yeap it happened again, for the "3rd" time my ps has stoped reading disks completly... I am starting to get impatient, my first one stoped reading disk so i sent it in and paid 120.00 bucks for them to "clean my dusty lens" then 3 months later it happened again, so i took it to my work and traded it in for a brand new ps2, and now about 1-2 months later it craps out! my work doesn\'t have anymore ps2\'s so i have to wait till we get some in before I can get my new one... THIS SUCKS...

Loads of people are getting this problem and its getting fixed by buying a CD/DVD lens cleaner, why dont you try that

1) Go to Walmart and buy a new PS2
2) Take it home
3) Take your PS2 and switch it with the other one
4) Peel the Serial Number sticker off each of them and put on the other(they may check serial numbers)
5) Put old one in the new box
5) Return to the store for a refund
If you switch the serial number stickers there is really no way of telling which PS2 is in the box. Good Luck!

You dont ? My Uncle does that aswell , I dont know what Im gonna do with mine coz my room gets well dusty

well i have a disk cleaner and it doesn\'t even load that!.... man this blows,just when ff is out my ps2 dies...

Mine started not to read blue disc only and I just used DVD-CD lens cleaner and it works 100% now. Every PS2 will have this problem because the dusts gets on the lens. Sony have to put some type of shield or something on the lens unit.

this dusty lens thing is truly getting out of control, we all need to send sony an e-mail and tell them that they have to do something with the ps2\'s lenses.

Im in the same situation with a broken PS2.
Switching, Disc Cleaning, Trading etc.
Hows this for a suggestion...

Get your PS2 changed..
I got a 2 year waranty on my PS2..
The new version here is called SCPH-30005..
It wont cost you anything.. Just have your shop send it to Sony and they will send you a new one.. (Thats how it is here anyways)
Will take about 2-3 weeks..

Using DVD/CD cleaners wont always work. Sometimes, the its ir-reversible. Like my ONE DVD, its doesnt play it... nothing I do will fix it. So Im gonna try and try taking it back to Kmart or do the ol switch at wal-mart.

Its a little harder than that unfortunatly. For starters I got the PS2 from a catalogue. Even if I didn\'t however it would be up to the shop in question if they wanted to give me a new model from their stock. The warrentee I got with mine just means Sony gives you the option of reparing the PS2 or getting a reconditioned model which I did and it worked even worse. So you can see why I am pissed off. Im currently waiting for the next reconditioned delevery because they didn\'t even show up last time.

I guess you were just unlucky when you got that new console and it didnt work. :(

Yeah least with a store the store clerk might give you a new console.
I acted like a kid at the time and got caught up in the hype. The catalogue was the only place which had a PS2 for sale, everywhere else was out of stock.
My PS2 worked fine until recently so I don\'t think it was a faulty PS2 when I got it. It seems its just Sony\'s shoddy hardware which made it degrade. The new models don\'t seem to do this.

it\'s ok guys, I got my new ps2 last night.
I work for K Mart so it\'s not a problem for me to get a new one whenever I want, im gonna start cleaning my room more often "vacuming and dusting" my first PS2 lasted me a year, and my second only a month and a half, this one better last.
I have been trying to think up a way to stop the dust particles from entering the PS2, like a screen but it would over heat the ps2 if not enough ar gets through...
scph 30005!? neve heard of that one, i wanted scph 30001r so i dont have to have that damn 3,000kb save on my mem card just to make the dvd controller work.

Hey guys I have a serious question for you guys. I was doing some christmas shopping and then I remembered the disc read error screen on my Playstation and you guys said that a CD/DVD lens cleaner should fix that right up. The first guy I talked to said that it might work and that it wouldn\'t harm the PS2. The second guy said it might work but there is a good chance of it hurting the PS2. My question is can this disc hurt my PS2?

Im not 100% sure but I don\'t think the disc cleaning unit will harm the PS2. Surely they wouldn\'t make a device which actually harmed the PS2 would they? My advice is make sure you get a PS2 disc cleaner and not a standard CD player disc cleaner. Dunno why but it makes it a better bet that it won\'t do harm.
