Title: Anime Fans Unite!!!
Post by: Kenshin on December 02, 2001, 03:25:58 AM
Hrmm just wondering how many of you peeps out there are anime fans. If so list the animes you like and the ones you own.

As you can tell by my name, I love anime.  However my favorite anime is Rurouni Kenshin .  Its got action, comedy and beautiful artwork, I would recommend it for anyone who is interested in anime. Be forewarned, there are 23 or so volumes in the Rurouni Kenshin series   Currently there are only 12 out in the States. Volume 13th comes out on the 4th of december, while 14th comes out January. My second favorite anime would have to be Trigun. I recently got it and it was so good that I sat through all ten hours of it in one sitting :D . I watch all my animes in Japanese with English Subtitles cuz I cant stand the Eng dub. Some of them are just plain and utterly horrible. About as bad as the voice acting in the Resident Evil Series.

Here are the ones I own. (all on dvd of course)

Rurouni Kenshin Volumes 1 through 12 (cant wait till the 13th releases on 12/4/2001)
Samurai X : Betrayal (My friend Ryu has Samurai X: Trust)
Samurai X The motion picture
Saber J Marionettes : Volumes 2 and 3
Tenchi Muyo OAV box set
Tenchi Muyo movies 1, 2, 3
Tenchi Universe box set
Trigun box set
Akira
Fatal Fury Double Impact
Princess Mononoke
Amazing Nurse Nanako Volumes 1, 2, 3
Ninja Scroll
Magic Knight Rayearth Memorial Box set # 1
Cutey Honey Volume 1
La Blue Girl Vol. 5&6 (one dvd)

Total of 53 anime dvds. My friend is even more of an anime nut than I am. He has 70 anime dvds right now and hes getting more during christmas

I consider myself as an anime fan, although I haven\'t had the chance to see too many of them yet.

My favorite is, naturally, Sailor Moon. I prefer the manga over the anime any day, because the anime seems to be aimed towards a younger crowd, a lot more sillyness and crazy stuff. But it is cute in its own way. I have most of the manga albums, only about three are missing!
Avoid the anime english dub at all costs. Pure horror.

Recently I have fallen in love with Angel Sanctuary. I only saw the first \'episode\' of the three part movie, but it was very nice & interesting. I\'d kill to get the manga, because the artwork of Kaori Yuki is incredible, I have never seen anyone draw as well as she can. Sure, the plot is pretty suspicious (brother falling in love with his sister) but the characters are great (and many).

They had Princess Mononoke in a little theater here in November, but it was all sold out! That was very frustrating. When will I finally see it. A friend bought the DVD and we watched it a little bit, and it seems like a masterpiece, like everyone says. The music is beautiful.

Oh yea, almost forgot. I bought X/1999 by Clamp. Those ladies sure can draw. They\'re incredibly creative. The theme is a bit like Angel Sanctuary\'s, so I\'ll be sure to love it, once I get some more albums.

A fellow anime enthusiast has loads of Blade of the Immortal manga. She says it\'s great, and with all the feodal Japan action, I can\'t help but agree.

Runouni Kenshin is surely the next anime I\'ll get to know. Once again. Feodal Japan. Katanas. Samurai. Kimonos & hakamas. What else do I need.

And on the shoujo side again... Ah my goddess looks funny ^_^ Got to buy it.

I have seen Akira, Gits & Ninja Scroll, but I didn\'t really like them.

Hrmmm, I can\'t bash on Sailor moon like most of my friends do. I dont think its that bad. Some parts are rather funny. I never seen any of the mangas that you mentioned...cuz like my Japanese reading and writing skills aren\'t as honed and skilled as I like them to be. I can read hiragana and katakana, understanding the words they form is another thing.
I\'ve heard alot of good things about X and Angel Sanctuary and Ah My Goddes as well. I might buy one or two of them during Christmas. As for Princess Mononoke, that anime was awesome. The english dubbing wasn\'t all that shabby either. Still, Rurouni Kenshin is still my favorite. You should definitely check it out Small Lady :D
Hrmmm it seems I forgot to mention the part of the animes you people hate. What animes have you people seen and thought was utter garbage. I, personally hate Evangelion. I know I\'m probably going to get flamed for this cuz I know there are a huge following of this anime but Evangelion was horrible, IMO. I mean the beginning episodes was ok. Mechs driven by humans who fight Angels. Then they turn it into a whole personal exploration garbage fest. Don\'t get me started on the ending. What kind of ending was that?!?! It wasn\'t even an ending to the series. I can\'t wait till the movies make it over here in the States. Its rumored that the movies make alot more sense than the TV series. Anyhoo, Evangelion = my least favorite anime.

