I would just like to know how people that own this great game play it(Settings wise)
I\'m currently playing on All Madden mode my record is 3-10 with the Bucs. I have found that it is almost impossible to run the ball on this mode, but I\'m going to keep at it. Because when I play on All-Pro mode I can go undefeated. I play on 8 min quarters, I never hit X to take me to play calling mode, I manage the clock. Anyone got any pointers, I\'d love to hear them.

All I can say, this game just keeps getting better and better. Just when you think this game would get boring... you meet up a really good match with your team and sit through the game with your heart pounding waiting for that winning touchdown/feild goal. This game will probably never end up collecting dust like some of the other games I have.
As for the way I play, I play franchise and vary out the settings here and there. This game is the ****! I ended my first season with a record of like 9-5-0 or something, Im coming back the second season so far... 7-1-0.

Cool, but what I\'m intrested in most is the skill level that users use. As I said before I play on All-Madden and even though my record sucks It could easily have been better, out of the 10 loses I got, 8 of them were by 3 points or less. All-Madden, IMO is the way this game is meant to be played, I said you can\'t run the ball, but you can if you mix the plays up. But since I\'m usually coming from behind, I can\'t run. I play franchise too BTW.

I play All Pro. I mean I would play All Madden, but they cheat WAY too much. I mean understand a higher interception rate, running being a little harder, but throwing a perfect slant route to my receiver for him to drop it into the defender\'s hands 3 times in one game is BS. Fumbling the ball on every single rush and totally being shut down on offense by the defense of someone like the Vikings is crap. I wanna play on a harder difficulty because I totally blow away teams on All Pro. In my 5 seasons I haven\'t lost a single game, and I\'ve never quit a game or used Madden Cards.

Yes I agree with you somewhat, let me explain.. On All-Madden the computer doesn\'t cheat, it\'s very realistic. As for you receiver dropping the ball, if you don\'t drop back 10-15 yards your reciever will hardly ever drop the ball. The key to being succesfull playing on All-Madden, is just playing it like a real game. You have to stay in the pocket and read your receivers, what helps is to have 2 primary guys, check them quickly, if they are both covered, dump it off. To the TE or RB. ALso you have to change snap counts, the defense will shut you down if you don\'t change it, another good thing is wait for your center to point out blocking assignments. If you do this you will find you\'ll get much better protection, and holes will be open longer while running. All-Madden is as realistic as your gonna get, it takes practice, but once you get the hang of fundamental football you will be able to have success. One reason I can\'t run the ball is because i don\'t have quality backs with the bucs. Don\'t get me wrong, Alstot can rumble for 3-4 yards everytime, and Dunn will break one for me at least once a game. But I kill them passing thats why my games are all so close, cause you can pass all day on a team with a weak secondary. Try my tips out on All-Madden, you\'ll see what I\'m talking about and the challenge just makes you want to keep playing.
-
I play on Pro. Not cuz\' I suck (believe me, I can easily play on All Pro and even put up a few points on All Madden).
I like Pro cuz\' it\'s so exciting. Running the ball is much easier, yet it\'s still hard to break away for a gain bigger than 25 yards. Kick returning is easier. Everything is just easier, and the computer is still able to make the game interesting sometimes.
I\'m sorry but on All Madden the longest run I got was only 12 yards.
Any of you guys doing Madden Cards? I have about 3/4 of them. I need more cheerleaders cards.

I also play on Pro. I found it to be the best of all of em. Though I still go back to All-Pro sometimes cause it fun there to with more challenge. All-Madden is bull****!. period.
I never use Madden Cards, but I love collecting them... I have about half of them. I could have more but I dont go into the two minute drill much, and thats where you get mucho tokens. And for the fact that for every pack you get after like the first three or four, you only get about five new cards for every pack. I cant wait to see all the cards in my book. I consider the cards cheating tho and I refuse to use them.
-

 And I thought you guys liked challenges
Hey you guys can whine and complain about All-Madden all you want, but that is the level this game was meant to be played on. And if you can play on Pro and All-Pro and not go undefeated then your probably right All-Madden just isn\'t for you.

