Yep, thats right. Kmart, Australia\'s largest department store, and largest toy stockist (and official SONY PS2 stockist) will not be stocking the XBOX as of its release in March in Australia.
This has not been officially confirmed, but I can tell you now that I have sources within the store saying that there is an agreement with SONY to stock the XBOX.
Looks like another Dreamcast scenario (Kmart didn\'t support DC and it died within 8 months of release).

well, ive always said XBOX would fail here...but...just because K-Mart doesnt stock it doesnt mean much...it\'ll fail for other reasons (despite their being adds every commercial break on television)
its odd...with all the commercials for XBOX ive seen, they havent once told anyone what the XBOX is...i have friends actually ask me what the XBOX is and what it does...interesting (i love you)

Yeah.
The reason I say that its screwed because Kmart isnt stocking it is simply because Kmart sells the most videogame stock of any store in Australia. They have (most the times) the lowest prices, and have the buying power to get surplus stock.
If Kmart doesnt sell it, then other retailers will probably follow (like Myer and David Jones as with DC).
Its a shame...

so why would they shoot off a potential money tree ?
You can\'t avoid other stores selling XBOX\'s. The XBOX
is a good machine. Outcome : Buyers will notice and
abandon Kmart for it - Kmart screwed...itself.
That\'s how business works.

No, not really. I mean, Kmart invested alot into becoming the Official Playstation Headquaters, and I don\'t think they are going to risk that for Microsoft.
Kmart is a massive retail chain in Australia, and they have some mega deals with Sony Computer Entertainment Australia. I think they know what their doing.

I can\'t see it being the end of the X-Box in Australia but a step towards helping that. Nothing too significant though.

Knotter8 I\'m inclined to agree with you on this one, b/c if K-Mart won\'t sell Xboxes then someone else will. One person\'s short sightedness is always someone else\'s opportunity. If this is true, and Xbox makes a big splash in Austraila, K-Mart will be kicking itself in the a** for not coming aboard.

K-Mart in the states is like for stereotyped for rednecks. People wouldn\'t be caught dead buying clothes there or something. :laughing:
Here on Guam, K-Mart is like in Australia.. People appreciate it and don\'t tease it.... :laughing:

No no no, you\'ve got it wrong. I have been to Kmart in USA, and they are really crappy, their clothes are like...
Kmart in Australia is different. It is owned by a different company, different logo, and much better image.
What is your opinion of Macy\'s? Our version of Macy\'s is called Myer and our version of Walmart is called Big W.

Thats why we got Wipeout Fusion first ;)
two months ahead of Europe, and probably at least 6 months ahead of the US.
Yes, Australia is just so small and insignificant... Thats why we get big AAA games first...

I talk to bobby hardware and gradman 24/7 when they\'re on and they are my best friends on the net. they both live in the Brisbane/Melbourne area and we always talk about how Australia and Europe gets horribly ****ed on release dates.
but hey man...if your happy with the release dates Australia gets then great.

that was a stupid move from them, xbox sells good. In some cases better than GC.
And knotter, do you think that xbox is going to sell here in holland, they made the same blunder like sony did with the ps2 launch, selling it for 1099 guilders. I wonder if stored like bart smit are going to carry the system, since they didn\'t with the DC I fear for the worst

I read the PU report on the XBOX presentation in
Amsterdam and PU was positive about. They were
surprised by the sceptical attitude from others on
XBOX.
So imo it\'s 2fold ; the Dutch press loves it, but XBOX
is maybe \'ver van m\'n bed show\' for the average Jan Lul.
I know some hardcore PC gamers, where I live. They keep
on saying how XBOX kicks PS2\'s ass all the time, but when
puntje comes to paaltje they say they\'re stickin\' with their
PC ! How\'s that for a double standard ? LOL
The other thing ; Bart Smit, Dixons, hey maybe even Intertoys
will have XBOX\'s, imo. The DC affair was all about Atoll Soft
screwing up. It wasn\'t Sega\'s personal fault, they just picked
bad in choosing their DC distributer. Anyways if you wanna
read my thoughts on Sega in Holland, read my last reply in
Troglodyte\'s thread "I finally did it..."
But my personal opinion is that the Gamecube will do better in the
Netherlands, just because Holland is N land and it\'ll be cheapo at
599 DFL (or somethin like that - I don\'t know it in Euro\'s ).

I agree with you about Europe . We do have late release dates, but not only that.... we also get often worse games. Many games is 50hz, some are not even the complete version of the game (Latest game that happened to was TWB, with no story line and some gameplay elements gone). The European Playstation market have always been BAD.
The DC was a LOT better, we got the games the way they should be. Even though the release dates was later there too.
Now, Im considering to buy an NTSC PS2.

There\'s always Toys R Us. There a bigger TOY seller then KMart. Kmart deal alot more in clothing.

well it wont fail but they better get those exclusive titles cranking because titles like mgs final fantsay silent hill gt3 grand theft auto the ps 2 is killing the soft ware wars x box will be a sucess but it needs the soft ware right now owning a x box is like ownining a ferari with no gas its pretty but dam it aint no fun

I\'d like to check into this further, but I have a feeling that this sort of decision by a major retailer (to exclude a particular product because that product\'s competitor signed an agreement/contract with the retailer) would be illegal in the United States. I think it\'s the agreement/contract that would classify this as restraint of trade. The retailer would probably be free to make business decisions regarding what products they sell, but when they make an exclusivity agreement with one manufacturer, that might get into a restraint of trade area.
Perhaps the laws in Australia are much different on these matters. You can bet that if there\'s any avenue available to Microsoft, they will have no hesitation in resolving this issue in the courts.

You can shoot me for saying this but I think Kmart SHOULD stock the Xbox, Sony can\'t have it all to themselves. Now I\'m just as much on Sony\'s side as I have ever been, but to have Kmart deny Sony the chance for a challenging competition is just plain commercial suicide.
