That\'s the first I\'d heard of it. Can someone confirm that?
-
I don\'t know...
but it would be smart of Square.
-
Well, I heard it\'s mainly coz they want to expand their online population. but with Sony owning 19% of Square\'s stock(with Sony to buy more) I kinda have doubts about that.
-
mmh, I thought that it was already confirmed that this would be multiconsole... just FFXI. Well, guess I was wrong... ;)
-
I am starting to think that this was just another rumor. I don\'t think Square ever had plans of releasing this multiconsole, even before Sony bought a huge part of them. The reason I think this is because FFXI is coming out in a few months in Japan. If this game was multi-console, then the NGC and Xbox versions would have been about 75% complete when Sony bought Square. It just doesn\'t make sense that they would throw out all that work.
And I doubt that the NGC and Xbox versions are being secretively developed. With the launch only a few months away, it would be stupid not to even announce that the NGC and Xbox were getting the game.
I think it would be better if Square did go multi-platform with this game though. It would make the game a lot more enjoyable with more people, and it would help Square make some profit on this online thing.

I dont think so..

It would make a lot more business sense for Square\'s \'Play online\' gameplan to release the game for multi-consoles, so that they could build an online population for the game , not to mention be one of the first to release a game online in all area\'s that lets each console play with the other.
Does that mean it will happen? I severely doubt it at this point.
Which reminds me - what ever happened to Capcom\'s big top secert project that was going to come out for every console and let them play against each other? I\'m sure someone else remembers them making this announcement way back last summer..

Well, Square has officially stated that they are "looking into other prospects for Final Fantasy XI." and that they "require as many poeple to have PlayOnline for it to be succesful"
That being siad it is assumed that they had were atleast talking with other companies. This was first started a while back when Square was tlaking with nintendo about releasing games for the GBA. Since Nintendo siad not so politly that they would never see a square game on thier system. Square quit negotiations.
Thus leaves X-Box, which has what final fantasy requires. A hard drive and internet access. It was assumed that if Square wanted as many poeple as possible to have playonline that they would release it for the X-box.
The above is fact.
I believe that Square will not release it on another system because they plan to only release FFXI not XII. And since all of Squares future games would interact with PlayOnline in some way I find it doubtfull it would go anywehere but the Playstation 2 and PC. So with Sony\'s recently bought shares in mind I don\'t think square will develope it for another system.