Blah, Im no footbal guru... I dont know this sport as well as baseball so I cant go all out and play at highest difficulty.
All-Madden isnt the level that Madden 2002 is meant to be played on, actually... Pro is default... so whats that tell ya? ;)

Just because a games default setting is set at a paticular setting, doesn\'t mean thats the way to play it. Default settings are usaully the setting that people use to get used to the game. I can\'t remember any game that I\'ve played that has challenged me using it\'s default setting. I own NCAA Football 2002 it\'s default setting is All-American i think. If I play on that level I can rush for 300 yards and pass for 500 yards. If I play Heisman (which I do) the stats are realistic. All I\'m saying is for me, All-Madden is where it\'s at! I started this thread to find out what setting people normally played, I didn\'t relize it would end up a debate, although it\'s quite humorus finding out that I would run circles around you guys if it were on-line compatible:laughing:
On Devil May Cry the default setting is Very Easy(it doesn\'t auctually start very easy but switches after the first mission) So there is my point exactly.... Do you think DMC was meant to be played on Very Easy Mode??? I don\'t think so.. Back to Madden, I think you guys start a game in All-Madden and are so used to being able to rush a 150 yards every game and trhow for 350-400 and you just don\'t like the fact you can\'t demolish the computer everytime you play them. That\'s just my opinon though, I have no facts to back that up.......

Bring it on tough guy. Just cause you and your big ego play All-Madden doesnt mean jack ****!

run circles around me? O man I can\'t wait till Madden 2003 (probably be online)! Then we\'ll see who runs circles. You know what you\'ll probably be running in circles from my defenders.

 HA! I must of hit a nerve with you guys on that one... Hey it\'s cool, I have no quarles with any of you. I\'m glad to see you won sweettooth, I told you with a little practice All-Madden isn\'t so tuff. Ya, I can\'t wait for on-line Madden, It will be so much fun. Hey my EGO isn\'t the problem bud, it\'s your insecurity of tha computer whooping your ass in All-Madden:laughing: Thats the prob!

K first off, the computer whoopin my ass? it gonna happen. thats not an excuse.
It is your ego.. may I quote you "Ill run circles around you." If thats not an ego I dunno wtf is.

LOL:laughing: Hey call it what you want! It really doesn\'t bother me if you think I have an ego. To tell you the truth, I\'ll take it as a compliment. If me saying that is gonna cause you to be upset then hey, maybe you have some issues you need to address:rolleyes:
-
Heh, relax man. Anyway Yep online Madden is gonna rule. I\'m countin the days...
-
I\'m doing two things at once right now:
A franchise on Pro (I\'m on a 19 game win streak, lol)
And
A season on All Madden and I\'m 9-5 baby!!!
So don\'t jump to conclusions just cuz\' people like to play on Pro. I can easily contend in All Madden I just prefer Pro better cuz\' the game is more explosive.
6 minute quarters...
Most points i scored on All Madden was 24, and two of them were because of turnovers.
Most rush yards by Garrison Hearst= 45 (It\'s friggin\' impossible to break 100)
Most pass yards by Jeff Garcia= 207 (lol, HB Screens...)
So, when this baby does go online, we will see who can claim bragging rights.

Hey cool thanks for sharing.....
Here are my sats for my current season
8 min quarters All-Madden
Bucs 3-11 man it sucks 9 games lost by three points or less....
Best rushing game Warrick Dunn 125 yards on 24 carries
Best Passing game Brad Johnson 337 yards 29-44
Best receiving game Jaquezz Green 227 yards on 6 catches
Best Takling game John Lynch 14 and 5 for a loss
Most sacks Warren Sapp 4 against the Carolina Panthers
Currently in my Season Keyshawn Johnson leads the leauge with 101 receptions for 1749 yards(we going to kill Jerry Rice record for yards in a season) Jaquezz Green is Second with 54 receptions for 1318 yards(he tends to break away alot more than Johnson.) Dunn has 245 carries for 572 yards I\'ve only had that one good game with him.Alstott has 119 carries for 272 yards. John Lynch is 3rd in the leauge with 109 tackels.
That\'s my current season and I am having a blast, Dungy will be fired upon seasons end and we\'ll get a new coach with a new format. I\'ve got great Seniors coming out of NCAA Football 2002 entering the draft so I\'ll be a much stronger team next year with an improved record.
As for me running circles around you guys, don\'t take such offense to that satement peeps. We all know the only way to prove it is to get on-line and play hardnose football. Be patient, the time is getting Oh so close!!!
-
Dang, your a most worthy challenger when this game goes online. :rangry:
Everyone should start a fresh season, on All-madden, using the same team, and we can compare our games and stats and stuff.
That would be kool.
-
My current All Madden season
12-1
Rushing: Dayne 200 yards (rushing is impossible)
Passing: Scott Mathews (someone i picked in the draft) 123.4 QB Rating and 1,432 yards.
Defense: Sucks. It\'s hard as hell to play D on All Madden. Really don\'t know how I\'m doin so good

Well your defense can\'t suck too bad in order to be 12-1.
-
I give up over 41 pts a game and 405 yards passing. Yes it does suck, Thank God my offense and special teams is great (19 returns for TD\'s)

