I just had two wisdom teeth extracted today. Next week I\'m having a root canal, and in another few weeks, I suppose the other two wisdom teeth will be coming out. This is not fun time for me right now, but it\'s not as bad as I expected it to be. For today\'s extractions I had a local anesthetic plus nitrous (laughing gas). Next time I think I\'ll skip the nitrous, because I don\'t think it did anything for me.
The worst part about it was not the novocaine injection, not the yanking things out of my head, not the slight discomfort afterwords... it was the smell. Yes, that burning tooth smell from the drill or whatever it was he was using on me. :( :( :( I got a prescription for some painkiller that\'s labeled with a warning "could be habit forming." Oh yeah that\'s for me. Actually I haven\'t taken any of it yet because there\'s not much pain, and the Ibuprofen seems to be doing alright.
Anyone else have some work done? Tell your sad stories to make me feel better please! :)

Tell your Dentist to use more N2O and less O2
They cut the N2O with O2 but if you tell him it isn\'t helping they\'ll probably give you a better ratio

I\'ve been putting off getting my wisdom teeth out... but I\'ll probably get them out this summer.
I\'m lucky though, my dentist said it\'s totally up to me... He said I have an exceptional mouth... I\'ve always had perfect teeth (straight, no cavities), and even my wisdom teeth have all come in with no pain, and actually fit prefectly, just like another set of molars (I saw the xray). I\'m just going to get em out because they can cause problems much later in life, and if you wait too long, they eventually attach to the bone....

ahh i know your pain
when i got my braces put on i had to get 4 molars taken out - it sucked because for one i hated shots and two i hate dentists
so i had some NO2 also and i had him give me more the usual - it worked fine for me it felt like i was sinking into my chair
anyway so they started to pull the first two out and then wait a few weeks and do the other two - so the first tooth he starts on and about 45 minutes later he still wasnt half way done with that tooth - he said it was being a pain in the ass - well i had to use the restroom despite the blood coming out of my mouth - so he let me go to the restroom - and of course there had to be a mirror - heh i just had to see what was going on in my mouth so i opened it with my fingers - mu lips were numb :p and man that was weird seeing a tough with roots half way in your mouth
well anyway i went back in there sat down and he pulls out a scalpel - i was thinking whats that for - so he starts cutting away my gums around my jaw - after that he busted out this drill and i was watching pieces of bone fly out of my mouth - quite pleasent site i must say - anyway he said i had some freakish extra third root and that it was making things diffcult - anyway it took about an hour and a half for that tooth and then 30 minutes for the next one - talk a pain and my worst complaint is not the smell but the taste of the gauses or cotton that you have to switch out every so often - man when those things hit your tounge you want to puke
well thats my story - the next time i went everything went smoothly - i had one other weird tooth and it was a molar that was a baby tooth that never had a permenant underneath to push it out and what he did was get this hammer and cracked it into pieces and pick it out
crazy huh

Oh man Sublimesjg, that\'s a good story. I feel sorry for you now, which is what I wanted to get my mind off me. I agree that the taste and smell of the gauze is awful.
I also had to have some molars removed prior to my braces waaaay back when. I was a child, so of course they gave me a general anesthetic. I don\'t remember it taking that long for them to get the teeth out back then, but what do I know? I was out cold, so it could have taken five hours for all I know. The two wisdom teeth today only took about 10 minutes total. I was amazed.
Ddaryl, I think I\'m still going to skip the N2O next time. I think the effect of the gas was making me even more nervous than I was before, so they backed off on it. I didn\'t know what to expect, so the feeling of losing control, and maybe not being able to communicate with them if I needed to... that made me nervous. We\'ll see how I feel about it later.

yea the dentist said i had some weird teeth and that they were the hardest he has ever had to pull out
yea see me and the dentist never seem to make it easy for one another - heh thats why i dread the dentist altogehter
but yea those teeth took forever the first time and when you were a kid you probaly was easier to pull out the teeth - i mean if they werent permenant then there wee no roots and it takes no time at all
but im surprised it only took that long with the wisdom teeth - guess im just unlucky

