Title: my review on Bladurs Gate: Dark Alliance
Post by: unknown on December 07, 2001, 05:19:53 AM
If you are a diablo fan, or just a hack and slash rpg type of gamer, Baldurs Gate is a blessing in disguise.
I\'ll kep the review short and to the point.

Gameplay 9.5

What can I say about Baldurs Gates Gameplay except it has ADDICTVE written all over it, they should put a surgen general warning on the side of the darn box it\'s so addictive, it is very different from Diablo in more ways then one, although some things are alike, it\'s a whole lot better then it counterpart in every way.

You have 3 classes of characters to choose from, you have the archer, the dwarven warrior, and the dead sexxy mage lol, each one with thier own attributes and specialtys, in other words, arrows, big sword, and magic. I myself am a dwarven warrior seeing as how im the go up and slice you\'r head off type of guy :).

When you look at a game like this one you think to yourself "I will be bored after about 3 hours of the same thing" well YOU WON"T, this game keeps throwing enemy\'s at ya and when I say throws enemy\'s its more like flood ya with them! Each one very detailed and different from the other, unlike diablo\'s same monster just a different color plan, the monsters are all diff.

The control scheme is great & very user friendly, the game is 1 or 2 players to add to the fun, replayability in this game is pretty good seeing as how you hav 3 dif. classes to master and a 2 player mode.

Graphics 10.0

I can go on forever in this department but i\'ll make it short and sweet, In my opinion this game has the best graphics out right now, it even beats mgs2 in some cases, this game has NO Jaggies, infact if you can find one I will bend over and bark like a dog. the character models were done extremley well as well as the enemy\'s,  the enviorments themselves are just breath taking, from underground caves to snowy mountain tops,  everything is done as if they sat under a PS2 and milked the sucker until they got every bit of graphic goodness,  but the big kaboodle is the lighting effects and water, the water in this game is something else, it reacts to wichever motion you do and ripples follow, then the ripples hit other ripples and creat thier own, it is the most realistic water I have ever seen period. Its just amazing how they put so much detail into every nook and cranny of the game.....there I go drifting off, in other words the graphics are AMAZING!

Storyline 9.5

what are graphics without a story line to feed it and keep it going? Well luckily in this case we have that story line, this is D&D all the way through, if you have play any of the BG games for pc,  then you are not a stranger of the forgotten realms, but if you are like me and waited for the PS2 version to come out, this is a great intro to the D&D world as it just sucks you right in to the action, snow blind made it so that it seem as if you really are that person, and thats pretty hard to pull off, you have many task to do besides the main story wich is a plus.

Cons

       None...

Except that it may just be to short for my liking, I am already near the end of act2 and there are only 3 acts, iv only been playing for 3 days.

Final word
AAA Game..

Final score
9.7

Ok

Grpahically I ran into slowdown 2 or 3 times in the 7 or 8 hours I\'ve been playing. Very rare and hardly effects anything

I had 4 or 5 incidences of draw in when rotating very fast, but happens very rarely and rights itself very quickly

other then that the graphics in this game have no rival, but this is also because the games camera never looks into the horizon so the polygon / texturing can all be concentrated on the screen and not in the distance

Textures are at least 4 layers deep. and smooth as silk. Its reall an awesome spectacle

Gameplay is fun and addiciting. There are tons and tons of baddies coming at you most of the time and  areas where they are bunched up and you have to be a little more precise in your moves. The overhead camera gives the gameplay a sort of 2d scrolling feel, but of course the game is full 3d and very lush in details

There are some cool challenges with minor puzzles to do besides hacking away

FSAA is flawless.

Sound is fantastic, and not overdone allowing for the proper ambiance of the terrain you are in or on. A little mood background music is there to help create the mood nicely

I have a real hard time wanting to put the game down. I just want to keep on moving along to get to  the next area or level up my character.

Ya just got to play this game

and the Snowblind guys are onhte boards and they do seem generally interested in hearing how they could improve upon the game for sequel if there is enough interest inthe game

Nice review Unknown yet I can\'t help feel that when a reviewer isn\'t critical and simply goes on about the good aspects of the game that they are still hyped about buying the game. However if the game is truely how you say i.e. pretty much flawless in each category then thats ace.

DDaryl\'s info was also useful.
