Read here. (http://www.gamesradar.com/features/game_feature_page_511_1.html)
Which means the moans and groans from Zelda fans concerned at the \'kiddie\' Link have spectacularly missed the point. Kids are exactly who Nintendo are gunning for. Children spend the most time playing the most games, and their ever-pestered parents have a near-unlimited amount of cash to pour into Nintendo\'s coffers. Any moves on Nintendo\'s part to make GC games more attractive, enjoyable and \'family-friendly\' will reap huge rewards.
Comments?
I hope this isnt old news.. :D
-
yeah, nintendo did this with the N64 ,and thats why it never caught the PSX
perhaps nintendo will like its 3rd place in this generation, behind PS2 and xbox
-
poor nintendo... When will they learn!?
-
NIntendo, Miss Cleo sees layoffs in yar future.
Call me now far yer free readin\'

The main problem is the age at which kiddie games are not fun anymore. Children mature a lot faster these days, so the kiddie market is ever-shrinking. Sorry, Nintendo, sometimes you have to evolve in order to survive.
-
what a shame
its not like we didnt know this already but the fact that GC is gonna stick to its ill fated N64 ways - really a shame :(
i was hoping to see a turn of events but it seems thats not gonna happen this generation or at least not this year - maybe in 2002 -2003 they will see where they are going and turn themselves around
-
exactly Troglodyte, you hit the nail right on the head. I used to like games like mario and donkey kong, but when I take them out and play them now they dont seem as fun as theyr used to be, mainly because of the fact that the graphical style of cute and fluffy isn\'t suited for me anymore
thats why Im pro Xbox, nintedno has their own younger market, while sony and Ms will be batteling for the older gamers
-
This is just one person\'s opinion, right? You guys are acting like Nintendo stated this as fact.
Also, nice post Troglodyte. You\'re right about the kiddy market shrinking. I had never thought of it that way. However, even if games are aimed at kids with their looks, it doesn\'t mean that they can\'t be fun for older people.
-
You know its true. Nintendo is going to stick to its ways. Nothing new. The "future" of kiddy gaming. haha. I never really had a problem with 64 tho. Some games were really fun to play.
With the Gamecube its going to be different, by the facts that its 300 bucks and no one I know in a mile radius has it. :)
-
The kiddie market may be shrinking but it\'s still incredibly huge. With a constant flow of new kiddies filling the ranks I\'m sure Nintendo would be happpy to have the market all to themselves even if it means never being #1 again.
Speaking of kiddie, reminds me of a line by The Penguin from one of the Batman movies "I was their number one son but they treated me like number two!"
Mind you, a picture of a bassinet was shown floating towards the sewers will he spoke.
-
The thing is that Nintendo sems to have forgotten that all these kids that play their games do grow up get older and change there tastes.
Sure its smart business to cater to a fat portion of the market, but that fat portion eventually grows up to form the much fatter portion of the market
-
I think it must have something to do with trying to keep an image of being pure. Don\'t know if it\'s the best decision though either. Maybe it was just a matter of accepting they\'d lost most of their older following already.
GameGamer, you are right. There will be plenty of adults having fun playing GC games, no question.

Right about this time some nintendo fanboy (Jumpman anyone?)
will come in and introduce to us Nintendo\'s "New Plan" and he\'ll post an article supposedly by nintendo saying: We decided to grow up! We will now make the pokemon screw eachother and misty and ash will from now on walk around naked. Also, during battles new moves will be used such as "Head-cut-off-butt and tackle-blow-to-smithereens". lol

Damn man, that\'s a great idea! Too bad it\'s already been done at most anime porno sites. :)

You know whats even more shocking? How video game systems are mareketed towards kids.[/truth][/sarcasm]
-
That\'s not shocking.. We all KNEW that!
-
Poor little nintendo....
-
nintendo will always suck, i looked at the xbox and thought nah i looked at ps2 and thought hell yeah and got 1 but i didnt even bother looking a NGC coz i knew it would be a kiddy piss of **** like the N64 was the only reason i had an N64 was coz of the wrestling titles. NGC is only for kiddys and gamers who have no skills, PS2 is for grown ups and advanced gamers.
-

Wtf is that supposed to mean? For gamers with no skillz? Please enlighten me about what makes earning all platinum medals in Rogue Squadron 2 so goddamn easy? Hell, you didn\'t even try the damn thing and wrote it off simply because it\'s made by Nintendo so what exactly do you know about anything? You just made the sh*t list faster than anyone else on this board for pure stupidity.
-
nintendo games require no skill?? Yeah right! I find most of my games on n64 harder than many of my psx/ps2 games
What happened to your atavarr Ryu? Who is that dude in your pic?
-
It\'s ROck Howard from Garou (Mark of the Wolves) for the Neo Geo/Dreamcast, a sequel to the Fatal Fury franchise. He is also in Capcom Vs SNK 2 for the Playstation 2.

