well im just going by how i feel about this forum i guess, whenever im away from it for a while, i always feel the need to come and browse and post, its kinda like im addicted to it. I dont think i could just stop coming here just like that . I think it would be too hard, especially for luke who had 1600+ posts.

I joined Spaminators because I simply wanted to know what the hell it was about. I didn\'t realize that it was really meant for SPAMMING - and I will have to say that I have not spammed under its influence :)
I still remember the times when spam wasn\'t allowed at all. BRING BACK THOSE TIMES, Soulgrind. Then the true members will remain.

I do think it\'s going to be interesting seeing what this board turns out like without your best posters.

You are the master of all things good and now one thing SUCK. Killing Offtopic\'s post counts? Come on! I know I\'m not the only one who posts MUCH MORE in Off Topic than in other forums here, because this one is the only one I can count on to be interesting every day. I don\'t post to see my post count rise, rather it\'s like a small reward for being a regular for a long time. And now my post count will never get any higher because of this, because a good 90% of the posts I make are in this forum.
Why not just cut post counts across the entire board? Just don\'t single out one single forum, it\'s unfair. All or none.

aww C\'mon, seriously was there really any spamming. I just posted like I normally do. There were a few unnamed members that posted excessive nonsense but mostly people were quite civil when spamming and only put spaminators into their sigs nothing more, this is all just an harmless joke that got blown to big proportions.

If mm has froozen the post counts in off-topic.. You guys can spam your arses out.. the only reason why i stopped spaminators is because people just started posting 1 word replys and there was a lot of posts about nothing. I see it as a way for people to get there post counts up.
But now the post counts are froozen. So you can spam like crazy. Just not too crazy. Keep it too a decent reading level.

Wait a minute, post counts are frozen because of spamming, and now you\'re ENCOURAGING IT? Spamming is okay as long as it doesn\'t add to post counts?
I\'m sorry, but I think doing that was a very extreme solution to an insignificant problem. And it creates another one, because now it will be a lot harder for new people to get a pic or title, because every post they make here is worthless.
The only fair thing is to freeze post counts on EVERY forum or NONE. Singling one out, imo, is just plain unfair. Especially the one that is by far the most interesting.

True-er words have never been spoken.
Just because a few members added "Spaminators" to their sigs the board get\'s ruined. There wasn\'t any actual spamming involved. Some of this sites best members hang out in OT, not just to discuss the PS.2, but also things that don\'t really matter, just to talk about it. Some of us have made more than one friend on this board.
I for one don\'t care about my post count or the fact that OT-s post thingie has been frozen, the thing that bothers me is that "old" members are leaveing because of an overreaction.
I say, keep the post count thinge frozen for sometime, let\'s have everyone in a big internet grouphug and let things cool down.

Which people were basically doing until people who had "spaminators" in their sigs were told they could be banned if Souly felt they were spamming.
NOBODY was really spamming, I don\'t thing that anybody here was doing this thing to up his post count, merely to have fun in off topic.

Or time spent on the forums combined with post count.
If the guy has been here for quite some time, and bunch of posts he could apply for a pic, that way the number of posts wouldn\'t matter as much since they would also have to be here sometime to get the pic.
It would also go vice versa, if he\'s been here a long time, but has a very low post count he wouldn\'t get it. In the beginning it was a very cool thing to get a pic under your name, it showed that the poster spent a lot of time here and was respected by the other members. But it\'s become so common now, every other reply has a pic in it.
The simple fact is, on just about everyboard it\'s more desireable to have a large post count, because newbies notice the ones that have a big post count more than they do the ones that don\'t.

But yes it is a good idea to raise the post counts for pics, i think 1000 is a good number, it will make the avatar more desirable and the users with avatars more noticable.
Also, is it possible at all to freeze the posts for only certain threads? because that would be the ultimate solution. If a mod believe that a thread is spam, or even if the person starting the thread thinks it is spam, the mod or poster could freeze the posts in that thread..... but is that even possible?

Oh, I\'m all for the elimination of post counts. Remove them altogether if you would like. I\'m simply saying that, as a solution to the problem at hand, removing them would not be the most effective option.
Then you could base images off of how long a user has been registered--something they cannot change by spamming.

Realistically, I\'d say five months sounds decent. Maybe six or seven. A year might be overkill.

And again, halting the post count is just plain stupid. The people are gone NOT because of post count, but because of how pathetic this board has become in the past day.

How about a combination?
1. You must have been here at least five months.
2. You must have at least 700 posts (which actually wouldn\'t have applied to me after my first five months, because I did not come here much.)
3. You have to display a certain amount of intelligence. If you are a big loser who nobody likes, you get no picture.
You would have to meet all three criteria for a picture.

That\'s why you should have a handful of criteria they should have to meet alongside that. For instance: They have to have been here for numerous months, they have to have a certain amount of posts, signifying that they do indeed frequent the boards, and they must be a somewhat respectable contributer to the message board.

