Title: My new PC: question
Post by: meddude2000 on December 02, 2001, 11:30:04 PM
i just bought a pc(amd athlon xp supposedly). i asked for a athlon 1600+ xp but when i check through windows it appears to run at 1.1 Ghz instead of 1.4 Ghz(which is what it is supposed to be). i rang the comp shop that i bought it from and they said the computer was not set up properly(motherboard i think). is this the case. or have i been ripped off. ive never heard of a cpu being underclocked !!!! HELP! :(

Ask them how to correct it then. Or - assuming you have payed the full price for a 1.4 GHz CPU - give them the PC back and tell \'em to install a 1.4 GHz CPU PRONTO! If that fails send them some white powder in the mail.

It really could be the BIOS setting of your mainboard. Maybe the front side bus has a lower setting (f.e. 100 instead of 133).