I\'m scared of Dentists...:o

Ohhhh mannn.. this thread brings up HORRIBLE memories.
*has to wait a minute before continuing*
OK, agh... The day I got my wisdom teeth pulled... a couple of freinds and I had been playing Coolboarders2 all night drinking and smokin. Then all of a sudden it was six o clock in the morning. and I had to be at the dentist at 8.
well, I ended up staying up alllllll night drunk and high asa mother.. this is when I was about 14 or so.
I went to the dentist soo messed up in the head, its not funny. Youd think, yea he was somewhat drunk n high, that helped with pain. Sure, it helped with pain, after the novacaine I couldnt feel ****! but see... thats not what bothered me. It was the partially the smell, but beleive it or not.. it was THE VISUALS!
As they were going at it, drilling away the visuals in my head were sickening!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I pictured every single thing in my head as it was going on, half way awake, half way dead, half way totally blitzed to all oblivion, I had to go through this for about an hour and a half. There is absolutly no way I could describe the visuals I had on that morning, But Ill assure you, you dont want to go through something like that in that type of situation. Its hell, its hell I tell you!
Every since that day... EVERY time I go to the dentist I picture EVERYTHING in my head, and the shots! agh! I fricking hate the shots they give. Its not the pain, its the fact that they are puttin a needle in my mouth, through the gums, and injecting a medicine that doesnt even kick in till about five minutes later!
Now beleive it or not, they are saying I have TWELVE cavities! Im like wtf! They are saying that its because I drink soda.. haha. I know soda has acid in it and all that good stuff, but 12 cavaties! Gimme a break, I goto the dentist every six months! So Im gonna go see another dentist and see what he says.
MAN I HATE THE DENTIST!
*takes a shot*

ARGHHHH MEMORIES! HAHAHAHA..
I had braces as well. :D They had to pull out 4 teeth total.. It wasn\'t pretty bad.. They just came right out. My orthrodontist told me that by pulling out those 4 teeth, once my wisdom teeth came out, they would be right in place and there would be no risk of too much decay back there unless you didn\'t take care of your teeth..
Well anyways, finally my wisdom teeth came out and my damn dentist says that we have to pull all of \'em out! WTF!! Dumbass orthro.. haha. So um, 3/4 wisdom teeth are out already. The thing I hate the most is when they pull it.. Damn, that sucks. I just hate the feeling of your head being rocked everywhere and in your mind you can picture your gums being stretched like bubble gum.
The last wisdom tooth is taking a while to come out.. Some of it is out already.. I was supposed to schedule for an appointment like a month after the first 3 were pulled.. But guess what!! My dentist guy who pulled out the teeth DIED!!! LMFAO. Crap, that\'s like so f\'ed up. lololol.. Oh well.. The secretaries there will probably be browsing through my files and decide that I will have to have the last one pulled and they\'ll contact me instead of me contacting them. :D

he died and your laughing? dude thats not cool        :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :fro: :hat: :nerd: :thepimp: :clown: :surprised

LMFAO! the smilies are quite annoying. lmfao fag.
Anyway, yea fear getting your wisdom teeth pulled... it sucks ass. But its better now then later, cause if you wait... its just gets worse when the time comes... and the pain releivers they give you dont even work!
-
I\'m 15 and I can feel mine coming in, they\'re about half-way up. No pain so far.....
-
You should probably get those checked out. Go to the dentist, they are probably ready to be taken out, specially if they came out of the gums already. Trust me, its better now then later. You think its bad reading these posts, if you wait... The pain will double with age.
-
The pain is supposed to be there when they sprout because they are pushing through your gums. That\'s what I experienced. They are supposed to be removed because they are kinda far back and it would be hard to keep them clean and stuff like that..
