Ok, I\'m just trying to lay down and watch a dvd movie on my PS2, well guess what, it brings up "Disk Read Error", so I try another dvd movie, same thing, every single one of my dvd movies brings this up, but then I try a couple dvd disk games and they work fine, can anybody help me?

I\'m not sure I can help you, but check your settings. Also have you played DVD movies in the past? Since you can play games and not movies it probably got something to do with your settings. I will say this though, I had to take back my first PS2(Thank God I purchased th extended warranty) because it would play DVD movies and games but not PS2 format games. For some reason the laser lens went out on it, probably because of dust, but now my PS2 is enclosed in glass so no worries.
-
Welp try cleaning the laser and if that doesn\'t work consider trying this http://www.geocities.com/secretcreator/
butr do so at your own risk
-
I just hope your right because if I have to ship it off and pay for a repair I may go crazy, I can\'t afford to repair it now that I think about it, I have to pay for a car and everything, this is bull****, I went from liking Sony to pissed in one day, damn it

That\'s funny. I love threads about people having broken PS2\'s.
(Gently caresses fully operational PS2)
(Drops it)
(Breaks)
Damn.
-
I was laughing it up too, that is until mine went kaputt, so keep laughing now because your not safe forever, oh and I called sony trouble shooters and of course after he had me do a bunch of **** with the PS2 he dicided I need to send mine in for repair, 115$, hell I\'ll go buy a new dvd player with that money, this is bull****, and does anybody know how long it takes to get the PS2 back once you ship it
-
Seems like to me it\'s a settings problem or something. It just doesn\'t make sense you can play DVD games and not movies. Maybe your DVD movies are scratched, or maybe you accidentally changed something under the settings you didn\'t mean to. I still want to know if you have been able to play movies on it in the past. I have no idea how long it would take to get it back, but I\'d imagine 4-6 weeks. I wouldn\'t send it anywhere until I knew for sure it was absolutely not going to work. It would be cheaper to go buy a 5.99 DVD that you know isn\'t scratched before sending it in for 115$
-
Well when I talked to the Sony guy he had me do stuff in settings and try it and it still didn\'t work, and it was a new dvd movie, just opened, and all the other movies aren\'t scratched, and I have been able to watch dvd movies before, just 2 weeks ago I watched one and it worked just fine, so this makes no sense
-
yeah, i had some major problems with the first ps2 I got
1st they gave us the wrong dvd remote (it was in a bundle) and then it wouldnt play dvd movies
then it wouldnt read a game disk and finally after multiple visits back to the retailer and many angry nights
it finally works without much problem
-
Ya I heard that alot of the earlier PS2 have had problems. I mean I had my first one from the release date and it screwed up(see my previous post) I\'m just curious Bozco, what is the Date code on the back of your PS2??
-
Has anybody heard the Wal-Mart trick, don\'t you take back your PS2 with the box and everything and say its broke and get a new one
-
I doubt that would work, they usually want a receipt when it comes to electronics, but hey I guess it would be worth a shot.
Wal-Mart can be quite gulible at times, I did that with my PSX along time ago and it worked, but they have changed thier return policy since then.
-
Well I\'m willing to try anything right about now, I\'ll try all the big electronic stores, for god sakes let one of them fall for it
-
What you should do is wait till Christmas. Then try taking it back to all the stores and tell them Grandma Thelma from Kalamazoo sent it to you for Christmas and you don\'t have the receipt.:D

good idea, plus most places are so busy returning things, they just want to get you in and out.
-
That really sucks man.
PS2\'s are one dodgee piece of hardware I mean this isn\'t the first time this has happened to people.
-
Nop.. First version had "some" problems..
I have SCPH-30004 V4 and it works great :D
-
Iv\'e had mine since launch here in the UK and iv\'e had no problems at all.

I\'ve got the SCPH-30001, well today I\'m gonna start trying to trade it in places, one of the places has to have a retarded worker that falls for it, if it doesn\'t work today, I\'ll go back right around the 24th
-
Not had any trouble with mine but wondering is it ok to use a standard DVD lens cleaner or is there a nice expensive Sony one?
-
The same thing happened to me, except it would only play dvd movies and games. Not cd games or PSX games so I just sent it out to get fixed and it\'s been fine ever since. But yeah, it\'s expensive
-
is there problems with only the first PS2\'s ? Coz im getting one for xmas so its a new one, should that be alright ?
-
Yours should be alright, only the original versions have been messing up, well mines working now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, I sprung 10 bucks for a laser lens cleaner and now it works, I still don\'t see how the dust prevented dvd movies from playing but not everything else, oh well it works now so I\'m not complaining

YAY!!! :bounce: I\'m so happy for you!!! Dust is the biggest PS2 enemy of them all. The fan draws it in, and with all the breathing slots it\'s easy for it to get in. Like I said before mine was ruined by dust(I\'m pretty sure) so you have to make sure you keep it closed up when it\'s not in use. And clean the lens reguarly.
-
I went from one of the crappiest days I have had in a long time, to one of the best

You should be a-ok, cuz\' most problems seem to occur with the launch systems.
I got one out of the GT2 package. But got Madden 2002 instead of GT2. Thank god :) .
-
Do what I do to prevent that awful dust.....
1. Take a shirt that you never wear anymore...
2. Place the shirt over the sleeping console...
3. Whenever you play a game, take it off, and when done put it back on.
4. Dust your room! lol...
There.... I\'ve had a shirt over mine since I got mine and I haven\'t gotten any problems.... Oh and the fan of the console still has that fresh smell... you know the plastic smell...
BTW - I got mine when I registered here....
USE MY METHOD... I already told Bladez about it... and made him do it... his console is now dust free..:)
-
That\'s a kool idea!
I\'m gonna make a custom shirt!
It\'ll be sweet.
-
Time to pull out some old shirt, no more dust for me, I can\'t handle the stress of thinking its broke, oh and I just watched Proof of Life, I suggest everyone go rent it, its really good
-
I found this old white cotton-padded t-shirt. I got a blue marker and wrote, "PS2\'s Favorite Shirt" on it.
It\'s kool as hell. I wanna get it some pants too. Anyone know where I can find some pants for it?
I\'m not being sarcastic.

I think some of you are misunderstanding... I didn\'t mean put the ps2 inside the shirt.... just cover it....
You don\'t need to dress it tard..:D
-
Yeah I know to cover the dust, and believe me Vegas is the dustiest city in the world.
But you want your PS2 to be stylin\' as well.
-
I have a Jap Ps2 model 10000 unlucky for me being in the UK.There is no where to send it for repair not worth it(Brought it used anyway). But mine has a similiar problem. My machine can see DVD films no problem it just seems to have problems seeing PS2 DVD games.Either Sonys DVD game pressing plant is not producing DVDs to the correct spec or the machine has just been setup from the factory incorrectly.I am just Lucky that after a couple of resets in will play DVD games.
I have found that if i put a DVD disk(film) in while in the browser and then change it to a DVD game disk this seems to reduce the problem. As if it doesnt have to re-focus on the disk.As if its set at the right focus from the film. This might help some other Unlucky Ps2 owners.
Give it a try