Freezing the post count doesnt bother me but Id rather suggest that situation of warning, then banning. As for the "time limit" or "raise the post count" for avatars? cmon now. I dont even look forward to getting an avatar, really.. I could care less. Who cares??? Us established members dont need them. We already have our pics. And most of the established members dont really care about the newbies too much.

I think the pic should given to people who show intelligence in their posts. Sure everyone spams every now and again, but just by showing intelligence in most of your posts should warrant a pic, as long as you have over 500 posts. So 500 dumb posts = No pic. Let the mods decide wether or not someone gets a pic.

The only problem with that is if the member has a quarrel or a problem with the mod that handles pics, he would be done for, even though he might actually be a good poster

Let me clear one thing up before I make this post.. I am not trying to offend anyone.
Now, onto the post.. I personally have not followed this "Spaminator" saga but from what I saw and understand it was just a simple way to enterain the members of the board due to the fact the board has been slowing down and slowly changing over time, for the most part it wasn\'t just mindless one word replys, yes there was some, but those could of been handled without having all this happen. As for my comments about the board changing, yes it has been.. Let\'s face it people, this board for the most part has became more serious and like any community (internet or real life) has lost members, gained members and due to that the board has changed. Infact, it seems as though unlike a year ago, when we could all have fun in a topic without much flaming or spamming, now\'a\'days any given topic will end up in flaming or spamming. This is one of many reasons I don\'t bother posting near as much now\'a\'days and I have even considered leaving the board for good, but I stay for the fact that there is still some quality threads around here, it just takes more time to find \'em.
As for the cure to the spaminator problem, I think MM\'s was the best choice over SG\'s for one reason.. If we start to give someone one warning over a one word reply that is viewed as spam and then it happens again and that person gets banned, we are going to end up banning a lot of older and "respected" members. On the other hand, Weltall brings up a valid point, what about those of us who mostly post in Off-Topic? We won\'t get our posts counts raised. I am personally not bothered by that - but I can see why some are and I think Weltall\'s point is very valid. However, I still stand by the fact that I think MM done what was best on this one by freezing post count in Off-Topic.. Then again, I am in favor of freezing post counts all across the board and setting up a new system on how someone gets a picture, such as a behavior system - where as if you behave and make quality posts for six months or so, then all the MOD\'s vote and decide if you are "respectable" enough for a picture.
I\'d also like to point out something about this very thread.. Does anyone notice how most of this is senseless bickering back and forth and it hasn\'t been closed? The board has been filled with this stuff lately and nothing is done, yet a harmless joke such as the "Spaminators" was going to warrant a ban? This doesn\'t make sense, in my opinion. I would rather see the Mod\'s pay more attenion to closing some of these threads that are nothing but flaming, dealing with some of the fanboys and in general correcting some of the members behavioral problems, instead of freaking out about if someone has a group called the spamintator\'s so they can bring some fun to the board,.
We have lost a lot of members in recent times and some of them wasn\'t liked by everyone on the board , which is natrual but they all brought a certain "flavor" to the board. I\'m sure some of the "old- timers" recall Jumpman when he was behaving (yes, he did behave sometimes), he could be fun, intelligent and even argue a decent point about anything, he was what AlteredBeast is to Sega on this board - a fan who likes to defend his console of choice. Then we have Luke who is now gone, a funny guy who while didn\'t post a lot in console debating or Main Forum, he was still fun to have around. The same applies to VideoHolic and Weltall - who is still here, but you can tell is thinking about leaving. The list goes on and on. You can say that they all left because they didn\'t like the rules or whatever, but that isn\'t true. I remember threads a year ago that would span ten pages and have no true meaning (" I love SmallLady!", "*KICK*) and nothing was ever really said, due to the fact it was all in fun. Then there is someone like Jumpman who was banned for acting out and being mean, rude or whatever you want to call it. Well, wake up! There is plenty of new people who do that and nothing has been done. What is fair for one is fair for the other in my opinion. We can\'t change rules mid-stream or bend them for one person, just because we don\'t like them or whatever.
In short; this board has a lot more problems than the Spaminiators and if they aren\'t addressed we are going to end up losing more and more members, until the day comes that the last remaining few realize they don\'t have a clue who anyone on the board is.

LIC, I don\'t like closing threads. It should only be done when absolutely necessary (or if I\'m in a bad mood ;)). That\'s why this thread hasn\'t been closed. If I had closed it earlier, you couldn\'t have given your view on things, right? So, you win some and you lose some.
Besides, I don\'t think the spamming as quite as harmless as some said it was. Of course, personally I couldn\'t really care less, but at some point it just got too much - the spamming got in the way of \'real\' threads. The \'quality\' threads we should all strive (is that even a word.. can\'t remember) for.
