I am hoping to get a PS2 soon and I was just curious what you guys thought about Grand Theft Auto 3 and Tony Hawk 3. I would substitute Tony Hawk with Metal Gear Solid 2, but I really don\'t like having 2 games where you have to do alot of objectives and have to put serious time towards at once. Plus it seems like everything that can be done in Metal Gear Solid 2 can be done in a rental. So what do you think the games I have chosen to get with my PS2?
-
Did I just hear MGS2 would be a good rental? I think Im going to erase that out of my memory bank and tell you to buy MGS2.
Oh.. and GTA3 is another great game. THPS3 is to but, it being over MGS2? HAHAHAHAHA.... Get THPS3 later. I would go through all the other games that would be worth while, but I dunno if you wanna spend about a grand.
-
I\'d get MGS2 then and drop GTA3 unless you just have to have that M content
and I would get SSX Tricky before THPS3 but thats just me

Thank you for your honest opinions, but why would you choose Metal Gear Solid 2 over Grand Theft Auto 3? I have been reading alot of opinions of these games on forums and most are saying that Grand Theft Auto 3 is a better game. To "Proud To Be", I am thinking that Metal Gear Solid is a rental due to the short time it takes to finish the game. I don\'t think I would play through it again after beating it once and I\'m sure I can do that in a 5 day rental:) Also, I said I didn\'t want to get both Metal Gear Solid 2 and Grand Theft Auto 3 because they both require my undivided attention to get through and I don\'t like buying 2 games like that at once, since I most likely would finish neither one then. Tony Hawk 3 is a game I can pick up and play a quick game of and not have to worry about anything or when I have to meet my next objective. Also it seems to have much more replay value than Metal Gear Solid 2 and a quick game around a track is always fun, atleast in the first 2 that is:)

Who the hell told you that crap
GTA3 is a cool game but its getting hyped up for its extreme M content. If the game was toned down the kids would not be praising it half as much IMO
its a game worth buying for sure, but to me MGS2 is just special and its a masterpiece IMO
GTA3 is just a great game
-
Do you think Metal Gear Solid 2 is worth a purchase for someone like me who would probably only play through it once? I could probably beat it in a rental and I don\'t want to buy a game that I beat once and then just let sit on the shelf and never play again. Is there alot of replay value to it?
-
Well if you would only paly it once then beat it in a rental
I on the other hand will probably continually come back to this game
-
I have done more reading on secrets in the game and I think it is a must purchase:) I think I will purchase Metal Gear Solid and rent Grand Theft Auto 3 later on:) Thanks for your opinions:)

Ouch! Has our PS2 gaming library come to this? ddaryl, I can\'t believe you said what you said... I mean, just how many "great games" are there? And within that number, just when does it become *okay* to call a great game, "...just a great game". Wow...

Well to me GTA3 is a great game, but its getting mega - overhyped as this "Awesome, and theirs nothing bettter" game by alot of people
take away the hardcore M content and these people who put GTA3 up on this pedestal as the best game ever will sing a very different tune IMO.
Its a fun game with lots to do, get a little repetitive and monotonous but still has its own flavor and originality
its a great game worth a purchase, but just not in the way some procalim it to be the end all
IGN Forum has a bunch of kiddies that insist this game to be all that and I just cannot agree to that extent
-
MGS2 over GTA3 and THPS3 for sure man. No question about it.
Ddaryl is right. If GTA3 was rated E or T and had no hookers it wouldn\'t sell more than Xsquad lol.:D
-
Yea if "it wasn\'t" riight, but it is that and alot of other things make GTA3 a masterpiece of its own :D
-
Another opinion:
Well Tony Hawks 3 i\'ve got for christmas so I haven\'t played it first hand but everyone says its amazing.
GTA 3 I have completed. It is a very good game. It has its flaws (like all games do, slowdown for one and the fact that it can become boring) but other than these its definatly one of the best PS2 titles and prehaps one of the top 10 best games ever.
I say this because I played it for like 2 weeks which in games nowadays is quite hard to do without completing them. These two weeks were all very fun gameplay - orignal gameplay too which I value on the PS2. Definatly worth getting both these games.
Rich.

My 2 cents..
Taking away the M content would totally change the game.. GTA is known for its M content.. It\'s been that way since the first game. What you are saying can be applied to MGS2 as well...

1)MGS2
2)What you want
3)What you want
MGS2 is the best game so it´s your priority.

Yeah some might. GTA 3\'s "M Content" (we don\'t call it that over here!) isn\'t what sells the game for me. Ok its violent we all agree on that but putting the violence aside essentially the main missions are just about killing one person at the end of the mission or collecting packages. Say all the gore was taken away from this kiling one person or bombing a building would the game be so different ? It wouldn\'t be as shocking and I prefer it with the violence but aside from the violence it will still have its amazing level of detail and none linear game which are the reasons I rank it so high. I mean I must like the game because I loath slowdown.

Metal Gear Solid 2 is a good game but it doesn\'t have much replay value whereas Grand Theft Auto III can take an eternity to complete everything... there is so much to do...
I\'d rent MGS2 were I in your place... It only takes about 12 hours of playtime [give or take time based on your ability and your attention to the extras in the game]
-
Yeah i\'ve done the old rent complete return thing.
Onimusha Warlords springs too mind. :)
-
yeah MGS2 certainly gets the vote in my opinion.
for a quick game, SSX Tricky simply rocks!!
