Title: Good mini system
Post by: soundifound on November 22, 2001, 07:40:01 PM
I\'m thing about this mini system as my Christmas gift.  For $250, with Dolby Digital it seems like a good deal.  http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11058080&m=58&cat=64&scat=66

by the looks of it....it doesnt have the optical cable in......I could not find a "Shelf system" with digital in ...according  to the specs it has a digital in but the pic of the back does not show one....All I see is L/R and the speaker outputs...if it does I would go with the Optical Monster Cable........it is your best bang for your buck on optical cables.    I got the Cambridge Soundworks Playworks DTT2500 Digital........it Sounds great.....you can hook it up to your stereo.....but why it "IS" a stereo minus the AM/FM/CD/TAPE player....or you can route it to your stereo with some patch cables and some Y splitters.........if you get it I can help ya.......Best Buy does have it...you cant pick-it up tho.....it is 229.99 here is the URL    http://www.bestbuy.com/detail.asp?e=11043862&m=488&cat=521&scat=524

Well I\'ve looked around and some say it has the input, others not.  I guess I\'ll go to BestBuy tomorrow to check it out myself.

if you have never seen one it looks like a square hole it should be labeled "optical in" or something like that.

Well I went to BestBuy, checked it out, and it does in fact have an optical in.  Its on the left side, which is not pictured on the BestBuy site.  So whats a good optical cable run?

OK, http://www.markertec.com has them for 14 bucks...  I\'ve bought quite a few audio cables from here and they have nice stuff.

go to markertek.com and do a search for "toslink" the cables are the 7th choice down.

You can buy them in the stores for like 30 bucks, but if you want quality cables for a realistic price, have at it.

Here is the exact link to the cables, but this site is run in frames and I can\'t do it for you in the frame.  You will really need to go to the main site and do the search.

MOnster cables are the best bang for your buck they are $30 bucks I believe......remember to take out the plastic  cover on the optic part.....I forgot and had to find a pair of tweezers to get it out of the ps2.......Best Buy has them.

Again.  I must reiterate........

Moster Cables are the Bose of the connector world.

They are a total waste of money.  It\'s 3 feet of plastic and they charge 30 bucks.  I have a system better than probably all of you and I can guarantee you that I will never spend a cent on Monster Cable.

Peace Out.

Who is the actual manufacturer of these cables?  And what brand are they sold as at stores?

To use the stereo speakers for regular TV all I need is an RCA cable?   I would connect one end to my TV\'s audio outs(Red/White) to the inputs labeled Video/Aux/DVD in this picture.  Correct?(https://psx5central.com/community/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.bestbuy.com%2Fimages%2Fesku%2Fback%2F11058080baA.jpg&hash=7a57c1887fbde744bd4e4c088ac2efccd2cf1932)

With the optical cable all I do is connect one end to the PS2 and the other in the Optical Input on the stereo(not pictured in the above picture)?  And how is Acoustic Research for a brand?  I\'ve heard they made top quality stuff.