The page doesn\'t seem to work right now.

So I\'ll explain a little of X, if you don\'t mind :) Taken directly from the back cover!!

"Kamui Shiro is a young man followed by mystery. Taken from Tokyo by his mother when only a child, Kamui left behind his dearest friends - gentle Kotori and her brother Fuma - in the aftermath of a mysterious accident that claimed their mother\'s life.

--

Their destiny was preordained

Haunted by his tragic past, Kamui struggles to understand his role in the future... a terrible fate inexorably linked to his unique powers. Now, as seers and psychics across Japan turn their eyes to Tokyo and the drama beginning to unfold there, the lines between light and dark are being drawn..."

Whoooo....

Ah, almost forgot, shingoku, that\'s the best sig I\'ve seen in years ^_^

haha thanks for the compliment on the sig small lady. Sup wanderer, welcome to the psx2central forums.

To Majin and killa, I used to love dbz but Rurouni Kenshin is way better. Dbz got too boring for me after I\'ve seen most of it. Same thing always happens. Bad guy shows up, good guys show up, both take 20 episodes to power up to their ultimate level, they fight, 20 more episodes and many flying and broken rocks later, the bad guy loses. Although I have to admit, I like to see more of Dragon Ball GT.

To Emperor Rob, how is Bubblegum Crisis 2040 Tokyo. I\'m interested in getting that anime but dont know what its really about.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have Grave of the Fireflies as well. That anime is very sad ( sad as in :(  not sad as in bad) Its about two kids who lose their parents in World War II in Japan. Very educational. I highly recommend it you guys watch it.

Well I haven\'t seen the original Bubblegum Crisis.  Basically BG 2040 AD Tokyo is about a post-modern Tokyo.  In the future people use robots to do their work; some of them are going nuts and destroying people/things.  A group of girls and a couple guys use robotic suits to fight them.

It may sound corny, but it\'s a good story.  One of my favorites.  The art is top-notch.

Hrmm sounds interesting emporer, I\'ll be sure to check it out. Is there a box set for it? I\'m the kind of anime fan that doesnt like to have to buy one dvd after another to find out what happens next, I rather just buy the box set.

I\'m not really an Anime fan, but there are a few that I\'ve liked. Most of them like the Tenchi series and DBZ I can\'t stand. But like SmallLady said.. those seem more aimed at a younger audience. Guess I\'m more of a "Manga" fan.

Ghost in the Shell
Birdy the Mighty
Princess Mononoke
Demon City Shinkjoku
Armitage III
Macross Plus
Akira
Black Magic M-88
Demon Hunter
Gunsmith Cats
Shadow Skill
and a few others. I pretty much jus watch what I can catch on Starz Action channel.

Lately, I\'ve been kinda gettin into Hentai because of a few of these old PC games I\'ve been downloading and archiving are Hent. Yeah, they\'re porno, but some of them like 3 Sisters Story and True Love have excellent storylines to them that don\'t even revolve around sex.

Animenation has one but it\'s too expensive.

Then there\'s this place BG2040 box-set (http://store.yahoo.com/animecorner/bubcris201.html) ; but I only found it today.  You could get them cheaper by going to buy.com and buying them separately.  6 DVDs.

Thanks for the info emperor but do you think that site is trust worthy? I usually buy my dvds from sites that are well known and trust worthy like amazon.com , dvdempire.com, and dvdplanet.com.

To ohmygod , hahaha yeah the eng dubbing for dbz can get rather annoying. As for the hating on Tenchi, I dont see whats so bad with it. I personally enjoy the slap stick antics in that anime. Plus the concept of one guy (tenchi) living with 6 girls is hilarious.
