Im having a prob trying to get sound with the Optical cable. Do I have to connect the RCA jacks with the AC-3 (optical) cable or can i just use the AC-3 (optical) by itself. When i used it by itself i didn\'t get any sound. If anyone uses the Optical cable can you tell me how to set it up . Thanks.
-
Plug in the optical cable by itself and you should be all set. All I use is the optical cable..
I have heard of people having trouble, but I never did. Plug and play...! :D
-
i have it hooked up to a minisystem, do you think that could be the problem or do i have some kind of setting wrong in the ps2?
-
99% of the time you need to change the input type on the receiver to point to Optical instead of RCA. Some do this automatically but most do not.
I don\'t know if this will solve your issue but figured I would try to help.

Most DVD-Players have the optical output switched off as a default setting. I am pretty sure that the PS2 also has the ability to switch the output off, so either check the dvd-settings or consult your manual.
Hope that helps. ;)

I think i found out the problem. In the back of my AIWA minisystem, it says Optical OUT. I think it should say Optical IN. maybe thats why i have no sound?

LOL. If that doesnt work then try to put optical "on" in the PS2 systemconfig.

Which AIWA minisystem do you have? The one I\'m gettting for X-mas has an optical digital Input.

I have the Aiwa NC-22A. It is a few years old (built 1997). I think the newer ones have Optical In but you have to make sure.
-
Boot your PS2 and double-check you have Optical output turned ON
-
Heh, I\'m almost positive that Aiwa doesn\'t have optical IN. I have a 1998 Aiwa and it only has optical out, so you can use the cd player as a transport for an outboard decoder.
Besides, they didn\'t start making Home Theater Receivers with optical inputs until late 1997 when DVD players came out. And mini-systems definitely did not get optical inputs in 1997.
Just use your analog stereo rca cables. :clown:

Well, I\'m sure mine has an input(NCX-DS50) because I checked it out at the store and it says so right on the box(i sneaked a peek:D ).

I just brought a TV with S-video/Component plugins.
And i purchased the monster cables. Do I need anything else to hook mym Ps2 up to the TV.?
-
Nope, just hook the cables up and play.
-
Which of the monster cables go into the Ps2?
-
You guys are Great! I asked one of my buds and said its quite logical really, PS2 has Optical Out so I would need Optical IN to make it work right. Since the Aiwa has only Op Out (for MP3 players and minidisc systems), basically two outs don\'t make any sound. :-) Surprising how many of us have Aiwa Minis, too bad we didn\'t think we needed the fizzin Op IN when we bought them.
-
I did my research and the AIWA(NSX-Ds50) was the only mini system that had an optical in in my price range. So, some of us thought of it. :D

if you bought the S-video monster cables for the PS2 you shoud be set...it has the S-video cable and 2 audio cables with it, the Component cables on the other hand only have video (yes those 3 cables are all for video) so you need an optical cable to a stereo or some sort of sound source before it goes to the tv....unless the TV has optical In (havent seen many of them yet). I would go with S-video Monster cables.....I believe their 30 bucks USD (US Dollars) they are the best cables around...........
