Nintendo today claimed an early
victory against Microsoft in the console wars.

The GameCube raked in over $98 Million in retail sales on Sunday, marking
the most successful hardware launch of the year.

It is estimated that around half of the original 700,000 GameCubes have
sold through, that number is already more than the amount of Xbox units
shipped. Initial hardware unit sales were said to be double that of
                                 Microsoft\'s Xbox.

"Some 700,000 Ninetndo GameCube hardware systems moved to retail
locations in time for our launch, our largest first day supply ever," says
Peter Main, executive vice president sales and marketing at Nintendo of
America. "But right now it appears that none of them may be left by this
                                 weekend."

Nintendo revealed that most the three most popular GCN games were all
exclusive to the console. The top-seller was LUIGI\'S MANSION, followed
by ROGUE LEADER and WAVE RACE: BLUE STORM.

"Nintendo GameCube is the most exciting new entrant in the video game
sector," says Joseph Spiegel of Spinner Asset Management. "Its lineup of
exclusive software titles is fun and unique, and with a price tag $100 less
than its competitors Nintendo GameCube is particularly attractive in the
current economy. Consumers, whether 28 years old or the parents of an
eight-year-old, can buy a system and two great games for less than the
                                 price of the competitions\' hardware."

Nintendo was expecting most retailers to be sold out of the Nintendo
GameCube by the end of this weekend.

See it for your selves!!!! NGC sold more units than x-box!

Microsoft says 1 million consoles at launch... we get 300,000.  I thought their whole production surrounded the emphasis that they didn\'t want to (excuse the quote) "Pull a Sony" and yet they produce EVEN LESS than what Sony produced.  This is just confusing.  I guess no one really CAN believe what a console manufacturer says.  Nintendo sold more at a cheaper cost and with more produced units.  Did they both sell out on the first day regardless?  Yes.  Will that matter in a year?  No.

Well Ryu accually it does have an affect on the system if it doesnt sell out as first as another. If X-box sold out in the first 2 hours and Gc sold out in the first few days, more people would probally buy x-box. It\'s a cause and effect situation.

Umm Ryu, MS didn\'t pull a Sony by any means. They only supplies slightly less than the demand to create a sense of need for consumers. Best Buy got their second shipment in yesterday of 45 consoles. We got 106 at launch, So far we havent seen any new GCs, of course that could be because XBox sold out in a matter of hours and it took days for GC to sell out.

Of course, our MS rep treats us right, though.

Altered, your store is but one of hundreds, how can you be so sure that it was the same for you as it was for others everywhere?  As for days to sell out, the GCN came out sunday, are you now saying the report of the console completely selling out everywhere, that was posted Monday, is false?

Indeed I am, I work in an electronics store, is one of the top retailers in terms of videogames in the US, and I know at least 4 other stores in my district that still had at least 3 in every store (out of varying first shipments) by Tuesday.

It simply isn\'t possible for a site, nor Nintendo, to know that all the systems have been sold out. The news is most likely a guess, and a bad one at that. By the time I left today, we had sold around 20-25 more XBoxs out of the 45! That is a one day sell, without any promotion or anything. So, so far, in my store, which could be an anomaly, XBox is outselling GC nearly 2:1 (after tomorrow).

I see your point.  It\'s good to have someone on hand to tell me these things.  See, I live in the Bay Area in California and we sell out of everything all the time.  More kids?  More gamers?  I have no idea, but I do know that when it comes to console launches and first day sales of highly anticipated games, without a pre-order, you\'re totally screwed.  It\'s good to know that Nebraska still has some Cubes and some X-Boxes though. ;)

We didn\'t have XBoxs for like 4 days and people were getting pissed! They would call and berate us for not having them. I am very pleased we got in the new shipment. Hopefully it doesnt sell out until we get another shipment in!!

Friday is gonna be nuts at Best Buy and if Nintendo doesn\'t ship more GC\'s to the stores around here, I know MS will. They will, IMM undoubtedly, win the Christmas wars.

