Well, the big decision of whether to get an Xbox or PS2 has been made. I debated for 3-4 weeks, but the game selection for the PS2 weighed more in my mind then the shear power of the Xbox.
I only have 1 game (GTA3), but from the reviews and opinions here I expect it to be a fun game.
BTW: Shopping yesterday I saw 0 GC\'s and a lot of Xbox\'s. I haven\' looked at the sales numbers, but judging from all the Xbox\'s I saw Msoft is either pumping huge volumes of units into stores or that system isn\'t selling very well.
BTW2: GTA3 was sort of a ***** to find, sold out at Target, not at K-mart... but Walmart did have some :)
BTW3: Cheapest accesories I saw was a $20 Mad Cats PS2 controller at Target and a $20 Interacts??? memory card from K-mart... the memory card is crappy so I will take it back for a $25 *MB memory card from Walmart or Kmart ($30 at Target).

You are sooooo lucky to get GTA3! Its mature and violent content made Best Buy and Target pull it off their shelves. Though some other stores still sell them. Don\'t be surprised if Wal-Mart does the same thing.
An El.Bo. employee told me that their store will never pull it off their shelves. Apparently, the employees there are getting stricter on the games they sell to those age 17 or below.
Now...after you\'re tired of GTA3(which will take a long while) get Ace Combat 4 next! Or MGS2.

Lemme congratulate you, and don\'t worry about those Xbox fanboys. I\'m sure they\'ll think your decision was a bad one. (and it\'s not) .. There are so many PS2 games out, and on the horizon, that I\'m having a hard time keeping up with all of them. You should be happy with the PS2, and GTA3 is a killer game.

Get a stand! Vertical or horizontal, no matter but your system will look way cooler.

Yep, even if Xbox cost the same as PS2, lots of people are buying PS2 over Xbox. You did a great choice. Now theres alot of AAA titles to get with your PS2. Ace Combat 4, Twisted Metal Black, Metal Gear Solid 2 and many others are must have. :D

I have both PS2 and Xbox and would recommend the PS2 over any other console at this point. ps2 sure started off slow at first, but now it\'s game library is what it should have always been.
Must haves: gta3, mgs2, gt3

If you have any mates (which I\'m sure you do) get TM:B, smackdown 3, bond, or timesplitters 2 when it comes out. U\'ll need a multitap too

At first when I read your reply, I thought "well yah I have a mate (a wife), but why the heck would I need a multitap?"
Then it dawned... mate = friend! Well, I do have friends at work, but I have a 4 month old which really dampens the social life... so my "mate" and I will probably be the only ones playing.

one reason why i dont like the x-box is you need to pay an extra $30 to activate the DVD player when the PS2 is active from the first time it is turned on.....For some people that might be a good thing!

Now first off let me say that I love the PS2.(had it since Nov. 2000) The reason that MS makes you buy a DVD remote is because they are already losing so much money on the hardware that they want to make it up somehow. that is probably why the game controllers are $40 instead of $30 as well. The PS2 is also guilty of this forcing you to buy an expensive multitap if you want to play more than two players. So in other words all video game companies are trying to make money off of us not just MS.

I got my PS2 mid-october this year. I got a special package for 350 bucks, that came with a PS2, Madden2002, Vertical Stand, Extra Controller, Memory Card, Dvd Remote Control, and a free game of my choice.
It was one of only six packages at a local gaming store.
Damn I\'m good.

Yeah I had that money saved up for a Gamecube too, but couldn\'t let this offer pass me up and snagged the PS2.

You made the right choice going with the PS2 as XBox doesn\'t have very many good games yet so just wait till they do then you can buy it if ya really want to.

It was one of those run-down, privately owned stores called, "Randalls Games"
It was kinda sketchy but my PS2 runs like a charm
