Nintendo of America has announced that its launch-day revenue for the GameCube console, games, and accessories reached a combined $98 million. The company reconfirmed that it launched with 700,000 hardware units, but it did not discuss specific unit sell-through numbers.
However, according to a Goldman Sachs survey, which polled 49 retail chain stores, Nintendo sold 47 percent of its original GameCube shipment. That equates to approximately 330,000 units, which would fall in line with Nintendo\'s own revenue numbers. The most popular opening games on launch day, in order, were Luigi\'s Mansion, Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II, and Wave Race: Blue Storm.
"Some 700,000 Nintendo GameCube hardware systems moved to retail locations in time for our launch, our largest first-day supply ever," said Peter Main, executive vice president sales and marketing at Nintendo of America. "But right now it appears that none of them may be left by this weekend."
Nintendo will ship 100,000 units each week during the holiday season. The company expects to ship 1.2 million units by the end of the year.
Hmmmmmmmmm..........they didn\'t even sell half of their shipment. Thats about how good gamecube sold in japan at launch. 330,000 thats pretty good but out of 700,000 thats not very impressives to me........

Rastlant are you stupid? Thats 330,000 out of 700,000 sold just by those 47 chain stores! There were many more stores selling the cube so if you took a survey of every store 87 % of x-box nation wide and 57% of gamecubes were sold according to the ny post. X-box came out 3 days before and had less units shipped to the U.S.A. Im sure if the same units were shipped and they launched on the same date x-box would\'ve sold more units but once the people with x-box get bored of the great graphics and crappy gameplay (not halo) I\'m sure they will got to a local store and buy a gc.

Okkkkkkkaaaaaayyyyyyyy.........you makes sense all xbox launch games has crappy gameplay.:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: But all gamecube launch titles were great? Whatever............Most of all the xbox games were rated higher than the gamecube high profile launch games everywhere. For example halo 9.7, doa3 9.4, and project gothem racing 8.8. Gamecube games got RL2 I think it got like a 9.1, Luigi Mansion 7.0, and Wave Race BS 9.2. What I\'m saying you have to be crazy to believe nintendo sold out of all 700,000 gamecubes. Cause they still can be found in stores. I still say xbox is a wwwaaaayyyyy better systems with way better games.

No, you\'re stupid. They serveyed the 49 stores to see how many they sold over how many they got. You then create a ratio and apply it to the total launch units shipped. There is no need to survey all the stores that sold it, you have just created a rough estimate. That estimate is 47% sold.

According the today\'s update on http://cube.ign.com, Nintendo has sold all 700,000 initial units since Sunday. Whether or not you believe this is up to you. I know some people have seen Gamecubes and XBoxes still on the shelves in some places (both are sold out where I live). Anyways, I guess they\'ll report on that soon.

All of the GameCube units might have sold out on the launch if The Sunday\'s adds before had put an add in for the Cube, all were adds for the XBox, people proabably didn\'t see the add until the pervious Sunday morning.

Do these numbers effect you? No! So, why the hell are you all bothering to argue about this? Sheesh.
If, Nintendo did sell 330,000 then that was a great launch day sale. No one, not even Nintendo expected to sell all 700,000. The reason for them launching so many systems was to AVOID a huge hysteria like Sony and MS created. So, while people are lookin\' for Xbox systems and can\'t find them, due to a shortage, NIntendo has the GC out there, sellin\' them this holiday season and raking the money in.
