"Credit Suisse First Boston has reported on the week of November 18-24, which details the launch of the Nintendo GameCube and dives into the second week of the Microsoft Xbox. CSFB analysts stated that the GameCube console sold an estimated 469,000 units, which is nowhere near the statement made by Nintendo last week of over 700,000. The PS2 therefore still holds the record at 516,000 units in their first week of sales. Luigi’s Mansion topped game sales for all platforms with 257,000 units being sold. Also included in the report was that PS2 sales have increased 83% with software sales exceeding 810,000 units in that week period.
During the week of November 18-24, CSFB estimated Xbox sales at 186,000 units, which totals 556,000 units for the nine days the console has been out. The Xbox has sold a total of 1.32 million games since launch with Halo sitting on top for the week period listed at 97,000 units.
THQ’s WWF SmackDown: Just Bring It has sold a respectable 194,000 units with Harry Potter remaining number one in sales for the PSX, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance.
Game Boy sales are up an impressive 331% with the Game Boy Advance increasing 157% in sales."

I was one of those crazy gamers that slept in and waited for the UPS truck to drive up to my door with my brand new PS2.

PS2 is just good.... Let me tell ya....
I hope there are more fun games after FFX and Soul Calibur... Otherwise... PS2\'s games will just suck after that.. MGS3 bay-bee!!!!

I should note that PS2 had no competition upon its release, whereas Cube launched right alongside Xbox. This is still fairly good news for Sony (or at least, Sony employees who like having bragging rights).

Ahh yes but if the Xbox didn\'t launch its safe to say the PS2 would be selling even better then it already is as well

Well, it looks like Xbox has got the ps2 for selling more consoles in a 2-week period.
The Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft Corp. had the best-selling video game console launch on record after two weeks of sales, according to The NPD Group Inc., the definitive source for sales and market data on the video game industry.
..................
According to The NPD Group, gamers are buying 2.4 Xbox games with every Xbox, resulting in the highest game attach rate ever recorded for a console at launch. Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. sold 1.9 games with every PlayStation 2 during the first two weeks of its launch last year, and Nintendo Company Ltd. has sold 1.9 games with every GameCube to date.

ps- I\'m console agnostic, I\'m just bringing up more facts for discussion. NOT saying one console is better than the other.

Hehe good news!

The PS2 might have launched against no other console competition, assuming we can discount both the original Playstation and the Dreamcast that is, but it was hobbled by a severe shortage. If we really must factor in the dual console launch then we should also make that footnote as well, shouldn\'t we? Because who knows how many they would\'ve sold had they had them in store, right?
