I bought a Dreamcast, and now that I actually have one in my hands (with Crazy taxi and TimeStalkers), I\'m quite surprised that It\'s not in competition with next-gen consoles. It\'s a really good system, way ahead of its time. Maybe that\'s it, the world just wasn\'t ready, and now that it is, Sega throws in the towel.
Alright Altered, time for your told-ya-so.

yeah, the DC never got the support it deserved

Actually, I think it was Sega who wasn\'t ready. ;]

It\'s a shame how quickly some people are forgetting that the Dreamcast was even around. I\'ve heard plenty of bytching and moaning about how none of the consoles this generation are online yet. (Xbox might as well not be for those who only have 56k) Yet for 50 dollars, they can pick up some of the best games availalble in the this generation so far.. and many of them have at least some online aspects if not fully playable over the net.
Trog, if you happen to get PSO or QuakeIII let me know. I don\'t play Q]|[ all that often, but I\'m on PSO almost every night and me and some friends can hook ya up with some good stuff to get you started.

Totally right mm i loved my DC soooo much, the games were always fun, i couldn\'t believe the first time i saw Sonic adventure running on my DC.
I just wish that they were making a DC 2 that would be cool.
Have you got shenmue 2 yet? if yes how is it?
Also if the series get continued on the xbox will you get an xbox so you can still play shenmue?
-
WOW! I want one.. But like I said, they are nonexistent here. lol
-
I\'ve considered many, many times buying one, mostly (only, really), for PSO, since PSII was my all-time favorite game. But they\'re hard to find here, and with FFX coming in today, I think my rpg needs will be satisfied for a while at least. :)
If I ever get one, what are the must haves? PSO? Shenmue? Timestalkers?

Maybe you should have did it 2 years ago.

Yeah, but ironically, you\'ll be buying plenty of Sega games for your PS2. Fairweather fans...

directxbox, I have never touched a sega system since their are unavailable here in holland. Sega closed their office here long ago and ****ed us, the dutch gamers. Its basically their own stupid fault. Sega had killed it here for itself. DC was dead on arrival
I didn\'t know much about sega untill they launched their DC is US. Before that I saw them as a 2nd rate console developer.
Im sorry but is sega\'s own stupid fault

ironically you will also on your all-so-perfect system....

doesn\'t it cost as much as the game boy advance now, or something like that?? maybe i use my pocket change to buy one :D
-
It costs half as much as the GameBoy Advance. 50 dollars for the console, and usually anywhere from 5 - 40 dollars per game dependin on how new it is and where you get it from. VMU\'s have dropped about 10 bux as well, and controllers cost less too but I\'m not sure how much.
You could probably buy an identical setup to mine for less than the cost of a PS2. (1DC, 3 controllers, 6 VMU\'s, Keyboard, 11 games, and VGA adaptor)

Well, Metal_Gear_Ray, I think I have to correct you on this one.
My days as a \'videogameconsole\' player started with the Sega
Mastersystem II back in 1990 I believe, or was it 1989 ( I only played PC games before that).
Anyways, Sega was very aggressive in advertising back then, yeah even in little ol\' Holland. Remember the Sega Mastersystem 1 tv commercial ? The black/red console ? It\'s userbase grew and it became a big opponent of Nintendo\'s succesfull NES. Ha, I remeber when ppl paid 400 DFL for a NES duck hunt pack ! Anyway, I bought my Mastersystem II when Sega was already promoting the Megadrive (that\'s the Genesis for Americans) and the superhit \'Sonic the HedgeHog\'. So... actually Sega was kinda the \'Sony- like\' opposition for Nintendo back in those days. In my opinion Sega wasn\'t a 2nd rate console maker, certainly not. And it was really a good opposition at that. Somehow I chose the Megadrive over the SNES and it was only in the later stage of their lifecycles that the SNES caught up with the Megadrive. I believe it happened when the SNES got Street Fighter II. That\'s when the tables turned, albeit slightly. Sega was still hot.
But after some time, console land started to slow down. Nintendo went on fairly steady with the SNES. Then Sega introduced the Megadrive II and the 32X add on + Mega CD drive for it. From there on, things went down for Sega. Some lackluster times passed even more.
Sony came along with the PSX. Sega tried to fire up good ol times
again with the Saturn... and we all know what happened since...
So my conclusion is that Sega in Benelux was a BIG succes until the Megadrive II (which was actually just the Megadrive in another casing with addon conections, kinda like a PSone.)
A friend of mine has a DC and I play sometimes. Nowadays you can notice it\'s graphically getting a bit old (lower polycounts and stuff like that) compared to 2nd gen PS2, XBOX and NGC games, but the visual quality of DC is still very good. From the ppl I know,
DC was not dead on arrival. It was friggin hot. Demand was too high because the distributer Atoll Soft underestimated it. Because of that ppl eventually gave up and the DC died in Holland. I think it was just a bad pick by Sega to let Atoll Soft do the DC promoting/distributing job. Just read the PU and see Dutch ppl love DC because it\'s good for a fairly cheap price.
If I had money enough, I \'d ran out now and buy a GBA with Sonic
when that\'s released ! Damn, I would also like to play Alex Kidd again.

If the DC had gotten the support it deserved, it would\'ve sucked. It was so good because it recieved such a small amount of support.

DC is definitly a sweet system... I love my PS2, but when it comes to fighting games, I grab my DC controler... I have yet to see a game on any console that comes close to Soul Calibur on the DC.
