG\'s. That\'s not of importance to the US or to Europe, but it is to Japan. I still don\'t see why X-Box doesn\'t have anything spectacular lined up for the Japanese though. Hell, even if the day the X-Box launched they announcred, that\'s right, just announced, that Enix would make a DQ game for them... X-Box is a hit in Japan. No doubt.

thanks for pointing that out Ryu. ;) I did have some doubts when I listed it as one of the exclusives... Anyway. Good news for Xbox users then. TS was one fine game and I expect the second part to be too. :)

It all depends on what\'s happening on-screen that really messes with some games. Take MGS2 for example: The game runs like a dream until way too much crap starts happening like the exploding barrels in the lower A strut when you\'re fighting Fortune. The whole area is practically in flames and the slow down is just terrible. In Rogue Squadron 2, it\'s no different. During the Strike at the Core mission, just at the start with the high geometry in the level with the numerous ships and high polygons models in such high proximity, the level chugs along until you get rid of some of those ships or speed up past a certain section. Hardware has gotten better no doubt, but that doesn\'t mean developers can make 100% perfect games. Name the last game any of you played that was absolutely perfect in everyway. My vote goes to Pong and Tetris.

XBox has the same problem that PS2 has after may, a limited amount of stuff is being shown for both consoles right now. When I go to E3 this year, I will be able to decide further where my cash goes. All I need to stay heavily into buying PS2 stuff is a new Shinobi, Streets of Rage, or NiGHTS. XBox already has me with Panzer Dragoon, any more classic Sega stuff on XBox and my fate is almost sealed.

Ryu has posted good lists for both systems. To say that either system has nothing good coming out is ludicrous. And to say the xbox is just going to go away in the face of the huge developer support makes no sense either.
"Slightly better graphics" -- noticably to much better graphics is a better description. Let\'s give the xbox its due, it is a graphics horse.
I still think when everything is said and done, the xbox and PS2 will have userbases of comparable sizes. PS2 will probably always lead, but it will come to the point where both userbases are so large it ceases to be a viable point of conversation.

Now Altered, that\'s your personal opinion then. I could do the exact same for Xbox\'s 2002 lineup aswell, which makes your point worthless. The games I\'ve listed interest me for one, and I am sure other people aswell. And if you would like to compare a Bruce-Lee game with a GTA style game with realism sheer incredible (city of london, in-game), then go ahead. I am not saying it will be good, but if they handle it well and do it right, it could be a blast.
And Wipeout Fusion; I\'ve been playing it the last couple of days, and anyone who enjoyed Wipeout, get excited about this one, because this one is big. Some nice online-mode, I-Link, sweet graphics, and adrenaline to die for.

it IS funny! the kids know full well that im a sega freak, and i follow a multi console mentality, but STILL, they feel the need to lash out against me for two reasons
1. im an admin that is NOT afraid to speak out against ignorance and dumb newbs
2. im not anti-sony
i blame the parents for kids like that. "its my way, or no way" is the logic for them. they only got one console as a child, so they grew jealous of thier friends whom possessed more than them. this led to "console envy", as i prefer to call it. :)