Y\'know this just goes to prove how insecure some people are. Yes I am buying Pikmin, yes I do still enjoy Pokemon (it\'s more fun than 90% of the games out there).
If you can get around the fact that Pikmin look like teletubbies with flowers on their heads you can realize that maybe it isn\'t so bad after all.
Does it matter so much that for all we know Celda is exactly the same game as the SW2000 Zelda but in a different graphical style?
I don\'t see anyone fretting over Jak and Daxter.
Yes, we may see shorter games from Nintendo. Not to say that Max Payne, Grand Theft Auto 3, or Metal Gear Solid 2 were grand epics of 30+ hours of gameplay.
Why do I not see people crediting Nintendo for what they\'ve done to appeal to older audiences?
They say ignorance is bliss. I guess they\'re right.
-
GTA3 is not a short game. I don\'t care who you are or where you come from, but you can\'t simply beat GTA3 in a single long sitting. I\'m sorry, but that\'s just not the way it is. I know people, in Nintendo forums no less, who have played that game for the past month and are still on the third island and they play the game intensly. It\'s not that they suck at it, it\'s just that the game is so damn fun.
-
Yes GTA is fun.

Not really. That policy only just started... in 1985.
Those who write off Nintendo because it\'s games are suitable for young people are really missing out.
It all boils down to personal taste, though. I know some people can only go for a Resident Evil and would never even look at a Banjo-Kazooie.
Those of us who can enjoy both are lucky, though. We have twice as many good games to play.

That\'s an excellent point you make! It is 100% totally up to the gamers taste. Hey I rented a GC, I love playing Star Wars, it\'s fun as hell, but for me I won\'t go buy a system just for a handful of games I might like. And I\'m real sorry, but you could tell me Pokemon is the best game ever developed. That\'s your right!!! ME, I could care less about it, I\'m not into any cartoonish like games, on any system for that matter. And again that\'s just my taste. I know someone will comeback and say evergame is cartoonish, but I would disagree. There\'s a huge difference in they way the games characters are rendered. More power to Nintendo(I can\'t believe I called them by thier real name) for wanting to concentrate on kiddy style games.
Thats thier right and it\'s any gamers right to have the freedom of CHOICE

Eik = my hero

I think some of you have some serious emotional problems, for the simple reason you are overly insecure about playing game without adult theme\'s and enjoying yourselves. If half of you all took the time to play a game like Pikmin which is original and fun (more than can be said about most games now\'a\'days) you would realize a game doesn\'t have to be violent or mature to be FUN and isn\'t that why we started playing games in the first place? To have fun? I know that is how I started playing games.
As for the totally moronic comment about the PS2 being for gamers with "advanced skillz". That is total bull****. Ryu already pointed out one example of a GC game requiring skill (RS2), so I\'ll point out another one. Rent Pikmin and tell me if you can get all 40 parts in the "20 days" the game gives you on first try or without having to plan ahead.
Here is another double standard for all of you, it amazes me how esatic everyone was when Naughty Dog unveiled Jax and Dexter - an obvious clone of Mario 64! Yes, it is a great clone of Mario64 but it is still a clone of a "kiddie game". Hell, for that matter, none of you are complaining about Jax and Dexter being too "kiddie"... Oh, I forget.. It is on the PS2 therefor it isn\'t "kiddie".....
-
Jax and Dexter is too "kiddie" for me...
Happy now? I don\'t care what system it\'s on. They may be fun, I\'m just not intrested. That doesn\'t mean you can\'t enjoy it. Some people just don\'t like "kiddie" games. You can\'t say they are not gamers just because they don\'t like "kiddie" games. It\'s kinda like saying, you can\'t watch movies and enjoy them unless you watch Anime....
Some people love Anime some don\'t, who cares? Watch what you like. Play the games that YOU like.

Point taken and I\'ll clarify my point. Maybe I was being over generalistic or just not direct enough, but I was speaking about those who do nothing but constantly bash Nintendo because of the fact that they make gamers geared towards the younger audience or games without violence. I was speaking about those who do nothing but trash great games without giving them a chance, just because they are not "mature enough". I understand the fact that some people prefer games with more mature themes and that is fine. I like those games also. However, there seems to be a general opinion among a lot of people that if a game doesn\'t have mature themes, it can\'t be deep or even fun to play, which is totally wrong.

I agree with you there. Just the other night me and my cuz were playing some demos I got. And we were talking amongst ourselves, that it was kinda fun playing Kalota(or something) I\'m not sure on the name. Anyway, it\'s totally aimed towards children, but It was kinda fun running around in the worlds and checking out the graphics. But, as he and I both said, It\'s cool to play it on the demo and mess around with it. I\'m just not going to go and buy it, I myself am one that prefers more mature games. My favorite is sports games though, and those are fun for all ages. So I can see where your coming from.
