Not only does it have no brakes, it also has no engine, no throttle, no gearshift and no steering wheel. And it can carry the average rider for a full day, nonstop, on only five cents\' worth of electricity.

Sounds very impressive indeed. It could do wonders in cities--although, considering where I live (the country), it wouldn\'t be all too useful to myself. It could be good for security gaurds and that sort of thing, too.

Reminds me of a Gamecube; it is cool, it just looks funky.

I think Shin is smoking crack.

If that\'s a fake article then I better get back to my bedroom, cause Pam Anderson has an itch she needs scratched.

Looks pretty cool, but I just don\'t see needing one in any way in my life.  Maybe for my son instead of a bike, but I doubt it.

Kaman says he made it for densely populated cities, like nyc, dc, atlanta...  If you think about it, it maks much more sense to go from place to place in a gas-free, 15mph, 4\' high scooter than a $20k+ 5.5\' wide car that is susceptible to scratches on your $250 paint job, harder to park, and is pricey to fill up with gas in major cities.  But if it\'s winter or raining heavily, give me back my nissan.

Oh and it\'s $3k and will be available to American consumers in a little less than a year.  American business/institutions like the police, USPS and GM will be getting it soon for better efficiency.

Sounds cool, I wonder how it will be in snow and bad terrain.

I have been waiting for this information ever since the leak a while back.

I wonder what would hapen if you just fell forward as hard as you can and tried to knock it over.

With 5ยข worth of electricity to fuel it all day it should have a type of generator to recharge it.

A hand crank that you turn before the day you use it, or have an alternator that kicks in when you are traveling down hill. (Let gravity charge the little amount of electricity that it needs.)

Thats it? Hmm.. I thought it was gonna be a  anti-gravity skateboard like in AirBlade..

What a letdown. :sleepy:

I know it\'s private money but just think; 100 million dollars (according to that article) just to develop that piece of **** scooter that NO CONSUMER will ever use.

I know he\'s invented some useful stuff before, but come on, a scooter? He could have used that money to work on getting more fuel efficiency out of a car or on those hypbrid gas/electricity cars. Hell, they could have used the money to help find a cure for cancer.

I loved this quote;

"In the future he [Kamen] envisions, cars will be banished from urban centers to make room for millions of "empowered pedestrians"--empowered, naturally, by Kamen\'s brainchild."

Yeah, I can see that happening.

"Hey baby, so you wanna ride?"

"Whoa, nice scooter!"

Wait till the import crowd gets a hold of them they have those scooters with loud mufflers, lowered down to the ground and a spoiler hanging out the back, and of course a \'POWERED BY DUMBASS\' sticker on the side.

I heard the thing can go at 12km/hr, that\'s nice I can run at 10km/hr and if I really want some speed baby I can take a bicycle!

Looks cool...But why would someone need that if you have a bike? Just cause you don\'t have to pedal?

You all are missing the brilliance of this..

Quote
On first inspection, balancing on Ginger seems only slightly more feasible than balancing on a barbell. But what Kamen is talking about is the way Ginger does the balancing for you. Lean forward, go forward; lean back, go back; turn by twisting your wrist. The experience is the same going uphill, downhill or across any kind of terrain--even ice. It is nothing like riding a bike or a motorcycle. Instead, in the words of Vern Loucks, the former chairman of Baxter International and a Segway board member, "it\'s like skiing without the snow."

I\'m sorry, but that is not only impressive but it is also brilliant.

sure its impressive and brillant. . .

but imo utterly useless - its a scooter and it runs on electricity - so whats the point really - if can use a bike and save 3k$ i would be much more happy

besides i aint one that likes the scooters around already

they are lame to me
anyway gotta agree could have spent 100 million a different way

This invention will revolutionize and contribute to the world in means of multiplying the population of...

Fat Ass, Lazy Bastards who think walking is to "Hard"

.

.
.
.
just what America needs, maybe it will have a hose that connects to your gut and sucks the fat out and uses it to grease the wheels.

Kamen is a bright guy, lets give him credit... but this "Ginger" is ... well, who would use it? i can see mailman, sure, police, yeah, on their doughnut runs ;) big warehouses, etc... but the average consumer ??? hmmm....

i\'m sure he will make some $$$ but i don\'t see the consumer jumping at this $3,000 marvel of transportation.

Too bad Kamen did not do something really useful, like get a cure for cancer/aids closer to realization...

HOLY COW.  READ THIS REVIEW

OK, this just slams the IT.  Do you think it has anything to do with MSNBC and Steve Jobs?  I mean everything the guy said was true, but boy does he ever blast it.
Title: PRICELESS!!!!!!!!
Post by: CygnusXI on December 04, 2001, 05:07:16 AM
Electric Scooter with brake, accelerator, and balance supplied by the user... $150

Electric Scooter with brake and accelerator defined by user "tilt" and built in balance control.... $3000

The delusion that your invention is bigger than the Internet and will revolutionize cities.... PRICELESS!!

They already have similar things in warehouse\'s.. I know target    stores have them.

I think its a waste of time and a money by people who obviously have farrrrrrrrrr to much of both.

Just keep them mofos off the highway and I promise not to run anyone over...

...like I do the bicycle riders.

If this thing only costs 10 cents of electricity to operate, then why does it cost $3000?

I could see the technology itself being very useful--look some ten, twenty years down the line. Perhaps motors imitating human balance could be applied to buildings in cities which suffer from earthquakes and that sort of thing.
