A suicide ploy has just been uncovered that was to take place against Melbournes Rialto Towers.

The Rialto Towers contains 10 000 office workers and has been featured in The Matrix and Mission Impossible 2 (you know the office scene in Matrix, where they have the gun battle in the foyer of the building, with all the walls falling apart etc, thats the Rialto Towers).

Info can be found at yahoo.com.au and cnn.com

Personally, I would rather them blow up The Opera House or Paliment House, then we could get new ones.

The fact that 10 000 people work in them everyday.

Its also because it would be the best thing to target in Australia, primarily because its in the downtown Melbourne.

It also would be a good target because it wouldnt cause \'that huge of an impact\' that would create like WWIII.

No no no, this isn\'t a rumour, this was ACTUALLY going to happen. They caught the man (who learned how to fly in Australia). He is now in jail.

Was going to happen like next week or something.

hmmmm, yeah, right, like they would care about a lowly office tower with 10K people in a far away land, ... i think they can make their statement closer to home, like in Europe,...

Terrorist cells will be drawn to whatever target is within their range. If there are cells in Australia, that would be the target for them. There are cells in Paris, France, I bet. Guess what they\'ll target?  You see, cells are assigned to countries and will target the buildings in the country they\'re assigned to.

A true terrorist would make a statement with his act, so it would be directed at a country/entitity it sees as a source of ill will towards their own country. IMO.

I guess it\'s time to dig out some bad things Australians have done,.. say in the 60-70\'s era... anybody else wanna dig for it?
I guess someone was kissing too much azz back then.

Terrorism

The threat or use of violence, often against the civilian population, to achieve political ends. Terrorism involves activities such as assassinations, bombings, random killings, hijackings, and skyjackings. It is used for political, not military, purposes, and by groups too weak to mount open assaults. Terrorism reaches back to ancient Greece and has occurred throughout history. In the 20th cent. acts of terrorism have been associated with the Italian Red Brigades, the Irish Republican Army, the Palestine Liberation Organization, Peru\'s Shining Path, and the Weathermen among many groups. It is a modern tool of the alienated and its psychological impact on the public has increased because of extensive coverage by the media. Governments find terrorism difficult to prevent; international agreements to tighten borders or return terrorists for trial may offer some deterrence. In 1999 the UN Security Council unanimously called for better international cooperation in fighting terrorism and asked governments not to aid terrorists.

You dont seem to understand. Terrorists act to get a point across, to make themselves known.

If a terrorist plot was taken against a country such as Australia, I believe it would make the US very pissed, if you know what I mean. This is because Australia and USA have had the ANZUS pact for about 75 yrs now, ever since WW1/2.

If something was to go majorly wrong in Australia, then I believe it would be all out war.

And you think it would happen to a land more closer to home, like Europe? No, they would do it the fartherest away from WHERE they are, the terrorist.

Actually i do understand,
that why i replied with the following:

A true terrorist would make a statement with his act, so it would be directed at a country/entitity it sees as a source of ill will towards their own country.
This translates to this:

Terrorists act to get their point across.

The likelihood of a terrorist(s) getting caught is roughly the same in Australia as in any other (western) country. Besides, a terrorist with a real agenda, would hit you where it hurts the most, ... economically, psychologically/emotionally,  IMO.
