Post by: GmanJoe on December 19, 2001, 11:44:37 AM
Are they not an inhouse developing team under Sony or what? 2nd party developer like Rare is to Nintendo?

They are first party 100% owned by SCEI but they do their own production work like Sugar&Rockets, Arc Entertainment, and Contrail do. Digital Polyphony was SCEJ\'s first inhouse team, Software Development Div #1. They are the Japanese equivalent to SCEE\'s Team Soho (NBA Shootout \'97, Porsche Challenge, Rapid Racer, This is Football, The Getaway).

Most of Sony\'s teams are not externally known by name. For example, ICO was done by SCEI Product Development Dept #3.

edit: Also, Kazunori\'s group did some of the earliest PSX 3D demos and libraries that impressed Namco so much that they commited to porting Ridge Racer and designing a polygonal fighter based on System 11 (Tekken).

The Nishis, my friend, are equivelant to a Sony Insider. They are not only mathematical geniuses, they also know martial arts and drive BMW M3 and ~know~ how to drive them with skill. They play video games too. :D

BTW, a Nishi sighting is like seeing the Loch Ness monster sun bathing on the banks of that Irish lake. Now....make a wish.

:)

BTW, they are not newbies. They are like gaming gods that lurk. Becareful what you say to me, I could call upon them like Ifrit and flame yo ass. :D

Indeed Gman. We are ever watchful. ;)

In actuality, it is more a matter of whether network admin Aika allows us to browse forums during work hours. And it is her and Kimi that drive BMW M3\'s.

Plenty of 1st party games to look forward to next year. Be on the lookout with regard to SCEI. SCEE, on the other hand, is a mess.  :(

Thanks Nishi! This information will be copied and posted for someone who heard a rumor that Microsoft would buy out Polyphony. :D

This ought to break his heart.