HOLY CRAP!
On All Madden I\'ve never gotten past my 35
-
Yeah, I was lucky. I found a running back in last years draft who had 99 Speed. His Carry rating is kinda low, so he fumbles alot, but when he breaks a tackle or finds a whole, he\'s gone. I still wanna play with Dayne so I put him in in kick return duty for both kickoffs and punts.
-
Dayne returning punts and kicks? Don\'t do that, he\'s way too slow.
I use Vinny Sutherland for my kickoffs and punt returns and he has only 5 TD\'s and that\'s on Pro.
Is Tiki Barber any good at kick returning?
-
No man I was saying that I didn\'t want to replace Dayne as the running back so I put that rookie with 99 speed on kick return duties.

All this football talk makes me wanna go out and buy Madden 2002 and sell 2001.
I do have a few questions for you guys in this thread though.
1)When playing defence what guys do you choose to control both before and or after a throw has been made?
2)Do you use alot of special moves when running like spins or juking or do you just use the D-pad?
3)I have yet to even play 2002 because a couple people said that it was pretty much the same as 2001.... Is it really alot better than 2001 or just a bit better?
4)Finally what kind of defence do you set up? For plays I mean give some scenarios and why you use them.
Thanks for the help, hope to play some of ya online in the future and show me yer chit.

To answer your questions in order
1) Before a pass is made I either control a lineman (depends who\'s my best lineman at the time) and try to get a sack before the pass is made. Sometimes I will control a linebacker if I\'m blitzing him. Once the ball leaves the QB\'s hands I press X to switch to my nearest DB and either deflect the pass or pick it off.
2) I really don\'t use the special moves unless I KNOW they\'re goin to work. For example if a guy falls in front of me I jump.
3) While I did enjoy 2001 I urge you to purchase 2002. Yes the 2002 version is similar to the 2001 version but only for the PSOne. The PS2 Madden 2002 is a way better game (even in EGM\'S Top 100 Games of All-Time list)
4)Well, on 3rd and Short I usually pick 3-4: Double Blitz. For Long downs I usually pick 3-4 and Cover 2 or another play that blitzes my outside linebacker. NEVER use a blitz that includes a DB. Well I don\'t because every time I do I get burned. Usually I play out of 3-4 but alot of people play out of 4-3. You just need to experiment and see what works best for you. Also try throwing in a Dime and Nickel package every once in a while to change up your play calling or else you\'ll become to predictable.
-
1)When playing defence what guys do you choose to control both before and or after a throw has been made?
If it\'s a run play, I control my Linebacker\'s and close any holes that they try to open. If it\'s a pass play I control my nose tackle and try my best to get through. After the ball leaves the QB\'s hands, I immediately switch to the corner who is in the vecinity of where the ball is headed and make sure the ball doesn\'t end up in a WR\'s hands.
2)Do you use alot of special moves when running like spins or juking or do you just use the D-pad?
I juke alot using the top R buttons. I also like to dive if I need the extra yards or the TD right over the pylons. I never spin though cuz\' it brings your runner to a halt and doesn\'t seem to work as well. When I\'m in the open field though I sprint like hell cuz\' it\'s hard to bring down a RB that\'s sprinting full speed with his shoulders\' squared.
3)I have yet to even play 2002 because a couple people said that it was pretty much the same as 2001.... Is it really alot better than 2001 or just a bit better?
Madden 2002 has realistic looking players that don\'t look like dolls. It has a much better special teams and defensive engine so you can\'t just aimlessly throw the ball 75 yards for a TD so easily. Madden 2002 also has newly updated rosters that are up to date. It\'s much better.
4)Finally what kind of defence do you set up? For plays I mean give some scenarios and why you use them.
Depends what the offense\'s situation is. If it\'s 1st and 10 I always go into a Dime defense because it\'s likely that the offense will either run up the gut, or dump off a short pass to their TE. If it\'s 3rd and 10 I\'ll most definately do a Nickel-Man Lock, play which covers anyone coming out of the backfield really well. I love to blitz on second down because it keeps the opposing QB on his toes.
Wow, it\'s unbelievable all the strategy in this game...

