Here\'s a quote:
Nintendo will enjoy the best selling U.S. holiday season in its 17-year history.
Holy crap! I hope they can recover. Games rated E are obviously not the way to go.
Here\'s the rest of the article...
REDMOND, Wash.--Dec. 14, 2001--Nintendo:
-- Total North American shipments of NINTENDO GAMECUBE(TM) have now reached 1.1 million, with more than 800,000 sold through in the U.S., Canada and Latin America markets.
-- While retailers report out-of-stock situations everyday, Nintendo is shipping more than 100,000 NINTENDO GAMECUBE units every week to replenish supplies.
-- Due to the overwhelming success of the North American launch, Nintendo Co., Ltd. in Japan has announced an increase in NINTENDO GAMECUBE production.
-- Super Smash Brothers Melee(TM) has reached sales of more than a quarter of a million units in just nine days in the U.S....making it, by far, the fastest selling game for any new console launched this year.
-- Total NINTENDO GAMECUBE titles available will reach 21 by calendar year end, and 37 by fiscal year end.
-- The top selling video game system across all platforms in November was Nintendo\'s portable Game Boy(R) Advance. It sold through 20 percent more units than any video game console.
-- In November, U.S. sales of all Nintendo systems (NINTENDO GAMECUBE, Nintendo(R) 64, Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Color) nearly equaled the combined sales of all systems from all other manufacturers.
-- Nintendo will enjoy the best selling U.S. holiday season in its 17-year history.
-- The video game industry overall is hotter than ever, with total 2001 retail revenues now on track to exceed $8 billion for the first time ever (+19% vs. 2000).

Nintendo is riding the bull**** train once again
GT3 sold more than SSBM
i\'ve had it with them
-
They keep saying lies about how their system is so great so then people might buy it. I can\'t stand Nintendo anymore. Then they say that they always sell better than PS2\'s games and faster.
-
It\'s all in how they word it. You have to read it very carefully.

See? Fastest selling game, for any new console launched this year. The PS2 was released last year. GT3 does not qualify with their comments then. :) If nothing else, Nintendo is very clever.

Microsoft and Sony never lied about how great their systems were to get people to buy it?
Nintendo may have sold SSB:M faster or whatever but I want to see sales of GT3. Lets not just assume that because it was GT3 it sold billions of copies in a day.
If nothing else Nintendo is very clever indeed.
-
That is very clever. The normal idiot like me wouldn\'t notice that ;)
-
They must have a very well rounded marketing team. :)

I agree, they are clever, but they also have a way with words.
-
damn you EIk, you fooled me for a second with yer title there
im not buying a GC untill im forced to play the next RE game
-
Just get a friend who has the GC.
It\'s hype is now at a still murmur now. I don\'t hear anyone talking about GC anymore. It was a "week" thing.

That\'s because those of us who own them are too busy playing them to be bothered.
Nah, I\'m just kidding. The hype has definitely died down. For everything, really. The holiday rush is pretty much over; it\'s back to cruise control.
i\'ve had it with them
I know, I hate when companies issue sales press releases, too.

What lies might those be? That the games are 3.5 inch discs? That there\'s four player support? That it offers many exclusive first and second party titles? Damn Nintendo and all these shady marketing schemes!
Seriously, you guys need to relax.

It\'s cool you like your GC Eik. I\'m happy for you, and I hope you enjoy playing it\'s games. The only thing I don\'t understand is why you defend it. Now if your on Nintendo\'s payroll I can understand it, but if your not, why defend a console?
I mean I like PS2, but I could really care less if someone says it sucks. I\'m happy with it. Screw what everyone else thinks. Until Sony starts cutting me a check I really don\'t care what\'s said about it.

Yeah but if they continue this any further they will soon say.
The Gamecube is the "Greatest" Next Gen Console with the name nintendo on it ;)

Maybe because he\'s defending his purchase. I mean, if someone said my car sucks ass and it\'s a piece of crap, I would defend it.. But I think it really depends on who you are. I\'m just like you.. I don\'t give a crap if they say my PS2 sucks. :)

nah, Eik\'s always been a nintendo crusader and fought the good fight. he knows his shiznit!
i used to take up arms right by his side, but over the years, my bitterness for nintendo become uncontrollable
now i dont care for any console company except sega, and since they are soon to be the console whore, i might not like any
doesnt mean i wont play thier product :)

Gives me something to talk about...
I dont think of it as defending, just offering my opinions.
If you want to talk about something else, I wrote a few Taliban jokes in the other forum. ;]

Thanks Living, I had forgotten that. Auctually I was just wondering, it\'s no biggie to me what console any of you like. Obviously you have to be happy if your willing to fork out the money for any console. And I\'m glad he\'s happy. :)

People get uptite about defending their system cuz\' they\'re like, "Okay, I spent 300 dollars on this baby better not say anything!" It\'s like making fun of their system is making fun of the buyer\'s choice, and thus some people take it personally.
Sad, really.

I have the money to buy all three systems, but the problem is that Nintendo is lying and doing a Sony and making up numbers.
I guess its all just about lying now, forget any truth anymore, its just lie, make up numbers and make up anything when it comes to video games and then get your userbase to believe it.
I am not upset about anything, I just want the lying to stop. Nintendo can lie about anything they want, who is going to stop them from lying? The answer is nobody and Nintendo fans believe Nintendo\'s word like its the word of God and they are very simple minded people if they believe that.

Just replace the word Nintendo with Microsoft and we have a perfect discription of you. Double standards are beautiful and it\'s my job to point them out until AlteredBeast gets back from his Shenmue II binge.

It isn\'t how many consoles THEY sell this year, it is how many consoles the other guys sell! They found out the hard way how to fight a good system with good financial backing (PSX) now fight TWO of them who have little to lose and alot to gain.
