This is the reason why lesbians and gays should not be allowed kids.
Their lifestyle choice has made them unable to have kids, so they shouldn\'t have them.
Little Johnnie - \'Hi Mrs Doherty, would you like to meet my parents?"
Mrs Doherty - \'Of course I would Little Johnnie\'
Little Johnnie - \'This is my mum Suzy, and this is my mum Judy. They are lesbians.\'
I feel sorry for any kid in this situation.

I feel the same way. Don\'t you also feel that having gay parents might influence that kind of behavior? But, I guess if they want kids then you can\'t really stop them.

umm well i feel that people arent turned gay
they are just born that way
i mean if anything the only thing i see being raised by a gay couple doing is making it easier for the child to accpet gays and also i do agree it would make life akward for the child but i think its possible

Well, I don\'t think people are born gay, I think it\'s all in their head. It might actually though discourage being gay maybe. Either way it is putting the child in an akward position.

Gay people should not have kids.. (IMO)

Why would you feel sorry for the kid? I feel more sorry for you or Mrs. Doherty if she\'s so predjudice that she cannot accept same sex couples and somehow even if she did disaprove she would decide that would have some bearing upon how she would treat \'Little Johnnie\'. Remember, maybe only 50 years ago people were saying the same thing about mixed race marriages - "Oh, I feel sorry for Little Johnnie because he has to introduce his black mother to his teacher". You say it\'s race vs. sexuality, I still say it\'s predjudice and ignorance either way.
What does the sexual orientation of your parents matter? As long as they support and nurture the child does it matter if he or she has 2 moms or 2 dads? You can\'t \'make\' someone a homosexual, I know this is the homophobe\'s biggest fear; "Oh ****, they\'re going to raise a whole army of homos".
Or of course there\'s the rediculous argument that homosexual couples will sexually abuse their children, which of course ignores the fact that right now as I write this there are probably hundreds of children in North America being abused by their HETEROsexual parents.
A good father is a good father regardless of whether or not he is gay, same thing for a good mother.

Why wouldn\'t you feel sorry for the kid? I\'m not saying it\'s right, but don\'t you think he is gonna feel a tad out of place? Don\'t you think he is gonna be made fun of? And it is normal to fear that kind of thing. It\'s the environment you are rasied in. Usually overweight people raise a whole family of overweight people. A abusive family usually raises a whole family of abusers. It is set in stone that\'s the way it is but certainly how you are raised has an effect on how you turn out.
Edit: I hate my keyboard. It isn\'t set in stone, not it is.

boy that must feel strange having two moms and growing up...

Yeah, my keyboard is on the way out too - same with my mouse which has a hard time moving left. :(
About the being made fun of - so what, homophobic people win then? Just because they can\'t accept that a child can have same sex parents, then same sex couples can\'t have children? Same thing was said decades ago about mixed race marriages - \'Won\'t the child feel bad because his mom is black?\', so what, then mixed race couples shouldn\'t have been able to adopt children back then? The child will be made fun of by some, but if same-sex adoptions become more common (and less of a silly media issue), if people become less ignorant, then societal attitudes towards homosexuals and same-sex couples will change - as it has, and is indeed, still changing with regards to race and mixed race marriages.
How you are raised indeed has an effect on how you turn out, that\'s a good point, but you can\'t say that a child raised in a same sex family will become homosexual just because of their family environment - they will see heterosexuality in school, on TV, in society at large. If anything, like Sublimesjg said, being raised in a same sex family will make a person more tolerant of homosexuals, and they\'ll be able to realize that a person\'s sexual orientation isn\'t a person\'s sole identity.
I\'m not saying that every gay or lesbian couple should go out and adopt, but if they are kind, supportive and loving parents (which would be determined by social services in any adoption situation) then then they should be allowed to adopt regardless of their sexual orientation because like I said, there are thousands of children who are abused by their heterosexual parents and yet the media issue has become what sex the parent prefers rather than whether or not they are a good father or mother - and that\'s the bottom line.

Anyways, I\'m done with the forums for a while (other commitments) - I\'ll see you guys next year, have a safe and fun holiday season.

I agree that the man should not be obligated in any way to this child. However, isn\'t anyone questioning this guy\'s common sense? He was a friend of the two women, and volunteered his sperm. Duhhhh...doesn\'t this seem like an ethically and legally complex situation? Would any of YOU guys donate your sperm to your two lesbian friends without, say, a CONTRACT and hmmm...a LAWYER? I\'ve never been to Sweden, but I\'m willing to bet they have both those things. If I were a man, I\'d certainly think twice about giving away my share of chromosomes for a child that I\'m not going to take responsibility for. I hope he wins his appeal, but I also hope this serves as an example.
As for homosexuals raising children. I work at a non-profit child welfare agency. You would not believe the horrible things that some heterosexual parents do to their children. We\'ve seen 12 year old kids try to hang themselves while in a hospital waiting for a permanent placement. You think the kid with 2 mommies is getting teased at school? How about the kid who has to be sent home every 6 weeks when the school nurse is doing a lice check? Being made fun of can be traumatic to a child, but you should see how a child turns out that had to be taken to an emergency foster home at 2am by the police because his dad just OD\'d on crack.
The ability to be a good parent has nothing to do with sexual preference.

I don\'t mean to say they can\'t have children. If they wanna be gay then who am I to say they can\'t. And children are awsome so I would expect them to wan children. As long as they are responsible who am I to oppose. And even I said that being raised in a gay family might actually make you less prone to turn out gay. I guess it all depends on how those gay parents raise you. If they encourage normal sexual relationships then probably all will be good. If not they might be more influenced by society, but also they might be more influenced by their parents, it all depends. I\'m sure there are plenty of sexualy abusive parents out there that screw up their kids anyhow. And I\'m all for gay people adopting. There all so many orphens out there, better to have a gay home then no home at all. As long as they are responsible people all the beter. I was just saying it wouldbe horribly awkward for the child. That would just be one of many akward situations.