I would reply, but my new found friends have pretty much got this covered. I will say this however, GO GET 2002!!!!!!! Cause it rules dude, the cenima replay is SOOOOO TIGHT when you stick somebody, namely the QB....
EDIT: I\'m bored!
1. I use the Bucs so I use Sapp or Brooks before the snap, and sometimes Lynch if I know they are running to the strong side.
2. I use Special moves when it\'s warrented, I always use juke though. It\'s pressure sensitive so once you get the hang of it I use it to make cuts.
3. IMO it\'s 10 times better, alot more small things added, like coaches, better facial features. You can tell when the QB is pissed or when he\'s just made a big play cause he\'ll smile and laugh.
4. I play alot of man and double teams out of 4-3 and nickel. It really just depends on the situation. I pay alot of attention to what formation they are playing out of and call plays accordingly.
-
Worst thing about Madden 2002 is=
John Madden and Pat Summerall
Talk about a boring pair.ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzz

I play on All-Pro. I\'m a foriegner so I\'m still picking everything up about American Football.
My first season I was 4 - 11 (Or something like that. I cant remember exactly)
I picked up a couple of good rookies in the Off-Season and am
3 - 2 in my second season.
Need some advice. Whats the best formations to defend against running plays, and best for passing plays?
And in the stats, whats a pancake and a sack? I know a sack is when you tackle the QB behind the line of scrimmage, but whats a sack for an Offensive Line player?
Once I start kicking arse on I\'m going to change the difficculty to All-Madden because I usually play games on the hardest level

As for advice on running play defense, thats tricky. It really depends on who you use as your team. I defend the run several different ways. I normally play out 0f 4-3 and man my LB\'s. If you use a team with fast LB\'s then blitzthem on the outside, normally that will shut down the sweeps. My best advice is expierament with several plays until you find a few that you know will work.
A sack is a sack, you get the QB it\'s a sack.No matter what positon player gets the QB.
A pancake is when your OL(offensive lineman) pushes his defender on his backside. Meaning he lays him out basicly, giving your RB a hole big enough to drive a truck thru.
-
Alright I looked over everyones responces and they seem like they should help me out so I will go buy this game in the next couple days and get practiced up. Then I can take part in some of your friday Madden challenges and see how I stack up.... (Prob not very good at start though, but thats cool :D )

Running Plays= NO BLITZING. You jack up the blitz, their RB is gone. Use Dime and 4-3 formations, my fav is Dime-Double Wide.
Passing Plays= 3-4 if you wanna put pressure on the QB, and Nickle if you just want to prevent a pass.

I agree on the pass, but I do blitz through 3-4 against the run. Cause sometimes the linebackers can clog up the holes and you can end up stopping em for a loss, but that\'s just me
-
Yeah, you can Blitz and but it\'s a gamble.
If you win= GREAT DEFENSIVE PLAY
If you lose= GREAT OFFENSIVE PLAY
But an aggresive defense is a good one.
-
One crazy ass thing I never do is blitz a DB. Like that one play in 3-4 called "CB Blitz" (i think). I tried that once and the safety that was supposed to pick up the receiver got burned bad.
-
Boy the only way I\'d do a CB Blitz is if I know my LB\'s and Safties are top notch.
I also do it against people I play that suck, i.e. My dad.
-

LOL, yeah, in that case it\'s sort of a win win situation. Cause if he scores off of it, well, you can just come right back and get a quick TD
-
And the fact that my dad never scrambles! He just keeps his QB like a statue, makes for good replays though.
-
Never Scrambles!!! LOL. Man I didn\'t think I would get this into Madden though. I\'ve never had such a long conversation about Madden (or games for that matter). Just goes to show you how good a game it is.

I agree... I have a very aggresive defense. I tend to blitz about 40% of the time. I have success almost every single time. Its all about picking the right blitz for what you think the offence is going to do. I seem to have everything reversed from you guys\' type of football game... You say you usualy use dime formations for a run... I tend to use dime formations for the pass plays.
But hey, thats what works for me... I havent had any problems. Although I change it up constantly during a game.. I dont use one play more then four-five times a game. I tend to use every single play through out the whole game.
As far as blitzing your DB\'s, I have used it a couple times. Once it actually worked... but only because the FB was running that way and it brought up a good loss. Ive also brought in safety blitzes, which then.. turned out to be a disaster. They gained 50+ yards. I love the difference in plays in the game and how each one works for different offenses. Its like a chess game in a way. Its takes stragedy and skill.
-
O yeah, I forgot about Safety Blitzes. Yeah, it\'s basically putting all your coverage on the DB\'s backs. It really hurts when they burn you huh?
-

Yea, specially when it means you losing the game. But those blitz\'s are there for a reason and they do work, just not with a passing offense. They are best for running, specially safety blitz\'s because they sit back and wait for the run and zone in on him and smack em. :) oh yea, gotta love those replays.
-
Yeah but they work well considering that the safety is usually the fastest player on your defense.
I love "Sweet Blitz" under 3-4. Totally pinches the QB hard. But hurts if the QB is able to connect with the RB or TE.
