Well after watching my wife play it for the last 2 hours this is what i can say..
Firstly, you may have heard all about the graphics and the hype surrounding the game, well
imho it lives upto it in a very respectable way, and in some areas surpasses it.
Theres a 60Hz mode for the Pal Version but i tried it and i believe the game to look much better in the normal pal mode.
This is the first game ever that i believe to look better in the normal 50hz mode but props to ND for catering
for all our tastes and it all comes at a ROCK SOLID 60FPS!
The sound is technically perfect.. all the dialogue sounds excelent and has been recorded brilliantly.
there\'s little sounds everywhere and this brings the atmosphere to life.
Gameplay is probably the best that iv\'e seen since Mario64. yeah, the controls are just as tight but the fluidity
puts the above mentioned to shame. The characters are great and the game structure superb.
I Have very high praise for this game, simply because i just cannot see how it could be done better..
I give it a 9.7 out of 10.. i\'ll be playing with it through the weekend and see what surprises it brings.
I\'m looking forward to it.
Another thing, i had the chance of this or DMC... yeah you heard me, my local shop has it in Pal TODAY!
but after playing the demo yesterday i was hooked so DMC will have to wait till next week..
Anyway, all in all this game has StAnZo\'s seal of Approval, if that means anything.

WOW!! can\'t wait!! It isn\'t out here yet, but hopefully I\'ll be able to pick up my copy next week. I\'ll probably get this game instead of DMC, since I heard it doesn\'t really have much replay value and J&D does have gameplay of 20+ hours.

Thanks for the great feedback guys.. just a quick msg to pstwo.. i\'m not sure if you\'re aware of the shoddy conversions
that Capcom push onto us pal gamers. Onimusha was totally wrecked due to the sloppy and downright crap
conversion. I would like to see it in pal form but i sided with J&D not just because i liked it so much, but i\'m waiting for
the forums to come alive with reviews of the proper pal conversion.. I just didn\'t want to gamble. Even if
i had an extra £45 i doubt that i\'d have picked it up without seeing it first. I believe that i\'d enjoy DMC as ive been looking forward to it for ages,
but as time has gone on better games have come out and i have my hands full at the moment with...

Yep this game in on my wish list for sure now, I wasn\'t quite sure before but a lot of people are praising it, now I just have to wait till christmas
damn it isn\'t to long till christmas, normally in Ohio at this time its like 30 but today its like 60 degrees out, I\'ve got shorts on in December, amazing

I picked up muy copy less than a hour ago
I also picked up BG: DA about 4 hours ago.
I have to admit I was admiring my PS2 game collection quite extensively today and thinking how nice BG: DA and J+D were going to look next to all my other AAA titles

ddaryl, do your initial impressions seem somewhat like mine? or do you have any disagreements with me.
It would be nice for people to see it from different points of view.

Glad to hear naughtydog has added 60Hz mode but its a shame that other developers don\'t seem too.
Is there screen centering options ?

I did unravel the cellophane though, and I found it to be quite a bit easier to get off then all my other games.
high quality cellophane that removes easily from the case. those are my initial impressions ;)

I\'ve only just bought Bond, GTA3, Smackdown 3, PES and THPS3, and then they shove Jak and Daxter, TM:B, SSX Tricky and Silent Hill 2 in my face??!!
Whatare they trying to do to me??!! Mr. Bankmanager - No happy man!!

:laughing: @ ddaryl.. nice impresions m8.. also, RichG... it has screen centering options and in pal mode,
the borders are small yet again.. looks like most of the recent pal conversions are getting very small borders
except for Crapcoms games. just read a post from a pal gamer who\'s picked it up and he\'s quoted as saying
that it actually seems to play slower than the demo and the borders are exactly the same as the demo.
now, why did it take 6 months to be released over here when absolutley nothing has been done to the conversion again

I\'ve been playing J&D for around 5 to 6 hours now, and what can I say? WOW! The graphics in this game are absolutely amazing. The textures are pretty good (better than most other PS2 games). The animation is some of the best animation I\'ve ever seen in a video game. Every character is full of life. The whole game is hilarious. Everyone acts so funny (especially Daxter). The voice acting is great. The only problems I have seen with this game are:
1. There really isn\'t anything too innovative. Sure, the game uses the PS2 the way it was meant to be used (zero load times, everything streamed in off the DVD), and it has an infinate draw distance, but as far as Platformers go, this game doesn\'t bring anything new. I have to give it credit though; It combines every single platformer ever made which IMO made J&D the best Platformer game ever. Hopefully Naughty Dog\'s next game will be more innovative now that they know how to use the PS2 right from the start.
2. The game hickups sometimes (meaning, the framerate gets choppy for small periods of time). It usually happens when walking out of a tiny room and going to the huge world. I guess there is just too much to read off of the DVD at that split second or something (that doesn\'t really make sense though, because it loads in the data every frame. So why would it only struggle right then? Hmmm...) Anyways, when it does happen, it only lasts for a few frames (less than a second). Then it goes back to the silky smooth 60fps even when looking out over the whole world. I found one place that was pretty much the highest place in the world. When I looked around, there was no pop-in, no fog (everything was a lot smaller though), and I could locate every place that I had already been to from up there. After seeing this game, I have no doubt in my mind that the PS2 will be able to easily compete with the Xbox and NGC graphically. I can\'t even imagine what PS2 games will look like a year from now.

wow, it seems very good. I\'m getting this one, so in a couple of weeks I\'ll buy DMC and J&D... great Christmas.

I just pick up J&D and It\'s the most funeist game yet. The game voice acting is just like it came out of bugs bunny cartoon. The animation are smooth like they all said @ 60 fps. You start at like on a training island to learn some of your moves. The save point are fun to see Daxter do some kind of dance. It seam like Daxter is the main guy in the game. You can just go anywhere like mario 64. The swiming animation are cool too. You can swim under water too. There is this power up lighting of some kind that is real cool that you can open door. The lighting afects are cool too. The day and night lighing overlap is like zelda or GTA3. When at night the stars looks very nice. I can go on and on, it seem like an endlest game! Stop and pick up this one. :D

i got this game a day early and boy is it great, usually i dont like platformers, but becouse of your reviews stanzo i got it!!! and wow its excellent, the demo is crap compared to this, mainly cos on the demo you dont relize what you gotta do......... i also got tm:b, played it a bit, but been playing j&d, also jak and daxter has a 60 hz mode ( go into options) also screen ratio, and screen centering!!
tm:b, seem fun, really fast, just getting used to the controls.....did i mention its fast....i mean really fast!!!!! effects are excellent, ill write more once ive played it more

Excelent kopking, glad to hear that your enjoying it. i\'m just over 40% completed and this has got to do
down as one of if not the best PS2 game to date. i\'m having so much fun with it, it\'s illegal lol.
Anyway, good to see that you aknowledged your purchase upon my mini review m8. good to see that i get things
right every now and then.. Everybody should own this piece of history.

I put in about 2 hours of J+D last night
gameplay so far has been a been there done that kind of thing. Graphics are pretty sweet I\'ll need to get deeper into the game to get a btter feel for it,