The four stores in my area, Future Shop, TRU, EB and Compucenter have many more more GCs left than xboxes.  This may be because N sent more but all four stores are already out of xboxes (with the exception of TRU--oddly enough--it has about half a dozen).  All four stores have quite a few GCs remaining.

Now this doesn\'t mean anything really because N shipped more units, but it does indicate that there isn\'t a complete sellout (TRU alone has/had over 30 units left).

I think both companies are posturing now.  We\'ll have to wait and see.

Well ofcourse x-box sold out it only shipped 300,000, 400,000 less then GCN! Still gc sold atleast 1/2 of their gc which is the most x-box couldve sold. And lets not forget that x-box was way more hyped then GC.

Let me tell you I\'m impress about how well Nintendo sold his GC here in Mexico. We never had a launch day parallel to the US launch. Here in Mexico the NGC was sold on preorder for $550 USD!! YES!! $550 USD!! (Legally imported and with warranty in Mexico, you can also buy it for around $300 USD in the black market) And with that price it couldn\'t sell out but it do pretty well. I visited 6 stores on launch day just to see how it was doing. The 6 stores received about 60 GC and around 50 of those in each store were all ready sold in preorder. Yesterday, this stores had 3 or 4 units left. The memory cards however were all ready sold out everywhere.

LamePube? What the hell is up with you? Is there something drasticly wrong with owning a GC? Just because you don\'t want one or don\'t like one, does not mean it sucks or anything. The GC will continue to be a succesful system due to families who have younger children or people who just enjoy classic Nintendo franchises. Remember, not all of us require killing / adult themes in our games. Sheesh.

Still,I  doubt Nintendo even came close to selling every unit.

Listen I have no beef with you but I despise Nintendo and all that wishy washy crap they put out on the N64.

I also despise there diehard fans who think Nintendo is the only thing worth while. I\'ve dealt with them since the day the PS2 was announced. Granted there are idiots on all sides of the fence but coupled with my dislike for the COmpany there games and there atitude I enjoy poking fun at the Lamepube

Its a personal feeling its stupid its childish its lame its whatever you care to call it.

I DON\'T CARE

We\'ve heard sux box, we\'ve heard gaystation and now I add lamepube

its nothing personal to anyone and those who are offended, to bad ignore it otherwise I get satisfaction from it

In other words why should any one of you care what I think if you already know what you like to begin with

I\'m just having fun screwing with people in a childish manner. and its what I feel the console debate forum is for. Stupid childish opinions and rants

It seems that X-Box did better than GC in the first 2 weeks...

""The Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft Corp. had the best-selling video game console launch on record after two weeks of sales, according to The NPD Group Inc., the definitive source for sales and market data on the video game industry.

"The data clearly show that Xbox is off to a torrid start," said Robbie Bach, chief Xbox officer at Microsoft. "Xbox sold out as soon as we launched, and we\'re selling systems as fast as we can produce them. More than 100,000 units a week are being delivered to retailers, so game players are likely to find Xbox systems throughout the holiday season. With one of the best launch lineups ever, I understand why Xbox is the most sought-after gift for the holiday."

Most importantly, Xbox purchasers can\'t get enough of the Xbox launch games. According to The NPD Group, gamers are buying 2.4 Xbox games with every Xbox, resulting in the highest game attach rate ever recorded for a console at launch. Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. sold 1.9 games with every PlayStation 2 during the first two weeks of its launch last year, and Nintendo Company Ltd. has sold 1.9 games with every GameCube to date.

Microsoft\'s "Halo™" was the best-selling launch title according to actual NPD data, beating "Luigi\'s Mansion," the top-selling GameCube game. "Halo," the critically acclaimed sci-fi action game, also recently received a 10 out of 10 rating from the editors at Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine. Sales are also very strong for Microsoft "Project Gotham Racing™," "NFL™ Fever 2002," and third-party games such as "Dead or Alive 3™" from Tecmo, "Madden NFL™ 2002" from Electronic Arts and "Tony Hawk\'s Pro Skater™ 2x" from Activision Inc. ""
